B&W Chess pieces

These are two of the last pictures I ever took with my old camera. ;O; I miss that camera somuch!!
Anyway...yeah, these are glass pieces, and I took one picture and it happened to turn out cool, so I set these up. What 'cha think?

Well I like it, I've always had a thing for black and white pictures. I think I like the first more than the second, because something about the second just seemed a little off for whatever reason, like it was less organized and, in that way, less artistic. I also think it would've been nice to see a little bit of contrast, maybe a splotch of color somewhere that would supply a focal point or whatever. All the same, these aren't bad at all.

I noticed this had no reviews! I must fix that injustice right away!

1<--- It looks like all the chess pieces are teaming up on the knight/horsey! I like the angle!

2<--- HAHA re-enforcements for the horsey/knight guy! Muahahaha! Again I like the angle, it gives a new perpective on chess pieces!

I thought the lighting was awkward in the second and it's rather cluttered so I'm not a fan at all but the first. You've got a lot to work with there. I'd suggest trying it again and taking it just that little further out so you get the whole of the king piece in, and if you move them around a little you could really frame the image. I like that the horse stands out quite a lot but if you could emphasise that? It would be awesome! Create a little space around it so there's a greater contrast between the black and the glass, I think that would be really cool.

So overall, a little raw but you're going in the right direction. Nice try.

Oh and also? I'd love to see someone take a photo from below a glass chessboard, looking up through the board at the pieces? I think that would be an awesome photo and I'd do it myself but I'm lazy and my glass chess board is solely for playing chess and for the memories. It would be cool though. Can you blame me for trying to encourage you? XD

The first picture is wonderful. It has some element of mystery of it, and offers a different perspective for the pieces- more personal. Wonderfully done. I like the lighting, and the contrast of the different textures on the pieces. However, I did not like the second piece- it felt forced, and didn't have any special perspective or emotion to offer. Sorry. :/

Thank you all! ^_^ I like the idea for a picture under the chess board. I might try that o.o My only problem is that I'm not sure how to do the lighting again. It just happened to come out black when I did it, even though I was sitting right next to a window. I'll play around with it, see if I can make it work.

Hi Chryssa! I really like this ... I like it quite a bit! Chess pieces have such a medieval mystique to them, making them fabulous photography subjects. The only thing that bothers me about the first picture is that the top of that one piece is cut off. It's a king, right?

As for the second one, as Kitty mentioned, the pieces are a bit cluttered. I can't really discern one piece from another. Maybe try separating the pieces a bit next time.

Overall, you used some great angles and definitely exhibit talent in photography!

I love how scary these look! They look like screenshots of a horror film set on a chess set! The first one even looks like an x-ray shot scan. Pretty cool set to use for the photo rather than a plastic set. The second one is crazy too because they look like glass.

First things first, B&W chess pieces can look pretttyyy good ;D And I think you have a lot of potential for them to look really good
The first one is creative; I like that low angle. However, I'd retake. I would zoom out a little, then when editing them, increase blacks and contrast. Really just play around with it to get some depth.
The second one isn't as good, but if you play around with the angle which you could take it from, I'm sure you could get some amazing shots!
All in all, you have a lot of potential!
