The Plot

For as long as there has been art, there's been art thieves. Assassins are overrated, con artists can be found. Street thieves have no morals, spies are stuck-up.

But art thieves?

Totally different story.

No one thief has the same tactics as the next one. They know what they do inside and out, and have been doing what they do since, for most, they laid eyes on a painting, sculpture, or anything that classified as art. They know where the boundaries roughly lay, where their power ends and museum security starts. They're quick, they're cunning, they're smart.

They're untraceable.

With that said, the investigators and detectives working to find them are better than any of the past inspectors. One by one, the legends of the art thieving world are falling, being locked away, sentenced to life. No one's safe. Doors are bolted when they used to be locked, caps are worn where hair used to be loose. Clients are being cautious as rabbits with who they employ to steal, and thieves are using every precaution in the book with their employers.

But it's rumored that a group of freelance thieves, free of clients and the best of the bunch (or not, you know, depends) are still at it. Defying the laws of human nature, baffling investigators, and doing what they do best.

Being untraceable.

Now, I've said a lot for the thieves. But what about the investigators? Think they're the bad guys? Yeah, of course you do. But think- they have families, lives- they're not just the old cops with mustaches and addictions to coffee and donuts. None of them are bumbling fools, none of them are dumb and brute force-oriented. They're sick of being outsmarted, sick of being humiliated by criminals.

And, though most have resorted to running on caffeine and blunt ways to crack down on the thievery, there are another group. Fresh off of training, quicker and smarter than their colleagues, they're hunting down the big guns.

So now, it's a battle. People with friends and families to defend versus those who just need it to live. People who defend their beliefs versus those who've never been given the chance to even believe. People who know exactly what's right or wrong versus those who know how to survive.

The Setting

Modern day, in the city of Atopolis. (Yes, it's made up, but go with it, please?)

You're on one of two sides. Either you're a thief, or you're a detective. And guys, please don't all join as thieves. Detectives and investigators are needed, so provide!

The Rules

- Don't god mod, please? It bugs the life out of me.

- Posts must be at least 1000 characters. It's not a lot.

- Cussing to a minimum. Don't go overboard!

- No perfect characters. No one's totally flawless.

- Keep the ratio even!

- Romance is heavily encouraged, but the line is drawn. Sharply.

- Don't make your characters mopey and depressed and 'no-one-understands-me, I'm-so-misunderstood.' It's overused. Not saying you must, must, must make them bubbly and lovable and happy, but being depressed won't help them find thieves or steal artwork.

- No emo/scene pics, okay? I don't want someone with swoopy bangs or hair that sticks up five inches.

Name: Tulip (Tuli) Cosner

Appearance (written and picture): Tuli's got dark, wavy hair and pale skin, and striking blue eyes. She's only barely on the tall side, and thin. She's muscular, too. Tends to wear dark, formfitting clothes.

Personality: Stealthy and quick, in all senses of the word. Smart as heck, and a daredevil. Won't give up for anything, and doesn't care what people, the law, or physics tell her to do. (Seriously, she's almost defied gravity before.) She's sarcastic and has trust issues, and despite the fierceness in her, is playful and taunting. She leaves a tulip petal at the scene of each of her takings, and even then has yet to be caught. She's an incredible thief, and she knows it.

Background: Tuli comes from a wealthy family. An only child, actually, and she can count how many times she's seen her parents on two hands. She was raised by her nanny, who was killed in a car wreck when Tuli was fourteen. She's taken care of herself since, and moved into a penthouse at age sixteen. She's always liked stealing, and art, so after her nanny's death, she just started stealing art. It satisfies her.

Strengths/Likes: She's an incredibly fast runner and is nimble with good aim; resilient and smart as anything. She's a master of disappearing, and can vanish without a trace from a crime scene. She loves eating, sleeping, and stealing, and her oriental shorthair, Ruby. Not to mention her motor scooter (named Steed), wind, cold days, murder mysteries and rain.

Weaknesses/ Dislikes: She FREAKS OUT if she sees a roach, and hates the sight of blood in real life. She can't cook to save her life, and is stubborn and proud. She's a perfectionist and an overachiever as well. She hates veggies, orange flavored things, people thinking they're better than her, and small, yippy dogs. She doesn't like having to rush away every five minutes to represent her family (being an heiress and all), humidity, strong sunlight, soap operas, and remembering her nanny, Rosalie.

Name: David Massey

Known as: Sometimes he's called Davey Ramone (play on all the Ramones)

Appearance (written and picture): Short, straight dark hair. Lightly tanned skin, brown eyes. Rather average height, very thin, typically dresses casually, but like punk legend Paul Simonon for "jobs." Makes him feel more confident.

Personality: He's like a superhero with his alter ego. Normally, he is a happy young man, charming and friendly. Never has a mean word to say about anyone, and is almost always smiling. He is easy-going, and very outgoing. He doesn't hold grudges and is very willing to trust others, except for the police and detectives. He can spot them easily. On the job, he's quiet, shifty and blunt, very business-like.

Background: Son of a punk musician and his high school sweetheart, David has grown up listening to--and admiring---the greats: Johnny Rotten, Joey Ramone, Paul Simonon and Joe Strummer. He's come from a loving, supporting home, with a twin brother and an older sister. He's had no trouble in school, and made honor roll every grading period in high school. But he was bored living an actually decent life. He wanted to take some risks like his father did, before settling down. He started out pickpocketing, but soon found it too easy. He tried other things until he met a certain connection. There, he learned the art of well, art thievery. Since then, at about seventeen, he's been stealing for various clients, never getting caught.

Strengths/Likes: Strengths: Intelligent, super stealthy, VERY charming. Likes punk from the 70's and 80's, Redbull, and comic books.

Weaknesses/ Dislikes: Weaknesses: Trusts easily, can be a braggart, easily bored. Dislikes pop music, airhead girls, and comic book movies, except for The Dark Knight. That was a masterpiece.

Appearance (written and picture): Shortish brown hair with bangs, fullish lips, brown eyes, and is average height. Likes to wear hats.

Personality: Serious, but can be silly. Generally works too hard. She feels she has to prove herself, though everyone accepts her for the most part. She's competitive, and is determined to find art thieves. She is very social, but seems kind of guarded. She secretly is very insecure, hence the need to always prove herself worthy, otherwise she hates herself. She tries to hard, won't let anyone in. She needs someone to help her, but she won't tell anyone.

Background: Grew up competing with her older sister. She was artsy, studious, and very polite and kind. The perfect person, as she never let a single fault show. Anna tried to garner attention by going out for sports, extracurricular activities, teaching herself music...but it didn't work. She was ignored. She feels ignored by those around her usually, and thus feels down sometimes. She disguises her sadness and puts on a fiercely happy face to combat it.

Strengths/ Likes: Smart, resourceful, and knows how to get information. Likes classical music, classic literature, and modern architecture.

Weaknesses/ Dislikes: Insecure, tendency to feel lonely, and sometimes says too much or not enough. Dislikes her family, death metal, and broccoli.

Appearance (written and picture): James is tall, about 5'9, with short, dark brown hair and light brown eyes. He's slim, but athletic with tan skin. He usually wears jeans and a button up shirt with a leather jacket. Rarely seen wearing a suit, unless it's for something really important.

Personality: James hides a rebellious nature behind a shy, kind and quiet facade. Though he's smart and talented, his downfall is his temper, he inability to keep still, and his snarky mouth, especially when he's not watching it. He's sometimes too confident and can he appear to be a jerk at first but is actually really nice and a bit of a flirt. He often gets in trouble and has done so one too many times. Sometimes he knows when to keep his mouth shut and sometimes not. He would never rat out his friends: it would take some serious persuasion to make him talk... He doesn't like to see those he cares about hurt and is sometimes very fierce, especially in a fight (even though he hates fighting) and can usually predict his opponents next move during one.

Background: James grew up in a trailer park with a drunk father and a mother who was a prostitute. His early childhood was...difficult, and as he grew older, his childhood became non-existent, his parents wanting him to help out in every way he could. And they really did mean every way.

By fourteen, he was working along side his mother....and addicted to the lifestyle. He was missing school, dropping grades, and eventually he just stopped going. A year later, and he was in halfway house, getting it out of his system. He wasn't talking to his parents by now, and as soon as he left the halfway house, he found a job, went back to and finished school, and then college.

Eventually he applied to be a cop, even with his history, and was accepted. He excelled through the ranks, and left training at 22 years of age. In the three years since, he's put his parents away and has been prompted to Detective. He's looking forward to catching the bad guys and putting them away for the rest of his life.

Strengths/Likes: Strengths; James is good at looking for even the smallest clues; he tends to notice things others may not. He's quick on his feet, smart, stealthy and sometimes very kind. Cooking, stealing things, running and forever being on the move; he likes to think, and to think, he needs to pace, walk or sometimes run. Likes; Likes the dark, the moon and the stars, the sun, cats, weapons, martial arts and shiny things, expensive things and, oddly enough for a detective, stealing things. (Hey, if you gotta steal evidence, you gotta steal evidence.)

Weaknesses/Dislikes: Weaknesses; James has a fiery temper that can sometimes get out of hand. He's also a little impatient when it comes to waiting--he just can't stay still. Though he is a fast on his feet and really smart, he lacks the ability not to rush into things. Because he doesn't like to stay still, he often forgets to stop and think before acting. Dislikes; James never liked school or studying...or violence, and really loathes getting into trouble and/or danger and getting caught (which has happened once or twice, when he was *ahem* borrowing (stealing) evidence). James really hates being forced to do anything; if he were to be pressured into anything, he's probably freak out just a little. Maybe even panic? Especially when backed into a corner. He also tends to overreact on rare occasions, such as confronted with past misdeeds, which are many.

Name: Sienna Houston

Gender: Female

Appearance (written and picture): She is pretty average height at 5'7'' and is thin built. She isn't hugely muscled and doesn't look like she'd be much use in a fight. She has long red hair and light blue eyes.

Personality: She is the brains of the detectives, and is quite intelligent. She is very book smart, although her street smarts are lacking. She isn't very tough, but for a time she worked with the military on coordination and planning. She does know how to shoot a gun, however, but is better at fixing them than shooting them. She is a genius in several aspects, and also knows a lot in the medical field. Besides that, though, she is a very sweet and innocent girl, despite the field she works in.

Background: Her father was a spy for the American Government. However, when Sienna was fifteen he was killed on a mission. Exactly how he died is unknown. Her mother was a stay at home mom, and raised Sienna until then. She remained in her boarding school on a scholarship. When she was just sixteen (after skipping eighth grade) she graduated from high school. She spent two years in college, and then went to work with the American military. From there she was a weapon designer for the FBI.

Strengths/ Likes: She is a genius, very sweet, kind, pretty. Likes chocolate, feeling useful, finding other methods than killing people and horses.

Weaknesses/ Dislikes: She isn't very tough, she has little to no street smarts and cries whenever her dad is brought up. She dislikes killing people, shooting a gun and cats.

Name: Oscar

Appearance (written and picture): Generally has a scruffy and disheveled look to him, with longish hair that seems to have never been brushed. His clothing often seems odd/inapropriate for the situation, and his shoes and socks frequently don't match.

Personality: Whilst he may seem absentminded and lazy, Oscar is in fact an incredibly sharp character, constantly observing and noting down anything he considers to be of interest. He usually has a lighthearted and flirty exterior, but this can be dropped in an instant when on a case.

Background: *pause* I'll get back to this.

Strengths / Likes: Strengths: Oscar is good at picking up and remembering small details that other people might not notice. He's also fairly charismatic despite his shabby appearance.
Likes: Oscar is somewhat of a caffeine addict. Deprive him of his coffee and you will undoubtably be faced with a rather grouchy and tired young man. Aside from this, he also likes girls, notebooks and, erm, coffee.

Weaknesses / Dislikes: Weaknesses: Whilst being preoccupied by the little details, Oscar often misses out on the bigger picture. This habit also refers to his day-to-day life; he'll often forget to do the everyday things, like, say, getting changed from pijamas into work clothes before going to work.
Dislikes: For some strange reason, he dislikes being outside in all the glorious nature, and isn't the biggest animal fan. Oscar also hates paperwork with a passion. (Who wouldn't?)

Known as: Kat, for her abilities to move quickly and quietly without being seen.

Appearance (written and picture): Tall and then with dark, black, short hair. Her eyes are light grey, her lip is pierced and she wears a lot of eye liner. She looks Gothic, but she's not, she just likes the style. She normally wears a tank top and black skinny jeans or shorts.

Personality: Kind and sweet with a tough heart. She's been through a lot, and her friends are the best thing she has. She doesn't like being alone, and she loves to talk and joke, but she's serious when she needs to be. She's from the south, so she makes up her own words a lot. Everyone gets used to it.

Background: She was born with one older brother, and her mom died when she was born. She grew up rich, and there seemed to be nothing wrong. Her dad killed himself in front of her when she was 10. Her brother ran away that day, and she hasn't seen him since. Jessie doesn't remember what his name is, let alone what he looks like. Now, she surrounds herself with friends, and she's commonly known among thieves and detectives both.

Strengths/Likes: She loves to be with people, and she works better when she has someone she knows with her.

Weaknesses/ Dislikes: When she's alone, she often begins to talk to herself, and begins to feel abandoned.

Personality: He's playful and funny, but he knows how to be serious. He always jokes with the boss, and knows how to cheer people up. He's nice and sweet and carefree.

Background: He grew up poor, and on the streets selling drugs fora living. When he was put in jail at the age of 17, he began to change and decided to be a detective. He's been working as one for 6 years.

Strengths/ Likes: He likes to flirt and he likes being flirted with. When he's on a job doing something, he likes to pair himself with people he doesn't like to help him concentrate.

Weaknesses/ Dislikes: He doesn't like it when people ignore him, though his boss does to annoy him. He doesn't like working with people he likes, because he knows he'll be distracted and joke with them (though he does that to everyone)
