Hello everyone, this is Squirrely. I joined YWS because Ester Sylvester kept bugging me too. But judging from her shocked reaction when I made a reference to one of the chapters she had posted today (*gasp* "You didn't!"), she wasn't expecting me to.
I'm 18 and I live in Indiana. Not much around me but corn field; unless you look behind our yard, that's an alfalfa field. Spelling is my least favorite thing in the world, but my biggest problem as a writer is keeping with one storyline. lastly, I hope to post part of a short story soon.

*Gasp!* You joined!

Hello Squirrely, and welcome to YWS! I most certainly did not bug you to get an account here, but I am glad you joined anyway. I'm sure you'll find everything here helpful on your path to become a better writer. If you have any questions, just PM me. (Private Message, if you didn't know.)

Here's a tip to get reviews for your pieces: Review at least twice for every item you post. That way, everyone gets a review. Don't judge my math, you!

Anyway, welcome! I hope you'll grow to love the site as I have, and I hope you post something soon!
It's writing prompt week on my blog a very random pickle!:

Hehe, welcome, Squirrely! I'm glad you have such intelligent friends around you that they would advise you to join YWS! ^_^

So, do you write only short stories? I mean, do you write any poems or script fragments or anything like that? Also, what genre of story do you write? What's the one that you're working on now about?

Other than writing-focused questions, I'd like to ask what you want to be when you 'grow up' and what your favorite colors and foods are! ^_^ Hehe~

Feel free to PM me any time you have a question. All the members in green are either moderators or junior mods and we'd all be more than happy to help you out if you get lost or confused! Feel free to let me know once you post some of your work and I'd gladly review it for you, too! ^_^

Corn fields all around... spooky.

Sorry, corn fields freak me out. We don't have them over here so the only reference I have is Children of the Corn (which I haven't even seen but this lady told me it was really scary. Overactive imagination).

Enough of that. Do you do an outline before you write? I find that helps me to stick to one storyline (even though it's painful to do).
Q: Where do you go to buy shoes?

A: At the shoez canal, lol.

Thanks for all the welcomes! Ester, I tend to be good at math, I just chose not to do it. So I find nothing wrong with yours. ^_^ I don't only write short stories. Mostly I write novels, or try to at least, which is the problem. I have tried using a outline, I wrote it out but when I started writing again I quickly abandoned it. Thanks for the suggestion though. Mostly I write fantasy, science fiction, or the two of them mixed. The story I'm working on now is about two brothers that join opposite sides in a war. Its set in a kind of medieval setting; I haven't worked much on the setting, mostly character development.

After I go to collage, I want to be a architect, artist, and an author (of course). As far as colors and foods go I don't discernment between them; I like them all. With some exceptions, like brown rice and pink. And Hippie, corn fields have nothing on were I was born.

I like the sound of that story you're working on now. If you put it up feel free to ask me for a review.

Care to elaborate on how your birthplace is scarier than a cornfield?

Kalamazoo is an epic name.

Welcome to YWS, squirrely! I'm Areida, and I'm from a small town too, so I sympathize. My small town is in Texas, though, so we have pine trees and chickens instead of corn fields. I live in New York now, and all we've got is mountains and stuff. Boo.

I really like the squirrel in your avatar, by the way. I don't think I've ever seen an all-black squirrel like that. XD

We started raising chickens this year. Right now they're only two, two and a half weeks old. Thanks again for the warm reception. I have the first part of my story up, here.

In the winter months, gale storms in Svalbard can reach wind speeds of 130 km/h. Accompanied by or following snowfall, such storms can reduce visibility dramatically, more so in the winter months of the polar night. During these storms, travel is not advised.
