Hey Scarlett! First off, let me say that I'm impressed by painting in general. It's ridiculously difficult to do well, and I think it's sort of becoming a lost art in our age of computer-generated artwork. I'm not a big fan of the composition (background + tree centered at the bottom = painting), but the details of the branches and the trunk are beautiful. The colors, especially, are gorgeous.

i have a huge respect for this piece, as i have always been quite the left-handed troll with a paint brush. the detail is amazing, and you've pulled off the effect of depth very well. this is pushing your shadow skills to the maximum with the trunk. the leaves...wow, i feel like i'll see individual ones if i look close enough! A+ mate

I love how all the leaves are flying around but the tree seems so still, lovely
Just one question: In the close-up of the picture, are those little red blotches in the tree leaves or butterflies?

I was completely intrigued by your piece, and spent, like, a full 7 minutes just staring at it, and examining the detail and beauty. You've got an amazing gift for both art and writing- a rare gift.

I advise only a few things: Though your painting is simple yet elegant, try dressing it up a bit, by adding a shadow on the ground, adding a body of water, or changing the scenery to a sunset.

This would really pinpoint the beautiful details in which you have described in this piece. Keep on painting, posting, and writing!

Hi there!
So. This is beautiful. Personally, I'm a bit of a failure with paint, which is part of the reason why I appreciate this so much.
I love the detail and the color choices, especially in the trunk. The way it twists is so eye-catching and intriguing.
The one thing I don't like about it is that the trunk just kind of ends at the bottom there; no roots, no ground, nothing. All we have here is a floating tree that looks just a little out of place. I agree with elfwriter; add some scenery, add a shadow.

Thanks guys. I need to fiddle with the botttom of the trunk a bit. Blend it in with the background. Although, the background is meant to be the way it is. Australian desert, yes? This is why there's nothing in the background...

It's basically semi-autumn colours so yes, the red is leaves.

Aw, thanks. How do I sit there and paint everything so slowly in by layer? To be honest, it wasn't all slow. I did the background in just one afternoon of about two hours while out at my Gran's farm. Then I added the black trunk another day in only about an hour, and so on. The leaves were the hardest...took me hours, far more than one afternoon, to get it right. I don't know why, but art comes fairly easily to me...

You are a truly talented artist,
my only critism is that the position of the tree could be better,
the painting could look better if the tree was to either side< but thats just a matter of opinion

This is absolutely beautiful! The detail is exquisite, the leaves are light and almost feathery looking, and I want to reach out and touch them ;-D It looks much more polished from up close, where you can see the detail, and I think it would be good if you tried to show the carefulness a little more obviously, so it could be seen when viewing the painting as a whole. Apart from that it's absoultely wonderful!

Put simply: I love it. Looking at it, the trunk of the trees appears slightly celtic in style which kind of threw me at first but on closer inspection the effect is wonderful. I have to agree that when you're painting or writting or reading or whatever it seems as no time passes at all or you're done a lot quicker than you originally thought, happens to me all the time. The austrailian desert background I find is very effective because it creates a starct contrast to the tree making it stand out more, although something needs to at the bottom. The floating tree is a little distracting... Maybe you for the City of Secrets SB you could do some artwork of the city, places like the Temple and the Market, even the Palace. Just an idea.
