This is a writing prompt from last year's NaNo build-up.

Probably some background info is needed for this to make sense...
Jet and Athena are both fugitives(ish) who live with Serra and Salmus. S and S are twins. Rell somehow got caught up in this because he suspects his brother was kidnapped by J and A's ex-gang, and also Jet won't let him leave because she thinks he is a spy from the ex-gang. J and A left the gang cause the old leader was killed and the person who took his place is a murderous scary person.
[Hopefully this is vaguely clear and is enough info for the following to make sense]
*tada*

Cookies

The four teens sat around the table, eys fixated on the solitary cookie that lay on a plate in the middle of the table.
"It's mine," Jet murmured in a trance-like state, hand reaching out slowly.
"I own the house. My cookie." Serra whispered, gaze travelling slowly upwards to glare at Jet, who's hand returned reluctantly to her side.
Salmus frowned in realisation. "I own the house too! We have equal claim to the cookie!"
Serra rolled her eyes. "Only if you weren't such a pansy. It's. My. Cookie."
"I bought them! I don't care if you own the house! It's mine!" Jet cried in frustration, giving both twins a furious glare.
There was a silent battle of wills as the three of them each attempted to stare the others down, expressions of grim determination visible on each of their faces. Suddenly a new noise filled the silence.
"Want... cookie..." The twins and Jet turned their attention to Athena, who had seemingly spotted an opening and was now nearing the plate with a dreamy expression on her face. As she began to pick it up, Serra's eyes narrowed. "Don't even think about it."
Athena's eyes flickered upwards for a second, her hand still closing around the coveted item of food.
There was another tense silence.
"I think," Salmus cleared his throat tersely, "that you should put that back. Now."
Athena stared back stubbornly, still lifting the cookie closer to her face.
"Drop it, Athena," Jet growled quietly, her posture tensing as she raised herself slightly from her seat, ready to pounce.
As it was held tighter and more defiantly in Athena's hand, the other three occupants of the table leapt up in unison, sending both girl, table and cookie flying.
~
On the sofa behind them, Rell blinked his eyes open as something small and hard hit him on the head before bouncing onto his stomach. He frowned, sitting up, then stared at the baked product with a degree of suspicion. This quickly faded as he picked up the cookie, his sleep-dazed mind oblivious to the cookie-related shouting from nearby. He happily munched on it, licking crumbs from his fingers, then settled back down on the sofa, ready for further sleep.
"Where'd the cookie go?" Jet demanded after a few seconds.
Rell gulped.

~

It's quite short, but I hope you like it anyways!
Elizabeth: "There will come a moment when you will have a chance to show it. To do the right thing."
Jack: "I love those moments. I like to wave at them as they pass by."

Your story's short but sweet! =3
Your characters are lively and interesting; your style worked great with the subject matter. :3

The only thing I wasn't so keen on was that, narrating, you used a lot of long sentences in a similar structure; you could have brought more variety with shorter ones to balance it out.

A bit of nitpicking:
The four teens sat around the table, eys fixated on the solitary cookie that lay on a plate in the middle of the table.

Typo of 'eyes' there. Also, maybe you could rephrase the sentence a little so the word 'table' isn't repeated?

whose hand returned reluctantly to her side.

Other than that, great story - I enjoyed reading it! :)
... Unless it's a farm.

For something so short, I didn't really think it needed that much background as you gave us - unless the whole thing is part of the novel, of course, in which case it's perfectly fine :D.

On the whole, I found the incident rather amusing, and, unfortunately was not surprised by the ending at alll - somehow I knew that'd happen. But then again, there's only two outcomes possible aren't there? Number one is that they all decide to be nice to each other, and get a quarter each - which is OBVIOUSLY not going to happen. Number two is that they fight - which happens - and end up 'destroying' the prize in the process. Well...didn't exactly destroy it, but I felt almost cheated out of the ending, actually.

I feel it'd be more effective if the kids DID notice that the cookie was eating by Rell, and the last line was something along the ines of them all charging at him en masse, even though he's already swallowed it. This would be a funny, and leave-the-reader-wondering-at-what-happened kind of ending, too.

Oh no, I’m sorry, you’re under the impression that here on YWS we *help* writers instead of just feeding their gremlin tendencies.
