Sheep don't attack much, but my sheep always lead with their heads =P I don't know that I've ever been kicked by a sheep!
Unfortunately for those who keep sheep, there is always a chance that animals such as wolves will get to your herd. Around here we don't worry about wolves, but coyotes (and even the occasional fox) have been known to take an animal in the space of a few minutes. We [shepherds] have to sleep sometimes, and even with a decent LGD (livestock guardian dog), you lose animals to predation.
And thank you for your comment regarding the tone. I think I'm going to leave it as-is in that sense, but your input is still very much appreciated.
Second to last stanza used to read like this:
[My] eyes, yes. These you fear
Raindrops in a shallow grave have them tilted—turned to madness
Here they watch.
But I was extremely unhappy with it. The tone here, though, is definitely clipped and lacking. I need something in between. I will think on it.
