Chapter 8: New Friends
“My name is Ray come on in.We’ve been expecting you for a while now.” She said smiling and rushing us into the front room. Star tensed up as she touched his shoulder but relaxed quickly knowing she was harmless. Her family looked up with wide eyes and smiles on their faces that looked like they were a bomb about to explode.
The husband Bob got up and shook our hands smiling and hugging us.
“These are my children.” The children stood up all in age order. “This is Mia, Marie, Millie, Andrew and Melissa.” She said all their ages after their names still in order from oldest to youngest. Jess carried Angel over to the couch where just as he set her down she woke up and joined Melissa who was also three.
We introduced ourselves.
Star followed me into my old room they had kept it the same since I left. I sat down on my bed pulling the blue and purple quilt, the one my mother had given to me when I was five, over my legs.
Star came in and sat down next to me and put his arm around my waist pulling me into a hug. I look out the big paneled glass window and shiver remembering this is where I sat the last time I was here, the few minutes before my life changed. I sat there thinking.
Star though something and made me jump, he re-though it so I could hear it again.
My mother said that I would sit in a blank bedroom and look out a large window and see the snow fall like raindrops. I turned to him smiling and rested my head against his shoulder staring out the window.
Ray called us out for dinner and we sat their watching them eat, she asked us many times if we would like anything but we just shook our heads no. When everyone was done eating we all sat on the couches, my family on one side hers on the other silently.
“So how did you know about us?”
“Your mother of course, she told me about this prophecy which I can not tell you.” I nodded understanding, my mother would tell people things about my future but I could never know.
When she was finished talking I found I was completely exhausted, Ray saw me yawn then Angel rubbed her eyes. She told her children to go make the beds in my old room and they got up and hurried off along with Ray.
“Thank you so much Bob, it is so kind of you to let us stay here so a few days while figuring out plans.”
“It’s no problem at all really we have been expecting you for a long time. After you were taken away your mother sold the house to us and told us all this stuff. She told us that her daughter would be back and would find her once again. So we have been waiting for a long time.” I nodded then Ray called us back.
Two cots were made on the floor and Angel and Jess jumped quickly to the floor doing a front flip and landing with a puff on the beds. Rae left us turning off the lights in the other rooms, a candle was flickering lightly as Angel and Jess fell asleep softly.
Star stood up after pulling the covers over Angel and grabbed one of the extra blankets and I looked up.
“I’ll go out and sleep on the couch ok?” I raised my eyebrows and grinned, he looked back with suspicion.
“You don’t have to sleep on the couch when this bed fits two.” I put my hand under my chin and fluttered my eyelashes. “You’re just going to leave me here alone with the kids?” I could see him eyes light up. I rolled my eyes and patted the empty space next to me.
He rolled his eyes and threw the blanket back over where he got it and pulled off his shirt. I smirked and rolled my eyes.
“So this is what you’ve been working on at the gym.” Looking at his gorgeous body, he smirked back and crawled under the covers.
Star fell asleep quickly and I lay awake thinking about Star. I didn’t like to lie to him.
Chapter 9: An Angel
I awoke lying in a hay bale in a barn. I stood up and looked around warily. The barn looked somewhat out of focus and the horses seemed to not know I was there.
I looked down at what I was wearing to find I was wearing light blue flare jeans with a rip in the left knee and the bottom of the left fraying. A light blue tank top that barely fit me was covered by an old grey sweater that was too short for me at the ends. I groaned I hated these clothes. Familiar country music played in the back of the barn. I used to love this song, but now I couldn’t even remember the name of the song or singer.
I headed for the door, running towards it when I saw him. I could feel the power that flowed off him. His eyes locked with mine making me stop. I feel like a little kid staring up a mountain of chocolate. I fell to my knees staring at him, I whisper softly.
“Roge.” He nodded silently then walked so gracefully over to me and held his hand out. I took it and he helped me up I felt as if an angel was touching me.
He looked so perfect with his clothes completely smooth with no lines or creases even when he moved. His eyes like honey they are so amber and golden. His hair was the colour of golden silk, it fell to his shoulder in many wavy layers. He was taller than Star and his skin was a colour so tanned he looked like an Egyptian king or an angel coming to take you to Heaven.
His thoughts were open to me but it was if you were trying to listen to music on the radio and you can’t tune in because you are too far away. That’s what his thoughts sounded like.
He took my hand and spun me around. He pulled me close and we danced around the barn to the music. His eyes always locked to mine as if he couldn’t look away.
“You know I knew a girl a long time ago just like you. She was beautiful, fearless, graceful and amazing. Then she left and she turned soft on us all. She hide in a new identify. She was afraid of the people who used to be afraid of her.”
I smiled faintly and looked away, putting my head on his chest.
“Is it who I think it is? He nod smiling and laughing,
“So why did you bring me here in this?” I looked down at my clothes as we danced. His eyes lighting up, he smiled.
“I didn’t bring you here, you brought me. I’m still out there and you will soon meet me. I’ll do some things that I’m going to regret but it will open up your eyes.” I nodded “When I knew you, you were so careless but look at you now you have a daughter.”
He tensed up when he said it then slowed down almost to a complete stop.
“I need to realize there were more possibilities than being with you Roge.
“Good-bye Tessa.”
“The name is Idda and no don’t leave. He suddenly backed up and disappeared into the blinding white light.
“NO! Roge!” I screamed and fell to my knees. I just sat there for a few minutes crying then I looked up at the ceiling and screamed.
“ROGE!”
Chapter 10: Old Friends
I bolted up in bed screaming Roge’s name while Star stood in the doorway looking pretty pissed off. Rushing out of bed and getting changed I rushed after him. I was right behind him in a second before I realized where we were.
We stood in the middle of a barn, the same one in my dream. I tensed up, sharply with my eyes opened wide. My breathing picked up so fast I don’t even know if I was breathing. Star looked at me eyebrow raised then I turned around to see a boy my age enter the barn in black dress pants and honey eyes. His hair was like honey to his shoulders.
He smiled and I lost my balance. I landed in a hay pile and was up in a second. I ran and jumped, tackling him. The smirk wiped off his face as I stared deep in his eyes, pining him to the ground. The next second, I’m being dragged off him by Star yelling at me. I turn around and knocked him out with one swift kick to his stomach. He lay on the ground moaning barely moving he was in so much pain.
I stood up and the new boy stood up holding his hands up in the air as if he is surrendering.
“So I guess you recognize me. I knew I should not have gone to seen you last night but I haven’t seen you in so long.” He said stepping forwards tucking a strand of fallen hair behind my ear.
I pushed his hand away only to have him looking at my palm.
“You always did have this birthmark, the one on your palm exactly in the middle. Do you remember who gave it to you? Him right there, that guy who caused you so much pain Star. Do you remember that Tess?” I nodded looking down he pushed my chin up with his index finger.
I looked away and he walked out of the barn after swiftly kissing me, his lips leaving a cold sensation on mine as they always had. Star stood up gawking at me, I turned around giving him a stare.
“That was the guy from the vision, the one with Robert. Holy shit.” I nodded
“Tess as in Tessa the most powerful mind reader and fighter in all of the Invisibles history? How could you not tell me? I thought you said you knew nothing about the Invisibles.” I nodded looking away he comes up and pulls my shoulder back and I turned around now furious.
“You wanted the truth didn’t you. I told you, you would find out soon enough. Yeah this is my past.”
He backs up carefully as I walked towards him with a grace that looks so dangerous yet beautiful.
“I lied, and yes as in the one who killed thousands just to be with Roge. Only to have him die in her arms but he didn’t die no he roams the world trying to find me now. A simple coffin and we pull the stake out of his heart. Bury him and he wakes up healed, new as ever. Yes that Tessa. Star now looked frightened like I was actually going to hurt him. At this point I was thinking about it.
“I’ve lived longer than fifteen years Star, I’m four hundred and fifteen I just acted being fifteen so I could get closer to you. I was supposed to kill you because you cursed me because you made me have a mark so demonic I vowed to Roge I’d kill you. But I fell in love with you every time only to have you die over and over again by someone else.”
“Who is he then the one you just kissed, eh?” I could feel him getting more jealous by the moment.
“He’s a very old friend.” He nodded I knew he felt jealous about something.
“Are you serious about being Tessa.” I shook my head no lying. “So you’re not really Tessa?” I shook my head no again, I was glad he did not notice I was lying through my teeth. He walked out and I decided to go for a run. I ran so fast I was just a blur. It was something I had perfected over the last four hundred and fifteen years. I guess I should start over.
I lied but it was to protect my family. My name has changed many times but the one that comes back to haunt me is Tess also known as Tessa.
I’m one of the first Invisibles born, one of the most powerful mind readers and fighters. Being one of the first Invisibles born means you get some unusual gifts that only you and a few others will have for a long time. I made myself forget that girl over and over but how do you forget when you re-live killing them over and over in your horrid dreams, you can’t I can’t.
I created new identities after about thirty years then I would create my life story and come back and live in my house. How I lived I never really understood no body did except for him, so my name is Tess Morris.
I’m one of the most powerful Invisibles and I’m four hundred and fifteen, I have finally crossed paths with my old life and it can only get worse from here on.
