I was focusing my attention on Lollie, relieving her hang over and pushing the energy into the nearby tree. The oak shook a little and seemed to sag a bit with the new found weakness and I was feeling a little regretful when a male voice calling us to wait interrupted my remorse.

"Oh my God, another one." Kylie whispered, speaking of the strange boy pulling his short down in front of us.

"Does this mean anything to you?" He said.

"This honestly can't be a coincidence. I just met up with them like ten minutes ago!" I exclaimed. He turned to me, glanced at my neck, trying to look at the X. I turned my head and moved my ponytail.

"What can you do?" He asked.

"I can control energy. As in, all energy. You saw how she looked sick before and now she's fine? Look at that tree." I said, in what I hope was an intimidating voice. I wasn't usually like this, but I've had bad luck with men.

"How about the rest of you?" He said, gesturing to the rest of our group.

I would but, lol, I just posted. :p I think that our "group" should go to sleep then meet you in the forest or something the next morning, because all of us meeting at the same time is kind of dumb unless someone will come up with a reason.

"I manipulate sound. Seeing as Lolli is fully lucid now, I can demonstrate." I flicked my wrist, and the air rippled. The same thunder-sound filled the air and the ground cracked in more than one place. "Name's Kylie, by the way. Yours?"

"Setji. I can accelerate my molecules."

Lolli barked, "Clap twice." Setji did so.

"Ah. So that's what you do."

"Yup, that's it," said Carley #2. Carley #3 scaled a tree, saying, "Our name is Carley." The original Carley smirked a little. The duplicates vanished.

"Well, now that we're all introduced, let's keep moving. I know a place when can stay."

"Where?" Lolli said, producing a bag of candy.

"Why, the park of course!" I said, climbing up a tree. I tested a wide limb. "Dibs on this one." I called, leaning against the trunk. Other members of our group called out where they were one by one. We were all asleep in barely minutes, the sun hiding beneath the horizon.

I focused on my pencil. It was sitting on the table, not moving. I focused, and grabbed it, standing it up on its tip. It stood there, not falling. I was exceptionally good at that. I moved on to a few rocks. I balanced them on top of each other on their tips too. My orphanage teacher looked at me, eyes wide. I looked at her meaningfully. What did she want me to do now? She had caught me balancing a few eggs on top of each other in the kitchen. You know how nuns can be.

Another nun came up from the door way, eyeing the pencil and rock. She was holding more eggs. I sighed, not wanting to do any more. She sat them in front of me, maybe a dozen or so.

"Can you do that with only your mind?" she asked. I sighed again, scrunching my face. I didn't like doing this at all. I focused on the eggs hard, clearing my mind. I opened them again, and forced one egg to stand up strait. Then, lifted another one and sat it on top of the other on, turning my head sideways. I stacked another one on that, then another and another and another till they were all standing on top of each other. I didn't focus anymore, but they stayed like that. It seemed like every time I did this, I got a headache.

"Can you do more?" one of them asked. More of the nuns had come in the room to watch. I sighed, shaking my head. "This is God's work, sisters. This is a sign." I rolled my eyes. She looked at me. "Do it again." My face became confused. Was she telling me what to do?

"No," I said quietly, shaking my head. They all looked at me. I continued to shake my head.

"Kerli, this is a great talent you have, you are God's profit, now you have to obey God." I had enough of her religious blabber. I continued to shake my head, faster and faster. "Yes!" she screamed at me. I stopped, looking at her, eyes wide. I stood, throwing all the eggs at the wall with my mind.

"No!" I screeched. "I don't want to be a profit to your God! I want to be ME! Why can't I be me?!" They all looked frightened. I ran from the room, from the orphanage.

What a memory. I was such a stupid little girl then, maybe thirteen. I wasn't going to obey them then, and I wasn't ever going to. I was a free little girl, and I hated it when people tried to tie me down. I knew that now I slept on a branch in a tree. The benches in the park sounded good at the moment, and I didn't have the danger of falling out, though, if I kept balanced, I couldn't fall. I rolled onto my back, trying to keep comfortable. I drifted to sleep quickly.

Kylie

A man hit my back, hard, with a metal rod. I cried out and fell forward. "Louder. Now." he growled, flipping the switch on the wall. I cried out for him to stop, to give me a moment's rest, but the ground crackled with electricity before I could plead any further. I yowled in pain and crawled to the wall. That was all I could do now, crawl. My legs were too unstable to stand on, my heart beating wildly in an uneven rhythm. I sobbed and pounded my fists against the wall. Where my hands made contact, web like cracks spread out, little shockwaves rippling across the concrete surface.

The scene changed. I was fighting a rival gang who had made fun of my hair and age. I spat out a mouthful of blood and lunged again. A burning, almost acidic pain ripped apart my side. I grabbed my attacker's wrist and broke it; he dropped the knife dripping with my blood. Another three came at me. I yelled as loudly as I could. A shockwave thicker than any other I had produced flew from me, knocking the gang to the ground, unconscious. I swayed, weakened severely by my sudden loss of power, and collapsed a block away in an alley, my hand gripping the gash in my side.

I woke with a start. I rolled over. Below me, a girl was sleeping the bench. There was a dark tattooed x on her neck. My eyes flared open for half a second in realization before I was pulled back into sleep again.

I turned my body over and over in a wild attempt to get into a comfortable position. Lolli snored in the tree on my right, Kaylie and Carley on my left and Setji was on the lower branch of mine.

"What are you doing?" Setji said, spitting out leaves that had fallen from my branch.

"I've just realized that I don't have the secret power to become a squirrel. I can't sleep up here." I whispered back before sliding down from the tree and landing at the base trunk.

"Whatever." He replied and it was only minutes later before he was asleep. I lay back against the tree and prayed that I wouldn't get kidnapped or raped or something while I slept.

I got into my familiar rhythm of stealing small bits of energy from myself at a time and shooting them into bugs or grass. Once I got a bit tired, I stole a huge amount of energy from myself, almost causing myself to pass out, and throwing it into the tree that got Lolli's hangover. I let sleep come to me.

CARLEY

I couldn't sleep were they crazy? I was to hyper. I looked over at Kylie, on the branch below her was a girl i wasn't familiar with. I made a second me and pointed the girl out to her. I nodded, um... she nodded, second me nodded. She walked over quietly and when she reach the girl she went wide eyed. She looked over to me and made an X with her fingers. I nodded and snapped mine. She evaporated, and i skipped over. I tapped the girls shoulder, she groaned sleepily. I tapped it harder, she sat up and looked at me. I must of frightened her because she tried to run off. I made a couple more Me's and we stopped her. I walked up to her and shook her hand. She looked at me like i was crazy.
"I'm Carley, you and me..." I said gesturing between us. "Are very much alike." I pulled my hair away from my neck and turned my head so she could see. With a quick snap of my fingers i made my clones disappear.

I looked at the clear X on her neck. I instinctively touched mine. Carley, huh? She seemed to have an odd talent of making more of...her. I wondered if my power would even fit in with the rest, or if I would be a freak, even among freaks.

"Whats your name?" she asked, breaking my from my revere. I looked up at her.

"Kerli," I said, my Estonian accent in my voice. She nodded. "Whats your power?" I looked away, not really sure how to explain my power. I balanced things, that was for sure, with my mind, and with my hands.

"Um..." I hesitated. "I can, well--" I heard someone move in the trees above us, and I looked up. "You can get sidetracked easily," she said laughing. I smiled, but it disappeared quickly.

"I can balance things sort of. With my mind...or with my hands. Like, if I wanted to make a pencil stand on its tip, I would only have to think the command, nothing more. Or if I chose to use my hands, I'd sit it up, and it wouldn't fall. Which, I guess, means that I can control things with my mind as well." She looked amused that I wasn't showing her this.

"Show me," she tested, taking my thoughts right out of my head. What, was a mind reader now? She looked around, then grabbed a stick, holding it out to me. I sighed. I didn't like having to do this, I still got headaches. But I took it from her with my mind, and stood it up on one end, then didn't focus anymore, wanting the headache to go away. I found it easy to do this if I was mad, I wouldn't get a headache.

She nodded to herself, not at all surprised. So, someone could balance a stick on the ground, whoop, lets celebrate. But that wasn't all I did. I closed my eyes, willing all the leaves and rocks and sticks around my up. Then, I opened my eyes, and made them move around us quickly, making my long white hair and my clothes move. She was barely amazed then.

I made all of the leaves fall, and stuck with the sticks and rocks. I balanced a rock on top of the first stick, then another stick on that, then a rock. Then, all of the unused sticks fell, and the rocks floated around us. I was amusing myself more than showing off. I was still getting a headache, but I was proving something too. I heard as more of them woke up, and I left the rocks floating and my tower of sticks and rocks sitting there while I sat down and concentrated on my head.

I heard someone gasp as the saw the rocks just floating there around me.

CARLEY

I was impressed, how interesting. She looked pained, i shook her shoulder and she stopped. everything fell, 'unbalanced.'
"OK i believe you." I smiled at her. "You should all get some sleep, you all look tired." Kerli gave me the quick up/down look.
"What about you?" She asked. I made a second me appear.
"I won't get lonely. I'm not tired, i promise I'll sleep when i am." She sighed and climbed back onto her branch. I sat beside myself.
"So, how come you have an X on the back of your neck, but i don't?" She asked. My poor clones didn't know much, they were like, stupid versions of me.
"Because when I was taken to the institution, they put it there, so it isn't a biological mark. Just be happy i can make you with clothes." She gave me a goofy smile.
"Ya, we'd never live that down." I slapped myself playfully.
"Oh shut up, silly me. If i were a normal person i'd be crazy! Talking to myself." She smiled.
"And answering, and sometimes you even ask yourself to speak up." I smiled at me, evilly.
"You know what... I've decided I'm tired." Her expression changed to shock, i snapped my fingers and she was gone. I laid at the base of a tree. Smiling myself to sleep.

I was more exhausted than I thought. I had used up all of my energy amusing myself for some reason. Was I the only one that got weak when I used my power? Because Carley didn't seem to be exhausted when she cloned herself the way I was when I lifted something. I laid there fore a moment, taking it all in.

I wasn't alone in life like I thought, which meant I wasn't the only freak. One of two things could come from this. One, I fit in with them, and we find a way to run and hide, and they are my new family and the only reason I live. Or, two, they hate me, and I run off somewhere like usual, and I find something new to do.

That was something I'd grown fairly well at. Running. All my life I had been running, if it had been from crazy nuns in an orphanage, or if it was the simple truth. I didn't want it to be real. I wanted to wake up one day and find that it was a dream. I was still waiting for that day, and, until the day someone proved it wasn't, I would be waiting, running from anything that I didn't like.

I hated running, it was so wrong, but what other choice did I have? Stay and have my world crash down on me? I wasn't the best with emotion, but I knew enough about it to know not to cry in front of someone. I slid down from the tree, hoping none of them saw me. I snuck past the trees, and, once I was far enough away, I fell to my knees, sobbing. I cried because reality was hitting me. I couldn't be that same scared little girl who lied to get everything, and ran away from the truth. I had to change, and I saw that now.

Something tapped my shoulder, i smiled up at second me and muttered to myself.
"I need to learn to control that." I sat up wiping my eyes.
"Yes, yes you do." I gave her a look and snapped my fingers. Now i was awake and lonely. I contemplated making her come back, but i heard someone running. I followed it. When i came to it, i found kerli sobbing, i kneeled down beside her, wrapping my arms around her. She tensed up, but after realising it was me, she relaxed into my hug.
"What's wrong?" I asked, leaning my cheek against her head. Poor little thing.
"Nothing." She sobbed, i took a deep breath.
"You have to stop crying, it wont solve your problems, trust me i know. Breath, deep breaths in and out." She sniffled and snapped up at me.
"I'm not a child." I smiled down at her.
"I know, now are you ready to tell me what's wrong. Or do i have to tickle it out of you." I said, grabbing her rib cage. She squealed like a little kid, that was for certain.

"Stop!" I squealed at her. She didn't stop tickling me, and I pushed against her, almost falling back.

"Tell me whats wrong," she insisted. I had to get her to quite. Laughing wasn't my thing, and this didn't help me any.

"If I tell you, will you let me be alone?" I asked. She pierced her lips, and thought for a moment.

"Would it help?" she asked. I thought of a hundred ways it would help. I'd be able to clear my mind, for one. I wouldn't be bothering anyone, and I wouldn't be in a grumpy mood later, so, yes, it would help. I nodded, and she stopped. I was quiet for a moment, choosing my words. "Well?" she grumbled impatiently.

"OK, well, all of my life, I've been running...from reality. I've been running from what I am. When I was little, I was in this orphanage, and the nuns there had forced me to practice my power, saying it was "God's command", but I ran away from it. I ran away from the orphanage, and everything they had taught me--my manners, my religion, my abilities to do right and wrong. I know you're thinking "what does this have to do with anything," but the point is, it doesn't and I'm confused, and I've always been alone on the decision. Now, I found others like me, and it just mad me realize that I can't run all my life, that I have to stop and face reality, and I'm not sure if I'm ready for that yet." I wasn't sure which parts of that were lies, and which were the truth, but I had completely stopped the laughing between us. She simply nodded, thinking no doubt.

I wondered if any of it was a lie. I was lost, and I did want someone to help me through it, and I didn't want to be alone. So was any of it a lie? No, if you look at it, it says I'm just a girl who's still figuring life out, and I'm being thrown obstacles that I can't dodge anymore, and I'm going to have to face them, and I'm confused about it, and I'm scared to go at it alone. No lie there.

"Running is never the answer, because you find out you run out of places to hide." She looked up at me confused. "I've been running for a while to, and it always seems to find me." I looked away. I hated becoming upset, it killed the mood. "So you ready to go back and sleep?" We can't stay around here, the people will still be looking for us. I gave her another hug and stood up. Offering her my hand. She took it and i helped her up.
"Thanks, you tired yet or are you going to talk to yourself again?" I giggle sarcastically.
"I'm tired and we'll be on the move again. So we should get some sleep." I smiled at her.
