"No! No!" I screamed, pushing through the crowd. "Damon! Don't!"
"Such manners!" One old lady tutted. "No respect."
I didn't listen. I pushed throught he crowds. "DAMON!" I screamed louder than I thought I ever could.
Go Nic go. I thought to myself.
"Nic! Nicolina! Look out!" A faraway voice said. I slammed into a wall. I tasted blood on my lip but ran on. My hair was flying any which way, clinging to the tears on my face.
Then I saw him. Damon. Standing next to two scary looking people. It was them. The wizards wanted me, not him. Damon was just a mortal, caught in the middle of an ancient battle. The wizards sw me coming and yanked him into the shadows. All I heard before I collasped was the long, agonising scream.
Then I woke up. Is he alright? was my first thought. Oh my God! I prayed I wasn't seeing the future, as I so often did. Damon was Damon. Tall, brown haired, athletic. I was Nicolina, or Nic. Auburn hair, quiet, known as a mystery girl. Damon knows everything now, just not the danger I've so stupidly put him in.
It was just a Saturday morning. The wizards weren't here, weren't due. I'd take better care of Damon than that.
But there was Mason. So very long ago, in my third life, he sacrificed his life for me. Now, Mason was Damon. He would do the same. I can't let that happen.
I got dressed and paced around my room Until I felt calm enough then I went into the kitchen.
“Morning Nic.” Mum said as I slid into a chair.
“Morning Mum.”
“Sleep well?”
“Fine.” I lied. I got good at it before Damon knew.
“Now, do you want eggs or a bacon sandwich?”
“Bacon sandwich, thanks.”
Just then, Dad came in. From the redness in his face, the wet patches on his shirt and that he was puffing, I guessed he’d gone for a run. “Morning girls!”
“Morning Dad.”
“Morning love. Eggs or a bacon sandwich?”
Dad winked at me. “I’ll have what Nic’s having.”
“Okay then, I’ll have double dog poo on slices of mouldy bread.” I said mischievously.
“Sounds good!” Dad said, heading off to the shower.
“Seeing Damon today? Can you light the stove please?”
I stared at the stove until a blue flame erupts under both frypans. “Nope. He’s seeing his cousins, I think. You’re stuck with me!”
Mum makes a face of mock horror. “All day with my daughter? Heaven forbid!”
I laughed. “I know, right? A whole day.”
“Survive the let down, won’t you? It’s only one day.”
I looked at her.
“Well, you came down looking deflated and you aren’t seeing him today. A mother knows these things.”
“Yeah, I’m pretty bummed.”
“He’s so good to you, your Damon.”
“I know. He’s almost too good to be true.”
“It’s true Nic. Even when you’re as young as fifteen, you can know love.”
“Yeah...”
I thought of all the things Damon’s done for me over the past six months. At the beach last April, on our one month anniversary, he gave me a bunch of gerberas, my favourite. In May when we had our first kiss, the sweetness of it all had me melting. In June, on my fifteenth birthday, he took me to the movies and paid for everything. In July, when I was shivering like mad at school, he gave me his jumper. Now it’s nearing the end of August, and it was my turn to be the giving one. It was his birthday, and I gave him everything he asked me for. We went to the movies again, and I paid. That day was the best ever in my life. On August the fourteenth at around four-twenty, he said he loved me.
While I was daydreaming, Dad had his shower and he and Mum were eating breakfast. A plate of bacon and bread was sitting in front of me. I began eating it, and adding maple syrup. Once I was done I put my plate in the sink and retreated to the lounge room. I put on a DVD and grabbed my phone to see I had a message. My heart fluttered when I saw it was Damon.
Hey gorgeous, the cousins are here and I’ve been totally excluded. What u up 2?
I replied: Just watching a DVD. I was hoping you’d text actually. It’s weird, I don’t know what 2 do with my Saturdays. Funny huh?
LOL. That’s my Nic. We’ve only had our Saturday tradition for 3 months.
That is about 90 days.
Ok, that is a lot. I remember mine so much calmer than four kids under ten running around. My sister is a nutcase. You’re so lucky 2 be an only child at times like this.
Yeah, but when I was younger, I had 2 play by myself. No chasy, no hide and seek, anything. Only when I saw my cousins that are a rare novelty.
I see your point. Phoebe’s still a nutcase.
I have to agree.
I’d better go, Mum’s calling. Hope it’s not chores.
Ok. Bye, love you.
I love you too. Bye.
Sigh. It’s no fun sitting around without my boyfriend on a Saturday, when I’m pretty sure my parents are being loved up.
I've just started randomly writing this. Please tell me how I can improve it, because I'd like to continue to see how my first romance turns out. I also need some ideas for a title. 'To Be Confirmed...' doesn't make the cut.
