Old Camera

So these are some shots of an old 1964 camera I got for my birthday, way back when. It's broken, but I'm hoping to get it repaired soon. As it is, I still adore it, just cause I love the way it looks. And old things make me happy.

When people look at pictures they often focus on the image itself and not the camera. In these pictures you have to focus on a camera.
They also make you wonder: If I'm looking at the camera... then where are these pictures coming from? You have to stop and think. Good Job.

These are really great. Exposed Soul is totally right about the Where are the pictures are coming from idea. Anyways, awesome job on the pictures.

Wow, these are great! My favorite one is the first one. Which camera did you use to actually take the pictures? I have never tried this before, although I love to take a picture of myself taking a picture in a mirror. Though most of the time the flash gets in the way *laugh*.

My goodness! What a birthday present!

1) Beautiful. As another reviewer said, taking pictures of a camera in an artistic way is sheer brilliance. And this is a wonderful picture, very old feeling, and makes me very, very happy.

2) Hm. This is not your best of the bunch, although I really like the concept. I would try to retake this shot with straighter edges, because this one is crooked. It is very distracting. I do enjoy all of the texture, though.

3) *sigh* Oldness. Another great one. Everything I said for #1 applies here.

Hey Coral! I apologize for getting to this so late.

First of all, I think it's a wonderful idea that you took a set of pictures on an old camera. I like how you do your photos in sets, all theme based. It's better than having random pictures and it's (at times) slightly more professional. Now, I won't really go into depth here because these are great pictures and quite simple so there's really not much to comment on but I'll see what I can pull out of my hat.

1. I like the name of this picture, really goes well but if you planned on making it 'dust' themed then I would suggested bringing out the dust a little more, or capture some more of it because it seems like it's cut off a bit.

2. Not much to say about this one. I like the tone of color but the picture is slanted. I don't know whether that was intentional or not but it catches my attention and I keep thinking about how it's slanted rather than admiring the work.

3. and 4. These are nice picture of the gears? I don't know what they're called but it's neat. So...not much to say...

5. There is not point to this picture. If I look at it without the name it's a bit boring and has nothing that stands out. If you want to focus on the edges, I think you should pull on attention it so it sort of forces the eyes on it. I could take a picture of the floor and call it tiles but it's still just a boring old picture of some tiles until I focus on some point of interest. The design, the dirt, the dust or something else.

Anyway, you did mighty well and your pictures are always great! I only wish I possessed some great photography skills but my pictures are only of weird bugs or grass and water-scapes. Not very interesting.

I love old things too, so these photos are quite lovely to look at for me
1. I love the exquisite details on this one, and the really nice, artistic angle. Nice processing in B&W too!
2. I actually think this one's my favourite! Apart from the slight slant (which you'll easily be able to fix in some photo editor), it's got so much going for it. Nicely off centred, lovely antique tones, a really interesting focal point. Brilliant job!
3. I'm not sure I like the tones in this one, it makes me think the WB is a little off, but I love the angle, and the details of the wear and tear.
4. Probably my second favourite. Nice tones, great angle, lovely focusing.
5. Not sure if B&W works for this one, and I don't like the crop ratio, but it has some nice focusing, so good job on that.

Overall: Great technical ability, nice processing. A few, easy to fix mini flaws.

It has an old fashion feel to it I very much enjoy.

"My Collection of Dust"

This is a nice shot. There are a couple things that bother me though:



#1 circled part is a fault of editing. Many similar colours, and are flattened out in editing. You have to be careful when editing, because even a touch to much of it can flatten out your picture.

#2 and #3 have to do with your focus. Your focus is rather odd, and I think the editing gives the impression of a smaller focus point. So it looks odd, I would of tried more of a macro shot with as much of the side of the camera in focus.


"Textures and Words"



The shot is a beautiful macro shot. And the texture is fantastic. But I feel with the angle ruins the picture because it creates some strange cut off points. Specifically at the top, it's a weird line. And with the screw. I recommend you A - Edit it straight, B- Next time be a little more aware of your lines.

"Some Wear and Tear"

I have no technical complaints whatsoever on this shot. However it's a boring shot. The angle isn't interesting and the colours dull out the shot. So it's not as successful as the other two.

"Notched"

By far my favourite. It's beautiful.

"Edges"



This is also, kind of boring in the colours but it's a nice shot.

#1 again, a fault of editing. It's flattened. And contributes to the boring colours, because it's a chunk of black. It's not pretty.

#2, blurry, maybe expanding your focus slightly would contribute to making this another really good macro shot.
