Salutations~

Happened across here in a search while looking for "young upcoming writers". I was thinking more along the lines of Jonathan Safran Foer, but this is fine too. (Take it as a compliment! It's not like I was looking for Paolini.)

I've got an interest in a website like this, beyond writing, but that aside I do plenty of writing myself. Name it and I'll produce, just be patient...blah blah , same old, same old.

I have a feeling I'll do more reviewing than posting material, what with being in college and most of my writing will be focused there. I also write for a magazine, classical music columnist, not Vanity Fair or AV Club, but something smaller. I've been around the block some with publishing and writers, so I'll offer what I can.

That is great you seem like you have tons to offer to the site. Hopefully you will get a lot out of it too. Everyone loves a good review on here, so feel free to do ten a day if you wish. The best way to get around the site is explore, but a few places to get to know people are the lounge, chat room, blogs, clubs, and time wasters and games. When I first joined I tried to go to one new place every day.

Nate (the founder) does most of the computer coding type of stuff so if you want to get involved in that way I would P.m. him. I know nothing about computers But, if you have any general questions about the site you can p.m. me or almost anyone else on the site. Everyone is willing to help.

Wow, you have so much experience! I admire you already! It's always nice to get new reviewers here. I'm trying to start back up with my reviewing again because my review count is currently very poor. I hope you find this place to be very enchanting. So, just a few general questions for you...

What is:
-your favorite type of genre?

-your favorite color?

-your favorite food?

How is college? Is it fun or is it a drag? Do you like your classes? Are you making good grades?

What type of things do you write? Are you willing to post any of them on this website for the YWS world to see or are you too shy?

Are you really mean? I sure hope not.

What is your favorite number? Mine is two. Do you have a favorite letter? My favorite letter is x because its the kiss in xoxo.

Do you have any siblings? I have two sisters and a brother but I'm oldest. It sucks.

Where are you from? I'm from France but I live in Texas now. Yep, I'm a frenchytexy. Yeah, that was so not a word.

How does it feel to be interviewed by a teenager? Is it fun or just annoying?

Thanks for the welcome! I've had some experience with forums in the past, so this one shouldn't be too much of a problem. Some of those other forums were quite ugly too.

I'll see if I have the time to devote to everything you mentioned. My guess is I won't, or I shouldn't at least. College sucks like that.

Reise-

Don't elevate me too highly, it'll take too much effort for me to impress you later on. Joking aside, I'll humor you.

My favorite genre is magical realism, and perhaps not entirely for writing that has been done so far with it, but its potential.
Favorite color, red. Food? A tight race between chicken parmesan with pasta and fresh sushi sold in the bars around Tokyo.
College is what you make it, honestly. If you put effort forward to put yourself out there, you will find yourself having a great time. Just avoid 300+ students per type classes whatever way you can. Also, make friends and network. This is imperative.
Now class wise. All non-English/Writing classes, some of them are wonderful. As for my majors, English and Rhetoric, some classes are great, and some are incredibly boring or infuriating. Writing ones for instance, don't get me started on some. Ask me at another time, I have some decent stories to share.
Grades, I better do well, I'm part of the honors program!

I write whatever I make myself. I've never tried to limit myself, and the results have been laughable and rewarding.
I'll post some, but I'm a proponent of being cautious on the internet. Not that I suspect anything or anyone, but little green men might take my ideas in my sleep . That and I don't like posting old material unless I've substantially revised it. Think of it as me keeping the most recent things in mind.

Mean? No. Sarcastic and full of lovely thoughts and mutterings, why not? I've been humbled many a time, so my persona is tempered with reality. I might bring an old mate or two from my past if they have time for a forum like this.

Number? I might as well list "enjoys long nights watching Grey's Anatomy and snuggling up on the couch" as this rate (I don't like that show at all by the way ). Nine, though. Any reason for two?
Letter-wise, I suppose I really like the cursive version of capital "J". Print/block writing does nothing for me.

I have one sibling, who's in grad school at the moment. Somewhere I hope to be if I like the idea of a living that's not paycheck by paycheck.

France and then Texas? What possessed you? I have a good deal of family in Texas, and some are fine. Below a certain point or outside of the cities...well you know. I'm from Illinois though, still there. Not wanting to be though, after traveling out of the country several times.

It was a fine interview. I've had to hold a few interviews professionally, so it was a nice bit of introspection.

Author wise, I really can't think of any modern English authors I like. Rowling or Gaiman are a different scenario since it's very easy to like young fiction writing when you're the target audience. A much older author I idolize is Edgar Allen Poe. After that, I jump all around the world: Yukio Mishima, Tolstoy, Kafka, amongst others.
Hobbies, I listen to music. Due to some perks of a job, I can listen to some music way in advance of release. I also do martial arts, though college has seen an end to that. You don't really have hobbies in college.

Do not worry about your major in college. I know people who have changed their major at least three times after coming in as General Studies, aka undecided. You are fine.
