I know this is completely unplanned but it's for Jen's Contest....So. Happy Reading.

I sat at the edge of my desk, my biro in hand and its cover in between my teeth. My right hand was lain next to the piece of paper I had been doodling on. What to do? What to do? I thought, willing my seemingly dead excuse for a brain to work.

C’mon.. I urged but to no avail. Terror gripped me, I knew that I should have started writing instead of waiting one hour to my deadline. I imagined the depressed looks on my fans faces when they noticed that I had failed to write and for what reason….I was babysitting.

“Matt McWorrier” My best friend Ivana teased from her little perch on my windowsill. I turned around already angry at my inability to write and screamed at her.

“Would you mind screwing off somewhere far, far away.” Her face fell and she turned away from me.

C’mon.. I gnawed harder on the biro cover.

“I give up!” I yelled at my Naruto poster ignoring the caption on the top of the poster ‘Never Give Up!’. Oh the irony of it all. I grabbed my bags and walked out of my room with Ivana scurrying after me.

“What the hell are you doing?” She asked as I grabbed my mega-huge coat and walked out of the door.

“Looking for inspiration.” I said simply ignoring her horrified look as she noticed the hailstones outside. “You don’t have to come you know.” I said inclining my head to the side which basically said ‘You know that you are coming with me.’

She grabbed my elder brothers jacket and an umbrella and then she walked out of the house with me mumbling something about looking for inspiration in better weather. The both of us trudged down the street shrieking as each hailstone hit us on the head.

It started slushing (a mixture of snow and rain.) after a while and I chased after Ivana holding a handful of slush like an axe murderer. And that when she fell rather comically, with both legs in the air and slush all over her face.

“You freaking stupid….” I started but was way too busy laughing to finish. I tried to pull her up only to be flattened against the slushy ground.

“Ewww…” Ivana cried pulling her hands out of my brother jacket pockets and in them were the remains of what once was a peeled orange.

“Eric is not known for being clean…you know? You knew what to expect.” I said smugly leaning on the ground when it started to pour.

“Oh…sugar!” Ivana said getting a raised eyebrow from me. She still couldn’t say the word…and I was the weird one.

“Thank goodness I brought an umbrella.” She said opening the neon pink umbrella that my dad bought for me last Christmas that I made my younger brother use. I do this so when he meets his therapist- which he will- he can supply an enormous supply of stories of terror that I have put him through as Eric my older brother as done to me and Paul had done to him.

“Where exactly are we going?” She asked looking me straight in the eye, her arms akimbo. Er….well.

“Er…Well.” I said swallowing a gulp. “We are going to the circus!” I lied dragging her towards the circus.

“Its locked.” She said dryly.

“Well we’re sneaking in.” I lied.

“You’re what?” A shrill voice asked behind me.

“We are thinking of drinking in.” I said, “Non-alcoholic beverages….of course.” I added.

The owner of the shrill voice was quite simply a Clown. But it was half dressed and his make up was running off his face courtesy of the rain.

“Do you know what under aged drinking does to ones brain?” He asked shrilly.

“I’m not…

“It kills your brain and you are left like this piece of pie.” He said pointing to a half-eaten piece of blueberry pie. “You are…” He said but he stopped dead.

“Annette would you come out of the shadows for a minute.” The clown said exasperatedly. A clown snuck out of the shadows and hid behind the brash clown, she watched me and the rest as if we would bite her. It was almost as if she was afraid and she wouldn’t stop sneaking looks at us.

“Hi.” I called and she jumped.

The other clown sneered and said “She’s just scared of her own shadow.”

And just then a yellow alley cat jumped in-between us “Scared of her own shadow…eh?” He said sarcastically. I jumped, Ivana fainted and the clowns split….and just in that moment I knew what to write about.

But I will not tell you because….it’s a secret.
Dont tell me the moon is shining, show me the glint of light on broken glass.

Wow..you get inspiration but going out and meet things..For me, I just imagine and ideas just came to me..perhaps when I lost the idea, I will also need to go out and obtain ideas.
A good story is something that is readable and understandable regardless of the length

When I started reading this, knowing that this was for Jen’s contest, I was like…okay, where’s the orange. It took a while for you to get to it, but you got to it.
And I think you executed the idea of the contest well, and with no mistakes that I saw. The only thing that bothered me was that the characters didn’t seem to really make sense. I wasn’t really sure who was who in this.
But this wasn’t meant to be great. It was meant to be amusing and it was meant to make you write. And that’s exactly what you did!
So good job!

Never forget who you are, for surely the world will not. Make it your strength. Then it can never be your weakness. Armor yourself in it, and it will never be used to hurt you.
