Coming Storm

Coming Storm is one of my favorites! hope you like it.

Good photograph. Unlike literary pieces, writing a review for a photograph is significantly more difficult as it is largely based on a question of taste and less on the layout, such as following the 1/3 rule.

You did a very good job combining two elements, light and dark, to portray a coming storm. The setting sun, can be used to metaphorically describe the rise of darkness, via those cumulus clouds to the left. Overall I would rate this photo a solid 3.5 out of 5 in terms of what it portrays and the title or context, you described it as.

Hey there.

The biggest problem with this picture is that there is too much. Too much contrast, too many subjects, etc.

In this, you have the sunset, clouds, tree line, sky and a lens flare. Your viewer's eye is just dragged in so many different directions, trying to absorb all of this at once when you look away you don't recall what it looks like.

You want to have one focus, maybe two. That's where you get the best shots. So, in this you probably would of wanted to focus on either the sunset, the clouds, or the treeline. Not all three.

As for the contrast, the treeline is almost black, the sun is very bright red, and the clouds are grey. It creates a mix of colour tones and themes that just doesn't benefit the picture at all. The sun's colour distracts from the lightness of the clouds, and your eye which is absorbing the colour is torn away by the blackness of the trees. And again you leave having interpreted and having absorbed nothing. Next time you take a picture, picking one focus will allow the colour to stick on that, having other colours less in focus just add a nice effect, almost like a background.

You must live in a lovely place for this kind of sunset.
