Hey all, my name's Lars and I'm a 1st-year university student from New Zealand. I just found this site through facebook and decided to join because I really enjoy writing (probably not unlike everybody else here). Unfortunately I don't get a lot of time for writing nowadays (I'm studying commerce/law) but my thinking is that signing myself up to this website will remind me to make time. Among the writers I admire are Asimov, Tolkien (yeah, I'm a bit of a nerd), Shakespeare (esp. Othello and The Merchant of Venice) and Virgil (but not so much Homer). I try to make my own writings as meaningful as I can, so I tend to write stories that deal with real world issues. Sometimes I'd write my story in a couple of genres and pick the one that works best. Most of my best writing is fantasy, though.
Hey Larz, welcome to YWS! Well on YWS, you don't just post your own things up, you get to review as well! I would love to see one of your stories. Do yo know how to post up stories? If you don't, Just Private Message (PM) me. Whose your most FAVOURITE author? Do you write poetry? Apples or Bananas?
Again, welcome to YWS! And if you have any more questions like I said, PM me!

Someone told me there's a girl out there, with love in her eyes and flowers, in her hair.
First of all, welcome to YWS! Being a college student might be hard or busy kind of thing but I really salute you 'cause you still find time to spend it through writing stories! That's the spirit! Hope you enjoy being a member here and posts stuff that you really want others to read and critique it.
Please don't hesitate to PM me if you have questions.

Hey, thanks for the welcome! I wish I had a favorite author to name. My favorite book right now is probably The Great Gatsby, but from what I've read of Fitzgerald's other works they're not that great. I have tried writing poetry but I'm not very good at it. Poetry is much too structured for me, I have trouble communicating a given idea when I have to fit it into a given structure. But I really enjoy reading poetry - if I had to pick a favorite, probably The Song of the Shirt by Thomas Hood. I think critiquing is just what I'll do for a while, or at least until I finish typing up some of my more recent stories. Thanks again, I'll be sure to PM you guys if any issues crop up!
Welcome to the site Lars, nice to meet you. So you like Asmivo, Tolkien and Shakespeare me too, esp. Asmivo and I'm also a fan of Fantasy- though I prefer horror and Romance. Anyways if you need any help finding things ask me or anyone else familiar with the site or need a critique, we'll be happy to help you.

Welcome to YWS! I'm a 1st-year Univ student and I've hardly finished any novels. They're all stuck somewhere. I've just read one Asimov, but I really loved it.
Hope you have fun around here.
