Hello everyone! This is the second part of Chapter 12! Again like before, if I switch tenses, please let me know! I'm trying to work on that!(:
As you can probably tell, the pace is starting to quicken slightly. In coming chapters, there will be more action and near the end, a battle like you may have guessed. And if anyone as a cool name for the Elf King, I would like to hear it! I'm having some troubles coming up with one. Thank you!(:
Nothing else mattered. Those families mattered, and because of me, they won’t have a home or live peacefully until I stop this. I, no one else. Not Trenton, nor Lyra, only me.
I watched the sky turn dark, filling with stars. My eyelids closed, and sleep overcame me.
My joints ached from the cold. Between my lashes, I can see the sun overhead. I stretch out my legs, the stiffness easing slightly. Propped up on my elbows, I look around the opening. Beside me, Trenton was still sleeping. I lay back down, soaking in some sun, warming my skin. Satisfied, I sit up on my knees, slipping off the blankets. I stand, testing my strength. I can stand without any problems. I begin to walk to the stream, wash my hands off. Like the day before, I dip in my hands. The water was still cool. The weather wasn’t helping much.
I pat my hands dry on my dress and watch the stream go by. My wrist looked healed, my Mark the same pastel blue it was before. I wonder... Curious, I stand. I spread my feet a small distance from each other, hunch a certain way, then whip my hands through the air. Focusing, I go back to my lessons of learning how to Move water. I kept my eyes on the stream, trying to become it, to control it. I remember the first thing my grandmother taught me. Make a simple ball of water and have it float up in front of you. Feeling some form of control over the water, I push together my hands to form a ball with them. Just as my fingertips were about to meet, my Mark glowed, causing me to loose my concentration and gasp. As soon as I lost control, it stopped.
I whip my head back to see if Trenton heard me, I know he wouldn’t approve of this without Lyra’s consent. Regaining calmness, I stand at the edge of the stream, watching the stream, forcing all my energy into it, hoping to gain control. Like before, I feel the familiar sense of power and force my hands together. My Mark begins to glow like before, but I try to ignore it. In the water, something began to form. The harder I pushed my hands together, the more it became prominent in the water. A sphere. A clear sphere began inching out of the water. For a second, I lost it and it fell slightly from my excitement, then I pulled it back up. Higher it went, now eye level.
I can Move again! I can’t believe it! I toss the ball of water to the side and catch it before it falls, then throw it back into the air, laughing joyously all the while. Feeling childish, I toss the ball to where Trenton was sleeping, splashing all over him. I laugh.
Trenton shoots up, looking around, ready for an attack. He shakes his head, water droplets spraying everywhere. Seeing me laughing by the stream, he gives me a look, then confused. “What the...”
“I can Move again! I can!” I run over to him. “See!”
I watch the water that I had just thrown at Trenton evaporate into the air with my hands, then spill back down when I released it, drenching Trenton again.
“Can you please stop doing that?” Trenton smiles.
I laugh again, unable to stop. The relief is too overwhelming.
“How can you do that? Lyra said it would take weeks.” Trenton tries ringing out some of his hair, then shakes it again, spraying me.
“I don’t know. I just did,” I say, whipping off my face.
“We should probably go back to Lyra, then,” Trenton says, standing up. His shirt was also soaked. I couldn’t help but smile. He looked ridiculous.
“Alright.” I jump right up, almost skipping. Trenton begins packing up the blankets and food that wasn’t eaten. I help him get everything packed.
With everything cleaned up, we head back to Lyra’s. Through the trees, I skip, run, and twirl. I can’t help it. My blonde hair whips my face, brushing against my ears. The white dress that I wear is dancing along with every step I take. I can do this. I can defeat the King.
