Book Love

This photo is really kind of an experiment.

I'm not great with photography, but I find that there isn't much to focus on here. There's a stray piece of thread (?) in the bottom left corner which is quite distracting, and I think the light on the cover of the book detracts from the picture rather than adds to it. It's a very "manufactured" image, meaning that it's clear you've set it up like this, but I'm struggling to find the reason for you doing so when the light is so off.

Having said that, the pages of the books both have very rich colour, and the photo certainly has an old, fantastical feel to it, but I think you need to consider where you want the viewer's eyes to go straight away. Otherwise, your image loses its individuality. The light shows off the hardcover finish and conflicts with the older appearance of the pages, meaning that it's difficult to draw a definite sense of time beyond the immediate "vibe" of the photograph.

I think it all comes with practice, though. Hopefully some of the keener photographers will give you some more detailed advice!

Nice pic. Brilliant staging. The lighting is bright and It makes it hard to focus on the books. However, the lighting also provides a sunny ( I don't know how to explain feeling) feeling. Its great you use different colored books. I think you may want to zoom out just a bit. Overall, its a nice pic. The lighting just make it harder to look at.

This poem has a vintage-y feel to it, and I like that! The way you manipulated the light to fit the needs of your picture is brilliant. I think the only problem with this picture is that distracting string (I hate distractions, don't you?), as it draws our attention away from the books, which should be the main focus. Apart from that, there is a hotspot, or a blinding white light, in the lefthand corner.

Still, nice work.
