Drop the Dream

I had a dream for so long
I always assumed it would come true
Never thought about how I'd get there
'Cause I never really knew
But I'm starting to wake up now
Because it's bursting at the seams
I think it's time to face the facts now
It's time to drop the dream

And it hurts to give up on a dream
It hurts to let go
I know I should've given up
A long, long time ago
They say... if you can dream it
You can achieve it
But I don't believe it
They say... go for it
What have you got to lose?
But when I say I'll never make it,
Nobody disagrees
That is how I know it's time to drop the dream

Deep down I always knew
I was never really good enough
To be someone you have to be
Better by so much
I didn't want to see it
But now that I've realised
I'm still so disappointed
And it's killing me inside

And it hurts to give up on a dream
It hurts to let go
I know I should've given up
A long, long time ago
They say... if you can dream it
You can achieve it
But I don't believe it
They say... go for it
What have you got to lose?
But when I say I'll never make it,
Nobody disagrees
That is how I know it's time to drop the dream

It was great while it lasted
But it's over now
I've gotta find something more realistic
To set my heart on somehow

And it hurts to give up on a dream
It hurts to let go
I know I should've given up
A long, long time ago
They say... if you can dream it
You can achieve it
But I don't believe it
They say... go for it
What have you got to lose?
But when I say I'll never make it,
Nobody disagrees
That is how I know it's time to drop the dream

If I die young
bury me in satin
lay me down on a bed of roses
sink me in the river, at dawn
send me away with the words of a love song

I like it. You pick a good topic, the difficulty and pain of giving up a dream. The lyrics are good, although I probably wouldn't be the best person to ask about writing lyrics to...well, anything. My only issue is that although I know this is done a lot, there is a good bit of repetition of some of your lines. Like I would try to save "That is how I know its time to drop the dream" for a fewer number of more precisely chosen places. Overall I like it, so keep it up!

I really like this and the concept hasn't been over done. It is so true and I like the rhythm. Keep up the good work. :D Spelling corrections in bold

'Cause it's bursting at the seams I don't like how you say 'Cause twice. Because would work here too.

It's time to drop the dream

And it hurts to give up on a dream I don't like how you say dream twice here. Even if it is a different stanza.

That is how I know it's time to drop the dream I would love this line if it was just It's time to drop the dream. I think the rest is implied.. Just my opinion though.

I thought this song was pretty good. It flows well for the most part, and I can only imagine how awesome the tune is. The verses for the most part are great, but get a bit repetitive near the end. You spend the whole time talking about giving up this dream, but you never really say what it is or why you're giving up. This makes the song feel repetitive. Also, there was one line that seemed really strange:

That is how I know it's time to drop the dream

Like Calligraphy said, I think it would be better just to say "So it's time to drop the dream" or something.

Overall, this was a good song, with deep lyrics. I wish I could hear the tune to it  .
"This is a song for a scribbled out name
That my love keeps writing again and again
And again"

Hey emalily!

I kind of like this! :D I can see it sung in a kind of country rock song by a female singer with powerful chops, which makes me happy. One thing... I would like to see the third verse expanded a little bit because it seems a little short as it is. But overall, it's lovely!

Hey guys
Just wanted to say I realise I didn't say what the dream is and I have acutally done that for a reason. People like to be able to relate to lyrics of songs and if I made it too specific then not many people could relate to it. I know the dream that I gave up on and the listener can fit this song to their own dream.
Everybody keeps saying it's too repetitive and I think you're all right, but I think f you heard the song actually being sung you would get over that and I don't really know how to change that now.
A couple of people said I should change the last line in the chorus to just "it's time to drop the dream" so I'm going to try it out and see how it sounds.

Thanks for all your feedback guys :)

What holds you betwixt panic and serenity? That is, if it's not among the many querulous quagmires unfit for elaboration.
