~ First, a short bit from me:
Firstly, I’d like to thank everyone who submitted an article to YWS News, regardless of whether or not it was for the competition, you are helping keep this section alive for the young journalists on the sight and all those who love to read anything topical or non-fiction based. During the “just over a month period” there were 16 submissions to YWS News (not including blank or one-line articles, as well as any submissions from me). Each submission deserves a round of applause as writing talent is shown throughout in a collection of varying styles. Each was an absolute pleasure to read too!
So, without further ado, here are the results!

Article: “The Leader Of The Pack” news_story.php?id=73
Comments: A brilliant and engaging article on the threatening declination of wolves around the world. The reason why I thought this was the best article is due to it having the best opening (a fiction mix that gradually turns into non-fiction) and the most unique style. It is definitely an article I’d recommend. Congratulations!

Article: “Fast and Female – A Speech on Women’s Rights” news_story.php?id=63
Comments: An article that portrays a true sense of passion for the subject. It is convincing, very well written and structured. This article does not fail to engage the reader from start to end and if full of thought provoking points and back to earth reality checks for those of us with our heads in the clouds. Great article. Congratulations!

Comments: This article resulted in a big discussion and involvement from other members, showing that the subject was well-picked and well-written about. It offers both sides of the argument, creating a balanced review and is catered to its own unique style by the writer. A very interesting piece, even if I don’t like the movie! Haha, congratulations!

Comments: A very interesting read and perspective, a read that would intrigue most people of a variety of audiences. It is well discussed and thought provoking.

Comments: A very well written insight to the controversy surrounding abandoned pets, in this case kittens. Good sentence structuring and intriguing from start to end.

Comments: An inspiration for us all to think more outside the box at what could happen in later times. Short, but well written and very interesting.

Comments: One of the best openings of the articles submitted during the competition and well written from start to finish. It provokes us to think, but also to ask questions. A top notch piece of Non-fiction writing that only just missed out.

Comments: A very well written argument that engages the reader to make a choice between to titans of a sport, also includes the author’s opinion and stance to bridge that relationship between reader and writer.

Comments: Although brief, these reviews offer the reader a connection to what the game play is like and offers them enough background to make their own judgments on what they perceive/already think of the game play.
Article: “Field Articles: Using the mass power of the Internet.” news_story.php?id=68

Comments: A brief look on a thought provoking subject that uses simplistic, but engaging, language to hold the reader’s interest.
Article: “The Godfather” news_story.php?id=69
Author: Elinor Brynn
Comments: Although not as in-depth as a review of the Godfather maybe expected to be, this author’s writing flows wonderfully, picks up on most sections of the movie and offers the reader their own judgment. A very well written piece.
Article: “The Problems With Teen Tanning” news_story.php?id=71
Author: Mercyemptyinme
Comments: Although this is a general subject covered often by journalists and media, this author does not fail to captivate their reader’s interest. There are engaging facts, good sentence structuring and a comfortable fluency in their style. This is a very promising piece.
Article: “Bloodmaiden Unleashed” news_story.php?id=72
Author: Chasmira1060
Comments: Personally, I was confused by this submission. I have assumed it is a quoted review from Chelsea Perry. The review itself is fairly interesting, but unfortunately because of the confusion, I have dismissed this article from a winner’s place. It is a pleasant read, if you have the time.

Author: imaginemymind
Comments: One of the most discussed articles of all the submissions, this article was definitely very thought provoking on a sensitive subject. It is well written throughout, ignoring some minor spelling and grammar errors, and follows a good structure. I would definitely recommend you to have a read if you have time, it may even be enlightening.

P.S: As for the Part II of the YWS Official News Competition (Based on members’ discussion comments and active-ness in the News section, with point awards only), the results will be announced on August 9th 2010 as I am on holiday this weekend. Sorry for any inconveniences!
Anyways, there is always a next time. 
The decision was hard.
