Chapter One
Why does it always seem like the world is out to get you? And when you ask someone what to do, or how to fix it they turn it all around and they blame it on you. Man why can’t my life be normal for once?
Hey my name is Keith Tiberius Tucker. I live in the little nowhere town of Zeeland, Michigan. Well that’s were I spend most of my time anyways. I go and visit my dad just on the border of Holland every other weekend.
My Zeeland home is a two story white house with a basement, oh and we have a pool in the back, how cool is that? We don’t really live in the downtown area of Zeeland, we live about ten or so minutes away by car, out in the country. Our road is always a path that semi trucks will take, so all through out the day you will here everything in the house rumble and shake as they roll on by.
Zeeland is more of a convince store than a city, I mean our downtown shopping area is only one road. And we mainly only have fast food places like, Hungry Howies, or Pizza Hut. But we do have one descent place to eat and that’s J’s Again. My dad always brings me there for breakfast on his Saturdays.
Every morning, excluding weekends, I have to drag my butt up from bed and go to the bane of my existence, Zeeland East High School. Ok we have an East and West building, and I am technically an East Junior, but I have just as many classes at West as I do at East. I seriously doubt why I go at all. I mean I ace all of my tests anyways, I mind as well not go. Oh and did I mention the fact that about everyone in both schools go to great lengths to avoid me? It has something to do with how it doesn’t “feel right” to be anywhere near me. What ever I don’t really mind that much. It gives me time to think. School is such a drag.
Chapter Two
“Come inside and be afraid, of this impressive mess I've made, if you take a look now you will find”. Man I love this song, its one of the only things that will get me up in the morning. Blaring death metal from my alarm clock. I did my annual routine, get up, take a shower, get dressed in my full black attire, do bathroom stuff, and then go read on the couch until its time to drive to school.
I’ve always liked to read, but only if it’s a book that I want to read. Not something boring like an auto biography. Oh and the books that I read usually consist of vampires in one way or another.
I look up from my book to see that the clock says 6:50. I give a deep sigh as I gather my backpack and I head out to my 1993, light green, Ford Taurus. Yes it’s an older car, but as long as it moves from A to B then I’m happy.
I get to school and its 7:02. I walk to my first hour English 11, and I sit in the very back corner of the room. As I watch the clock tick by the other students file in slowly at first but as we approach 7:29 they all seem to fly in at once. Everyday there’s about a two desk radius around me that no one will sit in. I’ve even seen people argue over a seat because they don’t want to be anywhere near me. I laugh every time.
Next was Algebra 2, just like before I sat in the back corner. The teacher passed out a two page worksheet. It usually takes the students the whole hour to complete it, and some have it as homework. I turn it in, in about five minutes. As I pass everyone to get to the front of the room to place it on the teachers desk, I can see every student shiver as I pass them. I can’t help but to smile.
After the endless math session I pass over to West in the middle of a down pour. Ok here’s the thing about Michigan, it doesn’t matter what season it is the weather is unpredictable. One day it could be a perfect sunny day, and the next it could be a blizzard. Anyways when I made it to west I was completely drenched from top to bottom. Well except for the dry spot on my back were my backpack remained.
I hurried on to Chemistry, which I thought would never end. I swear that if the teacher got anymore boring heads were going to roll. And with that chemistry ended and we were all dismissed to lunch.
Ok normally you think of lunch as a fun break were you and your friends can hang out and get away from school. If you are me, then it’s almost the opposite. At lunch I basically have my own table, because the table I sit at everyone knows to stay clear of it. Seriously people its not like I have a freaking virus. Whatever, I don’t mind the table to myself. It’s kind of nice really.
At lunch I really don’t eat, I just either go over my own thoughts, or I read. That’s my normal lunch, but what I would soon come to find out, this day is not normal.
Chapter Three
I herd some loud whispers coming from the entrance way to the West cafeteria, at first I ignored them, but as it went on I began to tune out everything else. That’s when I herd her, this voice that I have never heard before. Ok I pretty much knew everyone at both schools, and they all knew me, but this person had to be new. She must be a foreign exchange student or something. As I listened in carefully to the conversation I could hear that a group of girls, I believe it was some choir students, telling the new girl something about me. The leader of the group, I think her name was Amanda, I could hear her distinctly. It was faint but I swear I herd her say something like, If you had any brains at all you will stay away from that… that… Thing! The new girl said something back, but I couldn’t hear what she said. When I looked over at them her facial expression wasn’t angry or annoyed, it was just happy, and perky.
I’m not sure what happened next, but the next thing I knew this new girl was bouncing over to my table. That’s when I really got a good look at her. She had short dirty blonde hair, she looked short for her age, but for I know she could be a freshman. She was wearing a black t-shirt with one of those green half sweatshirts, the ones that stop around the bottom of your rib cage, and she had on some black skin tight shorts, seriously how are those comfortable?
She walked right up to my table and sat in the seat directly across from mine. She just sat their and stared at me for a second. It was very bizarre and I could feel the eyes of the whole cafeteria on us. But she interrupted my thoughts with a higher pitched, kind of little girl sounding voice
“Hey their”! She said. “My name is Isabella Perkins, but you can just call me Izzy”.
I didn’t know if I should answer her, or if I just ignored her she would go away. Unfortunately it didn’t look like she was going anywhere, the longer I waited the more and more she stared at me.
With a deep sigh I finally said. “Hi I’m Keith”.
“Hi Keith”! She said loud enough I swear people still in class could hear it. “So why are you over here all by your lonesome”?
Ok what was up with this chick? Can’t a guy sit by himself in piece?
“I like my privacy”. I said simply.
“Well you’re not going to get it in a lunch room full of loud and noisy high schoolers”. She smiled as her hair swayed with every movement she made.
I couldn’t help but to laugh a little. “Well I was very content before you disturbed me”. I said solemnly.
“Well you better start getting used to me, cause I’m not going anywhere fast”. She stated with a giggle.
“And what if I just decided to get up and leave? What then”? A grin appeared over my face, as I realize that the entire room has grown silent.
She smiled sweetly. “Then I will just have to follow you”.
“And what if I go into the guy’s bathroom”? My smile did not falter as I stared at her.
“Oh please, I’m not afraid to go into the scary men’s bathroom”. My smile faded as I started to realize that it might be more difficult that I thought to get ride of this girl.
Without another word I got up from my seat, grabbed my backpack, and I started to leave the lunch room. It wasn’t long until I noticed that I was being followed. I sighed and turned around. “Listen, girly…”
“Izzy”. She corrected.
“Ok Izzy, why are you following me”? I looked at her a little annoyed.
“Because you’re not boring! All the other people here are just spineless weaklings who just go on with their day like mindless drones”.
Her answer surprised me, and I found myself taking a step back. “Wait, you’re not just trying to bug the freaky kid who no one likes”?
“Nope”. She smiled. “So it looks like you’re stuck with me”.
“Or you know, I could just run”. And before she could respond I was rushing down the hallway as fast as I could. I laughed to myself as I darted around a corner and stood their very still, until I decided the coast was clear and started to walk again.
“Hmm, that was easier than I thought”.
“To do what”? Her perky voice almost made me flinch as I spun around and she was standing right their.
“How on earth did you keep up with me”? Confusion covered my face as I stared at the perky blonde girl Izzy.
“At my old school I won three gold metals for track, three years in a row”. She held up three fingers and giggled. “Yup these puppies are so strong that I bet I could run from here to downtown in no time at all”.
I shook my head as I felt a headache coming on. My eyes grew wide as I realized what was happening. “I have to go, Now”!
I didn’t let her answer as I ran out the doors. I ran and ran until I reached a heavily weeded area that was just outside the school. I collapsed to the ground as I grasped my head with all of my might. This was just the beginning of the pain. The pain that comes with having a vision.
As if my life couldn’t be any more abnormal, I have this to deal with. I have visions. And it’s not what you would think, it’s not all hocus pocus and all, look at me a can predict the future. Visions aren’t movies that show you the future like you see at the theaters. I only see small images of people, I never really notice what their doing. I’m a little to busy being in extreme pain and agony. When I have my visions it starts as a headache, but very quickly it accelerates into my entire body screeching with pain. It’s like I’m being burned from the inside out. Oh and that’s not all, as soon as I have a vision about a particular person I will continue to have visions about them until they no longer walk this earth. And the longer they live, the more my body changes. That’s no walk in the park either. I’ve only gone through one change, and when it happened, it felt like someone broke all of my bones at once and then dropped a one thousand pound weight on me. And the change I went through… it wasn’t pretty. My body started to warp and become disfigured. It was like I was turning into a monster.
I concentrated hard on who I was seeing. At first all I could see was the fire ragging through out my body, but then I saw a vague outline of a person. The images were flashing so fast I could barely see them, but then I saw it, the person, the girl. It was someone in one of my classes. I think she’s in my World History class. In fact I was sure of it, her name is Rebecca. Everyone always called her Becky. A huge spike of burning pain coursed through my body. The darkness started to set over my vision, and there I lay passed out on the cold silent earth.
