I've tried to get critiques for these on DA, but no one seems to be very helpful, as all they do is glance at the pictures and leave no comments. So... I figured I should probably try here. Please could someone critique them? It would mean a lot to me to get some feedback on these drawings.

Okay, new pictures. ^^ I like that the first two are getting so many critiques and views, but I would also like for some others to get attention as well. Plus, they want to be seen.

Sea Dragon [Male - Needs a name]

Desert Dragon [Female - Needs a name]
Bio:
She is a dragon from the desert region of Stalandra. Her egg was found and hatched by a simple merchant. The collar she wears acts like a shock collar. The merchant had it specially made to fit around her neck and it makes her wings virtually useless.

A special magic harbored in the collar makes to where she can't fly or run away without the permission of her master, who likes to neglect her.

Though she has been in captivity since the day she was hatched, she desperately wonders what it would be like to be free. Without a collar, without a master who abuses and neglects her, without being stared at and prodded and poked.

And, like all female dragons, her secondary horns hold within them little balls of light, commonly referred to as light orbs. Because of this, many often think that the goddesses made them this way so that there would always be a light. Even in the darkest of situations.

Critique them as well please? It would make them (and me) feel better. Please and thank you. ^^

Hiya, Lisa! I'm KD and I'll be reviewing your artwork today.

Baby Silver:

Very cute. You did an especially good job on his wings. The two things I spotted that stuck out to me in a bad way were his legs and nostrils.
What happened to his hind legs? They seem to just disappear, but they should still be visible, coming out from under his tail, even if they're going off the page. I also think his back legs are a little too thick. And also, his front legs seem to be a bit strange too. Shouldn't they be a little longer? And his feet need some work.

Older Silver:

I love how majestic he seems, almost like a horse. The only thing I really didn't like are the veinish lines on his wings. I would prefer if they were larger, and took up the whole wing.

Hope I helped! Keep up the good work-

KD

These are very creative, and you have a very clean style.

I'm going to critique these pretty thoroughly, but understand that it's not because they are bad, only that I see a bunch of things that you could improve fairly quickly and easily here.

The first one, I think you could probably use a little more thorough study of anatomy. For most animals (and all large carnivores), the front leg is structured like your elbow. The way you have it drawn here is awkward not because the leg is not well-drawn, but because to the viewer the structure seems odd. Better to imagine that the joint bends in the opposite direction you have here.

And a little, slightly anal comment is with regard to the back foot. With the angle that you seem to have placed the leg, we should be able to see a little bit of his toes poking out from under his tail.

Another comment on his anatomy, as far as the wings. Sometimes it helps to imagine that an animal's wings are essentially structured like a human arm, but with long fingers (in the case of a wing that is translucent, such as a bat's or dragon's, this is even more apparent because you have dark, bony ridges encased in thinner webbing.

For the second sketch, I think you have much more adeptly captured the anatomy of the animal. I agree with KD in the sense that the veins in the webbing are a little overdone, maybe because this is a contour drawing and they seem over-emphasized when represented like this. I do think that you would be well-served by adding a mouth, because as it is now, it is hard to get a visual basis for your dragon's appearance.

You have shaded this one a little bit, but I think you definitely need to be sure you know where your light source is. The way it is now, there is no apparent light source, and so the shadows can't add to the realism of the drawing as they should. Take a photograph of something with lighting like you want and check it out. What angle do the shadows produce with the object? Are they elongated? Foreshortened?

The wing in the background has a little error with its joint, also. The way you've drawn it, it appears to bend forward, arcing in the opposite direction of the wing that is drawn closest to us.

As for his (her?) face, I think it's very expressive. However, one thing that I would suggest is to be careful with how you draw the animal in profile. Keep in mind that her face is round, like ours would be. The angle of her horns will be different, and they won't lie right next to each other like that (neither will her ears). The way you have it drawn here limits your ability to show us a creature that has a (presumably) wide face. Check out a horse in profile, and look at how their ears are positioned.

All-in-all, this is very nice! Good job!

Thank you so very much for the critiques! ^^

As for the baby picture of Silver (yes, he is male), I drew that looking at a really small almost solid black pixel picture of a baby dragon adoptable. I couldn't tell real well how everything laid out.

And the picture of Silver when he's an adult; I thought I might have overdone the veins a little bit. And shading is really hard for me to do and get it right. Its part of why my art teacher always had so much trouble with me. :smt096

Again, thank you so very much! I really appreciated it and I shall try and improve the pictures a bit! ^^

Whoa, these are pretty cool! I think on the first one of Baby Silver, the legs seem a little odd. But that's all I could find that screamed "fix me!". I prefer the second, adult picture of Silver, it's really very nice. Luffly job, here, and keep it up!
P.S. Dragons, right?

Hey there!

Baby Silver: This is such a cute little dragon. Is it a pokemon? If not, it should be! It's front legs are a little strange, which I'm sure some one else might have pointed out, but the wings are cute! i would absolutely love to see this in color, or even a variety of colors!

Adult: My first thought was, wow. It sort of has a fierce look in it's eyes, while still maintaining a sort of majestic presence. The wings are a little hard to differentiate between the two, like where they separate. If I may suggest, try more shades or more color. Overall, beautiful!

Yes, they are dragons! ^^ Nope, not a pokemon! lol, thank you though! ^^ I quite take that as a compliment as there are some pokemon that I find are really well drawn. ^^

Thank you again! ^^ Also, I do have a colored version of Silver up on DA.

And thank you Mizz and Amber for your critiques! ^^ They are much appreciated and I will try my best to improve! ^^

There's more dragon pictures here, plus the Character Profiles, City Profiles, and what there is of the story. It is much appreciated that you take a look. ^^

Hey there!

#1 - Baby Silver
Well, yes it's cute. They have that anime feel to them as well, I think, which is a good thing as it shows a certain style. Though, I feel it's really lacking something. That's either shading, colour or feature detail. It seems a little bland at the moment to really assume that it's anything more than "cute". Also, I'd make the back wing a bit less pointy as it sticks out quite a bit and looks a bit wrong compared to the win in the foreground. I'm also not sure about the proportion of the front legs either, the feet seem vertically squashed to be honest. I like the tale though and the shape of the head is very well drawn too. :) The nostrils are subtle, but quite good too. Colour would make this tons better. ~ I noticed your "colour dragon" link. It would be better if you didn't use a black and that you used colouring pencils as the median, I think felt tips look bad.

#2 - Adult Silver
Brilliant. I adore this. The angles are right, the tilt of the head is wonderful and the details of the wings are very good. You've also shaded the lining between his head and neck quite well! Very admirable ;) (I say "his", if it's a 'she' feel free to correct me!) Although, again, I feel it needs shading or colour for it's full potential.

Hope this helps,
Ben

The coloring was done on MS Paint. ^^' Believe me, if I'd had the right kind of colored pencils, I would have used them instead. Also, I would fix everything that's wrong on the baby picture of Silver, but I'm not allowed to touch him. =) Plus, he was drawn looking at an almost solid black piece of pixel art. ^^' And thank you very much for the critiques, they are very much appreciated. ^^ I will try to shade them better, but I am not very good at it. Again, I thank you for the critiques. ^^

#3: good job on the lines down the neck very nice, the eyes are very good.
#4: i really like the horns in this one very creative and i also like how well you did the spot where the wings connect to the body, my only complaint is the horse like nose.
