I have just come back from seeing the 7th Harry Potter fiasco, and I can't believe how bad it was (I always knew it was going to be bad, but then there's bad and there's HP7).
Here are 20 reasons it is the 2nd worst (yes I am saying the 5th may have been better) movie:
1. It doesn't feel like Harry Potter anymore, there are no robes, no wizard-isms (or very few), and almost no use of magic except for the odd stupify.
2. THERE IS NO INVISIBLILTY CLOAK
3. All the characters except for Harry, Hermione and Ron have become secondary. And all of them without exception have been reduced to one base emotion
4. The action scenes are too short and not intense at all.
5. THE DANCING SCENE BETWEEN HARRY AND HERMIONE
6. The hallows and horcruxes are less than subplots and there is nothing to drive the plot as a result. The whole thing feels like random progression from one pointless event to the next with no ultimate goal.
7.The CG is poor and hardly used.
8. Voldemort's role is greatly diminished, along with the snatchers, the death eaters and the ministry. The wizarding world does not feel threatening (note the scene with the snatchers, there is no tension there at all).
9. The mirror and Bill and Fleur turn up as an afterthought.
10. Greyback is barely mentioned and not a threat.
11. The nasty characters are too nice (Scrimjaw/Aunty Muriel)
12. Bellatrix BITES Hermione instead of using crussio (more proof that the magic has been taken out of it)
13. Harry has no major choice to make, because there is NO PLOT.
14. There is no reason given for the curse at Grimmauld Place.
15. The script is full of REALLY BAD one-liners (eg: Nevil: "Oy Loosers! He's not here" Harry to Hermione: "Well it's not good enough" Minister to Harry: "You cannot do this alone")
16. Speaking Voldemort's name carries no weight.
17. The removal of really important scenes like the fight with Lupin and leaving the Dursley's in favour of scenes like Harry and Hermione dancing.
18. No mention of Dumbledoor's past
19. Or what is happening in the wider wizarding world (and if the list of deaths is really supposed to be a link then it's a VERY bad one)
20. The feeling of: "It's a dying franchise so lets milk it as much as we can without spending that much"
The 7th movie is the final nail in Harry Potter's coffin (which by now is more nails than coffin), HP no longer feels like HP anymore.
RIP Harry Potter movies (particularly HP5, Twilight Wizard's Version (HP6), and pathetic finally) I can't say I'll miss you. I'm glad to be (almost) rid of you.
