The YWS Cliques

YWS has been going long enough for me to make some amateur sociological observations about how there's certain types of members that inhabit this online community. Without further ado, here they are: The Storybookers Users with an unstoppable propensity to write short paragraphs, one after another, to an average of 4876 pages, about anything that exists in the world. They have enormous postcounts and don't venture out of their storybook confines apart from to complain about changes in the rules covering storybooks. If we are to accept that Rule 34 of the internet states that if something exists, there is an "adult" version of it, somewhere; Rule 64 of the internet is that, if something exists, there will be a YWS storybook for it. The Oldies They make incomprehensible secret jokes about things that happened before you were born. Everyone knows their real name but you don't. They should have grown up and left a long time ago, or at least got published. They're almost as old as your parents. Perhaps the only clique that actually exists, the Oldies crossover lots with the Mods (see below) because they were in the right place at the right time. They also mock your one-year anniversaries and call everybody n00bs even if you've been here for four years. But, just like that wart on your big toe you never could get rid of, they're here to stay. Maybe. Although most of them are dead. Mods The few, the lucky, the elite. Sometimes, new members ask, "How do you become a Mod?" Unbeknowingly they've just made sure they'll never become a moderator. There's only two ways to become a moderator. One, you join a site just when it's starting and post a lot. Or two, the long, boring method, you have to be nice, smart and review a lot. You can usually spot these guys because they start correcting your grammarz and sending you annoying messages telling you to review more. Pfft. Whatever, losers. Chatters Some people who are always in the chat are actually victims of a horrible computer virus that has permanently locked them in there. Poor people. But others actually just need to go outside and get some Vitamin D loving from the sun. Somehow they come up with incredible topics of discussions over and over again. Or, you know, glomp each other and ask for reviews ninety times. The Permanently Perplexed YWS isn't really that complicated, but there's always somebody who forgots to read what Nate says, or doesn't actually know what a story is. Often new, but more often too lazy to read imporant threads, the permanently perplexed lead a horrifying life, lurching from calamity to catastrophe, as radio shows and contests are announced to widespread panic. WHAT TIME DOES IT START. WHAT ARE THE PRIZES. CAN I BE A MOD. HOW IS BABBY FORMED. And so on. Crazy Critters The monsters that can't be stopped, these guys have an insatiable desire to review everything that exists. One day, I imagine, when not enough people have posted their work, they'll probably just wade into the Post Your Own Pic thread and start critiquing people's faces. "You need more imagery, it's all a bit plain and unoriginal." I can see it now. Anyway, the Crazy Critters keep YWS pumping. The Wrong Kind of Artists It's not their fault. This is, after all, an Art & Photography forum. Nonetheless these wrong kind of artists mostly forget we're here to learn how to improve our writing. Probably, they got lost making a wrong turn on the way to Deviantart, and now they exist purely so people can boost their review count without actually having to read anything, creating a YWS loophole. Bloggers A varied bunch, from old members who don't actually look at the site anymore, but update us on their myriad lives anyway, to newish users who blog four times a day about how they've never had a blog before. The age of the bloggers is mostly on the decline, ever since that period when people kept making controversial entries just to see who could get the most replies. Bloggers are experts at enticing everyone in with clever titles like "Don't click here" or "WOAH WTF" only to tell you about how they suck at writing, or answer questions about their favourite lollipop. Namechangers Not actually a group at all, I just hate everybody who changes their username and expects you to remember who they are. As far as I'm concerned, you get one chance to pick something good, and if you fail, well, deal with it, IAreWriteeer167. You too, Book_babez93.

Also, I think we need to have a Lurker clique. They've been on YWS since the beginning of time... yet they have only two posts. Still, they expect you to know them and get upset when you welcome them as a new member. XD

What about the compulsive writers? Or, ah, just the...prolific...writers? Or...I don't know. This is a writing site. I think there should be a specific writing clique with a difference. Or maybe that's the whole of YWS.
