So, I didn't draw at all during the summer. And before that, it was mostly just in school books alongside my notes- before that, I used to draw all the time.
I recently picked up a pen, and tried, and realized that the phrase "Use it or lose it" applies to drawing. So, here are my attempts are relearning it.
Please don't kill me with critiques; I love CC, but not insults. And these were in school notebooks again. :)

Thanks for reviewing!

I have a mild obsession with drawing eyes-

This was a drawing of a picture I took- I still need to fill in hands and the beach background. :)

Thanks again!

Ahhhh lined paper!

Anyway.

One thing that I noticed right off the bat with your first drawing is that you have a very common misconception about the chin. Check out an anatomy book (or, alternatively, you can run up to people and stare at them for a little while), and you should see a couple of discrepancies.

Firstly, you were very tentative here in drawing the eye, and the result is that it looks almost as though it has been transposed from a head-on perspective. Remember that, directly from the side, the human eye looks more like this: > and you have drawn it like this: <>

Secondly, you could definitely use some strengthening of the chin. The chin of the human face juts out, almost to an alarming degree, and you have downplayed it here, and the result is a little bit awkward.

His forehead also needs to be flatter, longer. Right now the slope is much too sharp, and it downplays his features and makes it difficult for us to interpret the rest of your picture. Remember that his eyes should really be in the center of his head (basically, I am oversimplifying for the sake of understanding).

On to your second drawing!

Your pencil control here is very good, and the highlight is in precisely the correct spot. One thing, though, that does bother me about this, is the slope that you have given to the iris. You have it leaned back, away from the corners of the eye, rather than spreading to fill more of the space. The result is almost catlike, and it doesn't connect with the rest of the piece. You lose the original roundness of the drawing, and it becomes flattened. The eyelashes should also really be much darker.

The last drawing doesn't have a whole lot to critique--as a simple line drawing, it is very effective. But what about her hands? They would be the focal point of the piece had you included them, and the overall image would be much less staticky.

Really, though, this is nice work! Keep drawing!

Hiya!
Ohhh, Coral's drawing, awesome! :3
*ahem* Let's review, shall we?

1. I like this one, it's probably my favorite :) I like the expression he wears and the shading is done nicely too, it gives the a certain appeal. The way you shaded his cheekbones and nose is neat too, different from what I do. Although, there still is a few things that could be improved on. First of all, the way you drew the eye does not match the direction he's facing. You see, it's at a whole different angle so the eye should be like that too. Check out this image:

Do you see the way her eyes point and all?

2. I like this one too. I used to have such a hard time drawing eyes and I still do. I find myself trying to make them more complicated than they really are. You did a nice job overall, just wish you added a bit of an eyebrow to it though so it looks more complete. The only thing I would recommend you do with this is work on the depth with your shading. The eyes are man area where there are inclines and and all, for example it's lower next to the nose and the 'duct' I guess and more poofy near the upper eyebrow so work on shading more I guess. But this is a cool eye nonetheless, especially since you said you haven't been drawing in a while! :D

3. Finish her hands!! :D Lol, I think you got intimidated and decided not to do them, but do try. I know hands are probably the hardest thing to draw since they're so small and have so many different angels and movements. Anyways, it's a nice line drawing, I like how you pretty much got the whole basic shape of her. I mean, I've seen a lot of people totally mess up when it comes to drawing figures and yours is nice and neat.

Well, that's it! Hope I helped :)

Hi there,

First off, I just want t o say that these drawings are pretty good, you do seem a little bit rusted, but honestly, I'm impressed to see you draw this when you haven't drew in a while. And I hate drawings on lined paper, but promise I'll try to forget it. :)

1. I love the guy, and his lines are pretty good. The only thing that bothered me is the shading on his nose. The rest is excellent, but the line that separates the shadows on his nose are too intense. I would recommend that you erase a little bit of that line and degrade it so it's not so much of a shock. I don't know, just an idea.

2.The eye looks amazing. I know lots of people that can't even draw the shape of them, and you seem to be capable of it. I love it. It's like it half closed, right?

3. The lines of this one seems pretty good. I also like it, but I would recommend to put a little more details in it. Honestly, if you don't it'll still be great. BUT complete the hands! I know, I hate them too... And I use too always draw people with hands behind they're back because I was discouraged by them. The only thing that can help you with that is practice. I know I'm being cliche right now, but it's true. :) The more you draw them, the more you'll get the trick and get better.

Hope it helped, and keep drawing, you have a talent!

Hey there, Perseph (Do you mind me calling you that?).

Okay, so when it comes to the first drawing, it's actually pretty good. Ugly, but good, haha. It's kind of like the stereotypical witch with a big nose and caved in cheeks with scowl-lips and wire-like hair, lol. I agree with the others on this eye, that is should maybe look more at a certain direction as opposed to how it currently is.

I have to admit, I really, really like the second drawing. The one of the eye. The detail on it is really nice, and I love how accurate it is. Way better than anything I could do.

For the third and final drawing, I have to say I don't like it as well. I'm guessing it probably isn't really your area of art, to draw that type. It's more cartoony and the detail isn't as good or accurate. Though of course, like you said, you aren't finished with it.

Good luck, and let me know if you want any critiques.

Picture 1: I think somebody pointed out looking at human anatomy? Good idea, because your shading isn't bad but you have to work on the basic form of the face.

Picture 2: In my opinion, this eye is actually really good. Some people commented on the angle but I don't actually think it looks unnatural at all. Maybe that's just me, but I honestly think this looks fine.

Picture 3: To me, this looks rushed, especially the hair and the fact that she has no hands. Hands are hard, huh? Well, get out that anatomy book again, time to learn to draw 'em. And when it comes to hair, don't draw it in a bunch of lines, because that gives her spaghetti hair. Instead, draw the basic frame of the hair, and work from there.

Anyway, there's definately potential in all these drawings, so just keep working and I think you could come up with some great sketches.

Hey Persephoneia,
I loved the eye, im good at drawing eyes but yours was amazing, also with the face i personally think the nose is to big and the line on the chin ruin it, but other than that they were good drawings.

Hello there,

This is the thrid time I am trying to write a review for you for the pictures above due to the idiocity of my computer SO I hope this one does not fail!

I like your shading technique and your proportions seem to be just right. In all, your drawings seem to have a lot of potential in them so just practice, practice, practice.

Since the profile has already been discussed in much detail and God forbid I will critisize a rough sketch I am left with the eye. Please, please, pleaseeeeee (I cannot stress this enough) make the iris and the pupil round, round!. That is so important when looking at a drawing. Also, to add mor spacial value to the eye add a little extra shading from the corners
so it will look more round. The lashesshould not look like you seprately drew each one, they should be done in quick, sporadical movements (although you distributed the lengths well according to the oval of the eye) and seen almost as one but with slight *individual* lashes perking up(due to the quick movements). If you look at a natural eye you well notice that the creases underneath are not the same as above, what I mean is, if the above creases more or less look like one line, the bottom ones are mainly short lines coming from the two corners of the eyes while the one whole lines are much less palpable if at all there (same is advised to be done with the upper lid as well). I could not see from the scan, but I don't think you included the extra line between the eye and the bottom eye lid(look in the mirror and you will see this kind of moist, smooth line on which some peolpe like to put eyeliner as well) Please don't just make that line of one solid color (unless you're portraying a make up look) it glistens and plays with lighting so try to portray that too.

Ok, hope that helped :3
