poets don't really have a point:
they talk about the curves of lily stems
and those of the women they have filled.
with love-thoughts and strummed tunes
about the things deathless, others not.
they are the artists who paint bluebells
and spring rains on the church steps with terms.
bitter words that web themselves together in patterns.
they are the gardeners of empty thoughts
and fractured hearts. those things that grow like apples,
that are picked too late and taste too sweet.
poets are the hopeless wish-makers,
like candles sitting in dark standing only as a reminder
of what could be.
