“Sure you are. Come on, let’s get you some breakfast!” Naya swooped Poppy up into the air and saddled her on her waist, making the three year-old break out into an adorable giggle.
Naya took the seat at the breakfast table opposite Julian with Poppy on her lap.
“Now...” Naya began, addressing Poppy, “we have pancakes, sausages and bacon...which one would you like?”
Poppy moved her thumb from her mouth and looked at Julian before saying, “pamcakes.”
“Sweetie, its 'pancakes', not pamcakes,” Naya corrected her gently. “Come on, say it with me: pan–cakes...”
Poppy looked determined. “Pam-cakes...”
“Never mind,” Naya chuckled, plaiting a pancake onto Poppy’s plate before tucking into her own breakfast.
Silence fell at the table, until Julian broke it.
“Uh, Naya...” he began.
Naya was chewing her food. “Hm?”
“Your god-daughter keeps looking at me...”
Naya turned towards Poppy. “Don’t stare, sweetie, it’s rude,” she then addressed Julian with a smile, “I think she likes you.”
