New Independence Day – April 23rd 2076
After fifty years of persecution under the cruel dictatorship of President Blair, a revolution has succeeded. The people of the New United Nations of the World (formerly known as North America) rejoice in their freedom. In the old capital, Washington DC, there are nonstop parties in the streets for weeks.

The continent of North America has banded together, forming the New United Nations of the World, in order to prevent an atrocity such as Blair from ever taking power again. The future for the New United Nations of the World is promising, and there is a massive influx of immigration to the continent from all over the world. People everywhere want to be a part of this new government.

Instatement Day – June 2nd 2076
In place of the dictatorship of Blair, an oligarchy government is formed. The power of the super-nation is placed in the hands of a board of ten men known purely as The Board. The people of the New United Nations of the World are in a frenzy for these men. The new government is promising and virtuous. It is the dawn of a new era for North America.

Legislation Day – August 12th 2076
Since the instatement of the new officials, the government slowly gained control. On this day, August 12th, The Board is passing a bundle of new legislation that will set the New United Nations of the World on the path to greatness. Every television on the continent is set to the government sponsored channel; every eye is focused on The Board as they announce the new laws to be passed.

And slowly, as the program runs, every resident of the New United Nations of the World is running from their television sets, packing everything they own, and making a wild last-ditch effort to escape. But they’re too late. All airports, train stations, docks, even bus depots have been handed to the government and new law enforcement officers guard the doors, prepared to shoot down anyone who tries to go against them.

The New Legislation:
-All government power is to be placed solely in the hands of The Board.
-All immigration to and from the New United Nations of the World is shut down, and all means of exiting the continent are closed to the public.
-All citizens deemed unfit will be placed in federal correction institutions until there are stable enough to handle mainstream society.
-All children will be educated in government sponsored facilities.
-All males over the age of eighteen will be placed in special training facilities for government and/or military training.
-Anyone who denies these laws, or any laws put in place by The Board will be cruelly and immediately executed.
This story takes place in the Erie Correctional Institution, a facility filled with citizen’s deemed unfit for mainstream society. It is located in the middle of Lake Erie, on a metal rigging half a mile over the water.

The people there used to be the best, the brightest, the strongest, the most willful citizens of North America. In order to prevent any future uprising, The Board has placed all of those they suspect intelligent or powerful enough to lead the super-nation against them in these facilities scattered across the continent. Once there, they are injected with a substance that makes them believe they are mentally unwell. The residents are unaware of the falseness of the illness, and fully believe they deserve to be placed in these institutions.

Little do they know, a cure exists. And it’s closer than you would think.

Name: Kai Lore (pronounced k+eye)

Age: 21

Gender: Male

Illness: Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) coupled with Insomnia and the occasional Hallucination (side effects of the PTSD)

Reason for Institutionalization: Kai is (or was) the heir to Lore Industries, a company specializing in the design and manufacturing of advanced weapons. His family was rich and influential until the new government came to power, after which Kai's father, the CEO, stopped making weapons directly for the government and military. Kai and his family were then transported to different institutions.

Appearance

Personality: Kai was a level-headed and easy-going young man. He was intelligent - not a genius, but smarter than your average citizen. He took each day in stride, never planning more than a few days ahead, and was, for all intents and purposes, happy. He was friendly and open and never afraid to do as he pleased, though he did not take advantage of his family's status.

Other: The hallucinations and images he sees from the PSTD are that of his house caught on fire. This did in fact happen in his life, when he was fifteen, though everyone was safe and there was only minimal damage done. Now, however, with the help of the injection he received upon arrival at the institution, he sees the house completely engulfed in flames and hears the screams of his mother and younger sister as they are caught inside. The hallucinations are, more often than not, their charred bodies haunting him, seeking an 'escape from the heat'.

Save me a spot? :)

EDIT: Profile posted.

Name: Natalie Winters

Age: 28

Gender: Female

Illness: Anti-social (Read. Because anti-social is probably not what you think it is) Personality Disorder and Narcissistic Personality Disorder

Reason for institutionalization: (what made the government put them there. Are they intelligent? Creative? Powerful? Please be specific.) Natalie was an American icon despite being the distant relative of President Blair. Because she is his relative, she had political sway, and, being a trendsetter, she had plenty of rich, powerful friends. She herself was the daughter of the owner of a major weapons company that develops new technology for the country's defense. Recently, her father died and she took over. She practically defined society - she was past celebrity status and the public was moved to believe whatever she believed. The Board simply couldn't risk someone so powerful.

Appearance: Jet black hair, soulful hazel eyes and a smile on her lips - usually.

Spoiler
Image

Personality: Natalie used to be the most helpful person in the world - she was often helping other people out and everything. Right now she's still prone to helping other people out, but she will now hold it over your head. She's also extremely vain and won't suffer other people. Sure she's pretty, but this girl thinks she's some goddess. She is extremely fastidious about her appearance and won't let anything mar her clothes or her skin. She can never resist looking at a mirror.

Other: She still has a soft spot for really old people and will listen to only them, so her "nurses" are two old coots and her doctor is an aged but wizened man who often dotes on her. She is therefore indulged when she asks for new clothes and magazines with which to entertain herself.

Spot saver.
This is one little planet in one tiny solar system in a galaxy that’s barely out of its diapers. I’m old, Dean. Very old. So I invite you to contemplate how insignificant I find you.

Name: Joe Smith (That's the name he goes by. Really he is Daniel Hubert, a very well known soldier and an instigator of the rebellion.)
Age: 32
Gender: Male
Illness: Dissociative Identity Disorder: More commonly known as split personality disorder, Daniel switches between several very different personalities, each with their own background and beliefs.
Reason for institutionalization: Daniel Hubert was a high member of the rebellion and destined for great rewards. When the board took over and started creating the institutions, they thought Daniel a corruptible member. They gave him an honoured place as head of one of the institutions where he was to take on the name Joe Smith. At first he didn't know that anything was wrong and scorned the position he'd been given and considered his new identity a joke. How was a soldier supposed to run a mental health clinic? It seemed like insanity. Then his brain started thinking. He studied books and spent time with the patients, diagnosing and comparing. He got overly suspicious so the board let him in on their plans and offered him the choice. He could work knowing the truth or he could inject himself with a mental illness and be sent to one of the other institutions as Joe Smith. Daniel thought he was clever enough to beat them. He selected DID, injected himself and somehow believed he'd be able to crack the system from the inside. That of course didn't work. Afterall, who believes a mad-man?
Appearance: Dishevelled black hair, dark grey eyes that always have bags around them and have a haunted look in their depths. Calloused hands from all his years training at the sword. Tall with broad shoulders, still in reasonable shape.
Personality:
Daniel Hubert: One of his personalities is himself but he only recalls his time as a soldier and the rebellion clearly. After that all he's sure of is that his friends betrayed him. He exercises and shouts at people or complains. Of course everyone thinks he's crazy because Daniel Hubert was made captain of the army and killed very soon after, defending the new regime.
Joe Smith: This is considered Daniel's true personality. He's a reasonably intelligent, humble man who used to be head of one of the other institutions. The stress got the better of him and he developed a mental illness of his own. He doesn't realise the illness is fake and is quite happy to be where he is.
Crazy Joe: There's no other name for his third personality. He's insane. Mad. Completely! Crazy Joe sees conspiracys everwhere, he sneaks around alternating between being quiet and shouting his thoughts to everyone. He even sometimes claims that their illnesses are fake. His madness knows no bounds.
