I started to walk toward the bathroom. “Be fast!” she hollered.
I rolled my eyes and walked out of my room. It was still pitch black outside! I looked through the window. Yup, still about three am.
I dragged my feet to the bathroom. Once I turned the lights on I shut my eyes. The light burned.
I opened them and saw my horribly tired reflection.
My eyes couldn’t stop closing so I splashed my face with really cold water. I looked again and saw my beautiful face spring back with color.
I brushed my teeth and did what I had to do.
Once I stepped out of the Purple and Gold bathroom it was dark again. My eyes tried to focus in the darkness once I reached my bedroom.
When I opened the door I only saw Trevor. I didn’t want him to see me change!
“Where’s Cassandra?” I asked.
“Flying,” he pointed above my head.
I looked up a saw a little brown dressed fairy fly above my head.
“Ah!” was my automatic reaction.
She started to laugh like a chipmunk.
Then some sparkled tornado formed around her and she came back to normal human size.
“You can change fast you know,” she said still laughing.
“Uh, how?” I was still very tired.
“Just use your powers!”
Trevor put on a sly grin showing his dimples. My stomach flipped.
“How…?” I asked.
“Simple, think of a rhyme that incorporates clothes,” She said simply.
A rhyme? How hard can that be?
I thought for a couple of minutes and came up with nothing.
Trevor stood up and came up to me. He pulled out a stick from his pocket and pointed it at me.
“Get her dressed in the best,” he yawned.
I saw sparkles form around me then Poof; I was wearing something completely different.
“How did you-,” he cut me off.
“Magic,”
I was wearing some baggy jeans with a pink sweat shirt that had a radio printed on it. My favorite converse were on my feet. I had a sling on bag on my shoulder.
“Good, you’re ready let’s go!” Cassandra cherred.
My mind was still not processing anything. When am I gonna wake up? Is this a dream?
My opened yellow wardrobe closed shut without anyone actually closing it. Cassandra took a hold of my hand and held Trevor’s as well.
“Whelen, Kolandra.” She said.
The same tornado sparkles formed around us as I closed my eyes. I did not wanna see this –okay maybe I did. I was just afraid.
I felt my feet get off the ground as we flew away.
***
I scanned the area we landed at. It was beautiful.
Little houses were down on a narrow street in many different colors. The road was cracked up like the streets in old Europe. People walked down the street with their talking pets.
Talking pets?
Was I even awake yet?
My jaw dropped when a cute little Dalmatian dog came up to us and said “Oh, good day Cassandra. Who’s your friend?”
I hit my head as hard as I could and pinched myself. The pain flew up my body and stung my arm.
“Ow,” I yelled from pain.
I was definitely awake. You don’t feel pain when you’re asleep.
“She likes hurting herself,” the Dalmatian questioned.
“No, she just doesn’t believe that this is real.” Cassandra laughed.
Trevor started to chuckle and I gave him a glare.
“Oh, this is very real,” the Dalmatian told me.
“Is this another girl Trevor met in the mortal world?”
Cassandra continued laughing and whispered something into the Dalmatian’s ear.
She breathed deeply when Cassandra pulled away.
“No,” she couldn’t believe whatever she said.
Cassandra simply nodded.
“Oh my, welcome Beta –I’m Fran.” Fran said.
“Hi,” I replied.
What was I to this town?
Trevor tapped me on the shoulder and I turned around.
“What…?” I asked.
He pulled me to the side near a black and white spotted house. I’m guessing it’s Fran’s.
“Do you wanna leave, I’d be so happy to let you go. We do not need you.” He said coldly.
Cassandra must have brought me here for something. After seeing Fran’s reaction, I must be important.
“No, I don’t,” I lied.
I still wanted to go home. I barely knew what the heck this was!
“Cassandra brought me here for a reason Trevor,” I replied as coldly as he did.
At the same time, Trevor was pissing me off. He really didn’t want me here and that’s why I wanted to stay, to see his reaction.
Some fury blew in between us as we walked back.
Cassandra pulled me closer and held my by the waist.
“Let’s go,” she waved to Fran.
Fran waved back as we walked down the street. People passed by us sucked into their own little world. As we walked down the road got smaller and darker.
I started to shiver.
“Don’t worry! We’re headed to school.” Cassandra tried to comfort me.
That made me shiver even more. I don’t like school at al.
Her feet stopped clicking against the rocky streets. I looked around for her but she disappeared!
“She’s right here.” Trevor said.
He pointed to her; she was in tiny fairy form.
I laid my hand on my chest and breathed deeply.
“Thank God,” I said with relief running down my body.
Hold up, why are we headed to school?
“Trevor, why are we going to school?” I asked.
“To learn, why else do we go to school for?” he asked right back.
“God, jeez, I know that! But why am I going, I mean I already have a school.” I explained dumb shot.
He snickered to himself with his mom in his hands.
The sun shone through the maple trees behind him as I blinked.
“This is a wizard school; you gotta learn how to use magic before you actually use it.”
“How hard can it be?” I joked.
“Very,” he replied dryly.
He led me to a huge castle. It was on the end of the street with a walkway leading toward it. Trees shaped the walkway as we walked down it. The castle came closer and closer showing its gray colors.
The windows were arched and the building looked about fifty stories tall.
“Wow,” I blurted out.
“That’s what I thought when I first saw it.”
Trevor took a glimpse at me and looked away.
As we got closer I could hear laughter, talking, walking, and fighting.
The castle was sparkling from the sun’s gleam. I saw people through the windows.
We walked up to a huge brown wooden door. It was arched and had a big dragon faced doorknob.
Trevor just pushed the door and we stepped onto some titled floors.
“Where are we?”
“School,” he said simply.
“I would love to go to this kind of school.” I said in awe.
My eyes scanned the whole place as we walked onto another platform. It was rock solid and it floated us to another door. It was arched as well. Many students were floating on them as well hanging out with their friends. I held onto a bar that popped out from the platform. The wind around me was pushing onto my back. I held on more tighter once we got to the door.
It opened once Trevor said “Holouisis Aweune,” whatever that meant.
The interior was more beautiful inside. Candle lit chandeliers hung from the ceiling that was like five hundred feet from the ground. Paintings and old posters hung on the rocky walls.
The candle’s gave the castle a warm feeling.
Once we stepped into the room the door shut behind us.
“Where’s your mom?” I asked Trevor.
“Here,” he pointed to his jean pocket.
“Why?”
He came closer to me and whispered into my ear.
“Because in this school fairies aren’t aloud.”
Still confused I asked again “Why?”
“There was this huge war between them that the fairies’ started. As history says, it ended but the fairies didn’t believe it. Now the fairy’s don’t accept anyone that is a wizard.” He explained.
“But your dad?”
He hesitated and looked around for anyone.
“My mom went against it, so no one knows who my mom actually is,”
I nodded showing that I understood now.
He smiled and led me through the room.
It must have been a classroom. There was a huge blackboard at the front of the room. The walls were covered in curtains of red and black and gold. All the desks were for two people each desk. They were as well wooden. When I looked down the flooring was wooden.
“Nice room,” I said.
Trevor nodded.
Someone blasted through the door and my head bolted at it.
“Professor Gregorian, good day.” Trevor greeted.
“Good day Trevor,” she greeted as well.
She was about in her fifties gray hair in a bun and black cloak running down from her neck to her feet. Her eyes were hidden behind huge round glasses.
“Mrs. Whetherton,” she nodded toward me.
“Hi,” I said.
How did she know me?
She walked up to me and smiled. Crow’s feet were around her eyes.
“You don’t know me, I’m the Spells teacher in Jagase School of Wizardry and Magic.” She explained.
“How do you know me?” I asked.
“Oh, you’re Beta Whetherton. You’re the only wizard that’s half mortal. Your parents took you away from this world.” She explained.
My heart skipped a beat. Why would they do that? This school is beautiful! No, that’s not why I wanted them to tell me. I’m a wizard; how could they hide that from me? It’s important. What if the magic came to me out of nowhere? What would they say, it’s a sickness? Stage of teenage life?
“How can I be half mortal if both parents are wizards?” I asked curiously.
“Well, your mom is a wizard, you dad is a mortal.” She said.
