Chapter 11: Haunting Memories

Everything I’m seeing is a blur of colours. I’m going so fast I think I might vomit. I finally stop and realize I’ve only been going in circles around the house. I’ve barely broke a sweat but then I realize it’s raining. I go around back through the trail and after a few turns and I end up at the lake.
This was the first place I met Roge. I sat down on a log and tried to calm myself down. I laugh thinking of all the times I’ve sat here and just thought.
Tears begin to stream down my face and I can’t hold it in anymore. I find myself asking why I keep crying all the time it’s not me it’s not even Tess. I was immune to tears and emotions for hundreds of years.
I kicked the ground and threw a rock furious with myself that’s when I looked up and made out her silhouette through my blurry eyes. I opened my arms and she came towards me crying and I hugged her, stroking her hair.
She sat on my lap and looked me in the eyes and I knew.
“I’ve known all along. I knew about Robert, Roge, Star, everything. Mom why didn’t you tell me?”
“You are way to young but I knew you were special ever since you were born. I knew some how you would figure out my past but I just dismissed it because I didn’t want you to know what I did.” She hugged me smiling, I laugh she was always being so happy and positive.
She kissed my cheek and ran off as Roge came into view. He smiled at her but she looked up at him with her big eyes then he fell to his knees and she slapped him. He winced and she skipped away with a big grin on her face as if she had just won the lottery. He stood up rubbing his cheek where she had hit him.
“Feisty, just like her mother,” He said then sat down next to me, I could feel the energy around him, his thoughts and emotions I could sense clearly now.
“Powerful and beautiful.” I nodded smiling at the thought of my daughter she was amazing in many ways.
“What do you want?”
“You, I’ve been looking for you ever since the last time we met in what 1804? It’s been 206 years and I’ve finally found you to find out all of this.” I look at him blushing remembering what had happened when he found me last time.
He caught the slight pink in my cheeks and laughed.
“You still haven’t decided to change yet?”
“No I like my skin, it stands out against my hair and eyes.”
He nodded
“Just because after two hundred years any Invisible can tan doesn’t mean we all have to.” He turned towards me my eyes reaching his, unable to pull away as always. I had seen our fate many times, I knew we were supposed to be together but instead I chose someone else over him all the time, which broke his heart.
He leaned in closer now whispering.
“You still see it don’t know.” I swallowed knowing what he was talking about. I nodded slowly my eyes never leaving him. I leaned in closer our auras melting together. This always happened when we were together, our energies sparkling as they made contact.
He leaned in closer and our lips touched, there was a spark of surprise and then a warm sensation. They called us soul mates, all of the others when we lived in France in 1709, three hundred and nine years ago. The images running through our minds were so bright and clear it was as if it was just yesterday.
The memories of us filled both our minds, all the times together in France, Italy, Spain and many times here at this house. I pulled away remembering Star, he ran this fingers through his hair and stood up.
“All you can do is think of him. The one who scared you and almost tore your heart from your chest. Even though you know we were meant to be together.” He slammed his fist into the closest tree, the tree cracked under pressure creating a long line in the bark.
I cringed remembering his temper, I stood up standing behind him with my hand on his shoulder.
“I do think of him because we have a daughter and I haven’t forgotten that I still have the scar. That was Star in a different life. I have attacks all the time now ever since I met up with Robert again then watched him die. You remember him right, your son? My son? He knew, he called me mom right before he died. Do you know what that feels like? No, no you don’t!
“He said he would meet me again. What is that supposed to mean? Do you know how much time I think about him? How many times I re-live watching him die over and over again, no!” I fell to my knees in tears now, I had watched my own son die I didn’t want to admit it though.
Roge fell to his knees hugging me whispering into my ear as he stroked my hair and rubbed the middle of my back.
“I know, I think about him all the time. I didn’t want to give him up but he could not know who his parents were. I watched him grow up. I was his teacher for four grades. I did everything to be close to him.” Over the years I had four children. Three with Roge and one with Star. I hugged him back wetting his white v-neck t-shirt. I laughed wiping away my tears.
I stood up and walked back to the house. Jess and Angel played out in the front yard as Star watched them from the deck. I sat down beside him but he just kept on watching them. He finally looked over at me taking all the dirt, mud and tear stains on my clothes. He hugged me, kissing the base of my neck and I felt guilty not telling him the truth about anything. Roge turned the corner and introduced himself as a guy named Blake.
We all hurried inside Star keeping distance from Roge.
“So Blake you’re an old friend of Idda’s.”
“I’ve known her for along time.” Star nodded protectively putting his arm around my waist pulling me closer. I could not help but grin at Roge as I saw him suck in a breath. Angel ran in and hugged my leg. She looked up and stuck her tongue out at Roge staring him in the eyes.
When Jess came in they broke their stare and they looked up to see Jess was covered in mud from head to toe.
“Go have a shower.” Jess shrugged at me then walked off towards the bathroom. There was a sudden tension in the room so I got up and walked into the bedroom.
Before I could blink Star was sitting in the chair his eyebrows raised and hand under his chin looking at me.
“So this whole act of you not keeping a secret from me is not working for you at all. So what is it, who is he?”
“No one he’s just an old friend that’s all.” He caught my arm and turned me to look at him, he’s eyes searching in my mine for answers.
I tried to pull my gaze away, I try to step back but he had too much of a grip on my arm and I could feel the sting as blood was drawn. Star suddenly sensed it and let go staring at my arm in shock. He tried to talk but it just came out as a mumble then he was gone. I closed my eyes then opened them to see the whole room completely different, the colours had changed and I could sense the heat and energy around me.
I stumbled forgetting how long it had been since I had used this gift. I turned around to see no one in the room except some one was at the door, I squinted and I realized whom it was. I sighed and ran my hand through my hair.
“Well it’s been a long time since you used that. How long Tess?”
“My name is Idda not Tess, I left that life behind after the wars. After I thought you were dead but instead I find you here. A long time to answer your question, I have to go find Star so please move.”
He stood there still as a post for what seemed like hours before he finally stepped aside. I ran out the front down staggering down the steps trying to see, I had not used this vision in quite a while so I was still getting used to it. I finally found him on the upper level of the barn, I climbed up nearly falling over six times.
When I finally reached the top I squinted and felt my way to where he was sitting. His hair was tousled and his clothes were covered in straw as I looked up his purple eyes searching for answers.
“Who are you Idda?”
“I tried to forget her but I can’t, then he comes and it’s all brought back the emotions, the memories everything.” I looked around lips clenched holding back tears “The dreams, Robert, my house they all bring them back, the memories I’ve tried to hide, the ones I thought I left behind. How could this have happened so fast?”
Star came over wrapping his arms around me and I placed my head against his chest.
“I want the truth.” I shook my head motioning no
“Even if it will hurt me I just want to know who you are. What you are?” I pulled back enough to look him in the eyes.
This was harder than I thought because I didn’t know what to say to him. How was I going to be able to tell him?

Chapter 12: The Truth

“I am who I said I was and no I’ve been an Invisible for awhile but no I didn’t lie about Idda she is just another one of me. She’s like another personality, the safer one, and the calmer one. She’s the one who holds the secret.” I swallowed hard my body tensing up as he let go and hit a wall. I tried to follow him as he shifted in and out of invisibility but my eyes ended just rolling in circles.
I staggered back until he finally realized my eyes had changed, I kept looking at the ceiling but my eyes would pull back to Star, my throat was tightening and I remembered this feeling. It happened every time I lost grip of my gifts, this was the most horrible part.
My eyes changed back to their original colour and I could see the normal colours. I stood up throwing Star back he only staggered but I could feel Tessa coming out in me.
“No!” I screamed, “Yes, you should have done it so many years back! You blood bonded your self to kill him, ceremony and everything!” I spat the words out I was feeling the anger that was building up inside of me.
I had moved in a quick step, Star finally realized I had moved when I struck his shoulder hearing something break. Star sucked in a deep breath and cursed, I struck his knee then there were hands around my wrists and they were pulled behind my back in an X formation and pulled high.
I struggled trying to flip the person over my back only to have someone speak to me.
“I wouldn’t Tessa, remember I’m the only one who is stronger than you.” My stomach churned and I was kicked down on my knees to have my wrists tied around my ankles in the tightest and unbreakable knot.
When I tried to move it only got tighter, I rolled my shoulders swinging my hair back over my shoulder. Roge helped Star up and checked out his knee and shoulder. Roge told Star he’d be all right and that it would heal in a few minutes, Star looked up at me like I was a freak.
“So you really are Tessa?”
“That’s not my name anymore!” I screamed “Why Roge, why did you stop me? I swore to you I would kill him.” Roge shook his head and sighed, I didn’t even realize I had spoken his name out loud.
Star’s eyes got as wide as saucers. His mouth opened so wide it looked like his jaw would snap. He looked up at Roge in amazement. Roge cursed scratching his neck, he looked up at me and gave me one of his ‘thanks a lot’ looks.
I shrugged then motioned towards the knot, he shrugged and opened up his mind.
You know that was absolutely stupid, look at him he’s like a sick little puppy looking at a treat. This is why I disguise myself, I hate it when people do this.” He said the last part out loud.
I rolled my eyes, and flipped my hair over my shoulder again.
“Yeah you do the same but you are known for your killings so people are afraid of you.” Star puffed out his chest and I struggled in the knot and he quickly slid down more into the hay bale he was sitting on.
I shot him an aggravated look and ran my tongue over my teeth, being a third vampire you still got the teeth and the thirst for blood. I had not fed in so long but Invisibles didn’t get weak from not having it but it was a major power boost if you did. I felt like you were high on some kind of drugs. Roge and I used to feed then kill our targets, you didn’t feel as guilty as you killed them.
Star was still in shock when Roge finally untied my wrists.
“Thanks.”
“Try to keep her under control before you do any serious damage to some. Now if you were actually going to kill him please let me be there.” I smiled but when Roge looked up and his face went serious I knew something was wrong.
“What, what’s wrong?”
“Hurry up and grab all your things. Your friends are coming.” I swore under my breath then went to find Angel. We all hurried and got our things and climbed in the car.
“Go to Toronto first. I’ll meet you there.” I nodded and started the car up. Everyone was silent as I sped through the back trails to avoid being caught. My phone began to ring and it was Ray.
She explained that these big black vans pulled up and these big men were surrounding her house with guns. She had already gotten her children down to the basement and was hurrying down herself.
I told her not to tell them where I was or that she knew me. I told her to crawl on the floor until she got to the basement then lock the door. She did what I asked then hung up.
I hoped she would not get hurt because of me. I had enough guilt already I didn’t need anymore.

Chapter 13:

As we drove into Toronto I was dropped off a block away from one of the addresses while the rest of them went to another one. Roge said he would deal with the oldest one, Robby. One of the three kids lived in an alley. Her name was Jessica. The file said she had short flaxen blonde hair and light green eyes. She was six but looked sixteen.
I looked around then stepped into the alley. A blonde girl was asleep under a cardboard box. I went over and touched her shoulder. She awoke with a start and stood up quickly.
“Don’t worry I’m a good guy.”
“Are you an Invisible?”
I was surprised she knew about us.
“Yes, my name is Tessa.”
“You mean as in Tessa and Roge. My mom used to tell me about you two before she was murdered last year. She said you were the only one who actually drank Roge’s blood. She said that your father was one of the first created and your mother was from a long line of witches although most didn’t practice but the gene was still there. She said you were extremely powerful.” I nodded and smiled holding out my hand. She took it and I led her out of the alley. That was a lot earier than I expected. I thought she would need more proof but then I remembered she was six years old, she was still a baby.
We all meet back up with the kids at a motel. Roge had rented three rooms for us all. As much as he wanted I stayed in a room with Star, Jess and Angel. Then Roge had his own room in case I wanted to stay with him then the new kids had their own.
We were all huddled in Roge’s room when Roge and Robby came in. Robby was eighteen. He had gray eyes and chestnut brown hair. He looked to be around twenty-three. He had bad acne and a retainer.
Star, Jess and Angel had found the fourteen year old girl Rebecca. Rebecca was a petit girl with tight black hair in ringlets. She had blue eyes and pale skin. She was covered in freckles and was extremely shy except she only talked to Star.
Robby came over and sat down next to me.
“Hey, so I’m the oldest here which means I make the decisions.”
“Actually sorry to stomp on your ego kid but I got a few hundred years on you.” His brow furrowed and his eyes went into slits as I got up and walked out the door going to find a sweater.
I searched through my bag to find a note at the bottom. It was the note my father had given my mother to give to me. I sighed and sat down on my bed.
The letter was over three hundred years old. The parchment was yellow and smelled bad. The ink was perfect though.
I looked down at the letter and read out loud.

Dear my daughter Tessa,
By the time you get this letter, I will be gone. When I fell in love with your mother I didn’t realize that my ‘problem’ could be carried on but I figured that out soon enough. Your mother had no problem with you being an Invisible.
Having been given blood by Roge you will be one of the strongest. Having drank Roge’s blood you will have amazing gifts but I can’t be there to see them because it’s forbidden in this time. Maybe as you grow older and the times change, hopefully you will get to be with your children and live a happy life.
I am so sorry that I have to leave. It’s the hardest thing I will probably have to do in my immortal lifetime. I will hopefully be able to send your mother letters, if I remember, and she has promised to send me photos.
I want you to know that I love you and I hope you do great things.
Your Father.

I sat there on the bed crying. I knew now why I had never met my father. I knew what he went through when he had to give up a child. Roge and I had to give up Robert at the time because we were wanted dead at the time. They would have killed Robert too if they had known about him.
I rolled up the paper and put it in my bag. I cleaned myself up then went and got everyone and said we were going out for dinner on a hunt.
One word to say to you
One world to live onto
One person that makes you spin
One song you'll always sing
Show me the way <3

I know where the wall goes.
