Leaves...

I have not posted on here in FOREVER so here are some recent photographs. Critiques or simple comments would be greatly appreciated.

First of all, I have no idea why I just used a colored font there. It was completely unnecessary. And that doesn’t matter. hehe.
I both love and hate this first picture. I’ll say that I love, more than I hate. The thing about it is that, the left bottom of the leaf is so terribly blurry in comparison to the rest of the leaf which I loved for popping off the of the page with such power and clarity.

There are two little things you could have done that would have made this a billion times better. Firstly, cutting off just that itsy bitsy corner of the street sign, to me, seems to unbalance it. Go big or go home!! Secondly, and this is something you probably couldn’t have changed when taking the picture but whatever that is on the ‘York’ sign has a way of drawing the eye to it. I suppose there would have been some way to edit it out of there. Or washing it off??
But I do love the colors in this image. They grab my attention and they feel warm.

And I just love macro shots. I have no qualms with this picture at all. *claps*

But with this picture, I do have a bit of an issue and that has to do with contrast. The shadows are too shadowy and the light is too bright. And that makes taking in the image at all very difficult to do. To add to that, I can’t really figure out what I’m supposed to be looking at in this picture. If it’s the baby, that’s sweet and all but I can hardly see her under the shadow of the trees.


I’m not sure if you’re working with digital or film, but I’m going to guess digital. And I don’t know if you’ve edited or enhanced these in any way but if you have, remember not to overdo it. Yeah, I know that adding more contrast and less light is cool and all (I have a bad habit of doing it myself) but for the people viewing the pictures, the same might not ring true. There are plenty of programs available online or for download (GIMP being my own editing love child) that are free. Not only that but using it to put your teachers head on a weight-lifters body is the most fun ever. No lie!

First picture: I don't really like this one. It's too busy to really capture the focus point, who's the leaf in the middle. I was practically lost in a swirl of oranges, yellows and browns when I first say this picture. I would recommend you crop it so the borders come right by the edge of the leaf, on the left side. And that you do the same for the right side, brigiging it right at the border of the second leaf. This should help.

Second picture: I have to agree with Lily, and say that the corner is kind of debalancing the picture. I know, it's just a corner, but trust me, if it the sign would be full, it would be perfect. Not that it's ugly the way it is. I really like the colors and the contrast with the signs and the leaves.

Third picture: This one is definitly my favorite. I love the colors, and the light that's streaming through... Absolutly gorgeous. And I'm not sure, but it looks like you drew hearts on it? That's cute.

Fourth picture: Last but not least, I like this picture too. But the building that's on the right side of the picture bothers mee a little bit. The rest though is awesome. The light, the shadows, the trees...

Oh my god! Autumn! You just made my f**king day! We don't have trees where I live and we surely don't get any changing colors in leaves. The colors and quality are awesome! Glad to hear you back and posting. The second and third photos are my favorites.

I loved these pictures! I do enjoy looking at autumn-themed photos, they really are beautiful. Yours were not exceptions!
I loved the lighting and the colours, and the way you caught those things on camera is breathtaking. The way the sun shines through the leaves *sighs sentimentally*

Thanks every one! The first picture I am not sure I LOVE either, but I wasnt sure what was bugging me about it. I think that it is how busy all the other leaves make it. I loved getting all the critiques and compliments. And yes I drew hearts on the leaf.

1. So this is a little too dark to really allow the colors to bloom. I love the DOF, but the focal point is so small, that it doesn't really seem enough for the eye. I adore the bokeh and potential colors you have though.

2.Excellent shot! I do kind of wish that the crop included the whole sign, but there's not much you can do about that. Bummer.

3. Great concept, though the hearts felt a little too staged for me, and I think that the focus could have been a bit neater. Also, the blue corner is a little distracting. Wonderful colors though, and again, I love the concept.

4. This shot is a little to vague for me- it's kind of too dark, and I'd personally like a better focal point. Nice job otherwise.

The colouring is amazing and the way you captured the light is beautifully done. Makes me really smile.
I really love the second and third one mainly, the hearts on the third is a nice touch!

Ok here it goes.

#1. I enjoyed, but i am a huge fan of this type of photo. I do wish that the focus had been a bit more dramatic. and there was some clash of colors, it is all very uniform.

#2. I was alright with this one. Again would have wished for a more dramatic focus. Personally whatever is on the top sign is driving me crazy and i want it scraped off (but thats just the perfectionist in me). I do like the composure of it, again wish I could see more in it.

#3. I really really enjoyed this one. i am assuming you drew the hearts on the leaf? I thinkt hat was a stroke of genious! absolutely amazing!

#4. This just looked like a family type shot. Nothing too impressive about it. it is good in a general way. Obviously with #3 you can do amazing. I look forward to seeing more amazing

Keep it up!

1. I think this can be better honestly. The focus isn't as focused as it can be. The leaf is still a tad blurry. Maybe a slightly different angle too.
2. I really like this photo, there is movement to it from the lines on the leaf. Plus the hearts are a nice touch and send a message. Something like, nature and love?
3. I think this photo is my favorite. Although I wish the lighting was a bit better. It looks like there is a person sitting near the bottom left and it is hard to make out because of the low lighting.

Overall, great job.

1- I think this one could definitely be better. The colors aren't quite as vivid as they are in your other pictures, and parts of the leaf are a bit blurry, which sort of distracts me

2- Love this one

3- aaand this one was my favorite. You did a really good job of getting all the detail in there.

4- again.. colors are sort of dull in this one too. But you got a good perspective in the shot, at least

overall, you're a much better photographer than I could ever be, haha. great work!

Picture 1: The macro seems a little off here - it isn't really focusing on the leaf very well, however the pattern in the background is really cool. It also seems to be slightly pixelated, as if you've tried to make the photo bigger by a little bit.

Picture 2: Wow! I love this photo! The colours are balanced beautifully - the only thing I can think of is if you added a slight border to your work. Also, try to include all of the sign - it seems sort of cut off.

Picture 3: The colours in this are gorgeous, however the photo seems to be slightly pixelated again. The right hand side is sort of blurry - maybe this could be fixed by taking several shots and then photoshopping them together? It's a good photo, but seems to lack a lot of things that could make it an awesome photo.

Picture 4: The trees are nice, but the background is far too busy. Next time, try taking a photo away from buildings and things that could distract the viewers eye from the thing you're trying to focus on. Also, if you're going to have a living thing in your photo, make sure the viewer will be able to tell what it is, because I can see a dog-like thing sitting in the shadow of the right tree. What is it? I DON'T KNOW!

I have a couple of questions now: What camera do you use? And also, do you use any photo editing software? If you do, what do you use?
