Was intended for Rosey Unicorn's Beginnings of Magic contest, but it wound up being more of "this is what magic is" rather than "this is where magic begins". *sadness*
It's a bit rough, but I like it so far.
---
It
starts with the
unknown and ends
with the known.
It is the nexus of ignorance
and awareness,
of intolerance and
understanding.
It is the gray world
between sleep
and waking,
life and
death.
It
starts with
the realization of
possibilities and dreams, and ends
with the accomplishment of
the tasks thus conceived.
It lives for the moment
when all becomes clear.
It sleeps when
that moment
is passed.
It
falls
between
truth
and illusion,
learning and
lying.
It
calls to
the sailors and
wanderers,
lovers and
children.
It
lies at
the heart
of art –
creativity.
And it is magic.
