Utopia

We had utopia in our hands. Purified, cleansed society, finally attained through the sacrifice of science and warfare. The 2036 American election brought in a bold visionary, Judas Il Deo, to power over their country. The following year, South and Central America coincided with the states, unifying the western hemisphere.

The success of such a massive unison tugged at the interests of the Eastern world. One by one, nations began to pledge their allegiance to the new world order, but no one could figure out why.

At last, with such a grand alliance formed, international terrorism fell to a violent end as the burrows and caverns of their operations were decimated. The world, at last, was at peace.

Pontiff Il Deo grasped the world warmly in his arms and revolutionized the world’s philosophy. His take-- perceptive dominance-- established a society wherein no religion was practiced; no one felt any need for diversion from the ordinary.

But Judas Il Deo could not prevent what seemed to be cast from the heavens.

The new world’s Lord did not survive the apocalypse.

___

The Crimson Tide

The end of the world didn’t come in a flaring meteor, a seismic cataclysm, or a nuclear holocaust.

Slowly, without notice, the earth began to overheat in a high-pressure sphere. The creatures living in the oceans could no longer survive the extreme climate, and one by one by thousand by million, they all died, staining the oceans a ghastly crimson red.

And all those fools, those optimists, they drank their own blood.

As the Crimson Tide crisis rose to high notice, the unity that had become so strong among humanity ripped apart at the seams, segmenting the world into nations, then factions, and finally tribes. When survivors began to dwindle, four major camps established their own society, extricating all means necessary for survival.

Without water, without crops, without fertile soil, the earth became red and violent.

____

Peace to His Grave

At the beginning of the crisis, the world turned to their leaders for help, especially Pontiff Judas Il Deo. Without hesitation, he laid out a plan that would draw upon the farthest reaches of mankind’s power to attain drinkable water from any possible source. Aerospace engineering was once again licensed, fractioning off the higher intelligences to obtain water from the heavens.

Plants opened up along shorelines to filtrate and purify the Bloody Sea, forcing the unskilled laborers to hard work with little reward.

As desperation grew, tension grew; as tension solidified, a marksman drew a blood-drenched arrow into a hand-woven bow and fired it into the heart of the world’s only hope.

The world instantly descended into hell.

____

Factions:

Lisbon: Lisbon’s colony is widely known as the shining city on the Red Field. Located in southern Spain, Lisbon’s engineers harnessed their financial prowess and engineering skills to creating high-efficiency water purification systems that run along their coastline. Lisbon has one of the highest populations, but also the poorest living conditions, given its potential.

Cassadaga: Located in Old-World Florida, USA. Cassadaga is home to the most spiritual leaders in the post-apocalyptic world. Nomads wander to this location for its tales of signs and wonders and miracles. Others come for the tales of witchcraft and free-reign society where robbery and double-crossing run rampant. Once a proud religious society has fallen to the murk-land of crime and voodoo. The high reliance on the supernatural in this one location caused something peculiar to happen, rendering visions of a separate world to those who prayed in the Black Hall, one of the greatest remaining man-made temples on earth. (*)

Cairo: The only faction in what once was Africa, Cairo’s society has gained notoriety for being a place to die. The once radiant sands of the Egyptian desert are now drenched in blood, marked with tombstones of fallen families. As morbid as Cairo has become, it has one of the largest surviving populations in its main facility: “The Chantry,” which is an underground city built around a grand cathedral where mass funerals are held in ancient Egyptian custom.

Melbourne: One of the dwindling societies in the southern hemisphere, the Melbourne colony houses the purest of available water due to its connection to space and the moon. Unlike the other societies, Melbourne named a queen over their civilization, Lua Rain. Her beauty and charm captivated her public, and her genuine lust for life has driven Melbourne further than most factions, though at the cost of their connections with the others.

Patagonia: Located on the southernmost tip of the western world, Patagonia is an abandoned faction with no means of survival available to nomads. However, the quick abandonment of Patagonia left enough rations in food and drinking water to suffice a small troop for a year. Though, could one survive so long alone?

____

The Black Hall

Priests and druids from across the world have entered the Black Hall in the Cassadaga colony, only not to return. Rumors stemming from the denizens of the colony claim that within the Black Hall rests a passageway to the ‘next world,’ a new Earth created by the gods in light of the disaster. Those who claim to have seen this world marvel at its beauty and untamed wildness. In fear of such disasters, the gods rendered the new earth without the color red, and no water is touched by human hands.

____

The Evolution of Species

To adapt, humans with the ability began to transmogrify their DNA to create sub-species of humans less reliant on water and food and more reliant on heat and air. Using animalistic DNA, the humans began creating their own species, unique to their own traits.

____

Free-Reign World of the Red Field

Each participant (there is no limit on who can join, how many can join, or how many characters you can make) may create their own species of transmogrified human. Your species must come with its own strengths and weaknesses, preferences, needs, and habitat. As of right now, there is no set plot in order, nor will there be until there is a world established within the storybook. Please post a profile before beginning any story. Profile outlines should be as follows:

____________________________________________________________

Name:

Gender:

Species Name:
-Dominant Species: (should be human)
-Subordinate Species:

Advantages:

Disadvantages:

Conviction: (The options here are nearly endless, but listed below are some exmaples)

Hero- Obviously, you are one who feels the conviction to help others and save the world. However, you are a person with justifiable constraint and refuse to help if the world cannot be helped. You whole-heartedly believe in the revival of the world and those around you look up to you for it. You're their savior. You're their only hope.

Bandit- You rely on the success of others to thrive, resorting to robbery when seemingly necessary. You are the society's 'bad guy' and your life is surrounded by the pain and suffering of others. Your survival and success are the only things important to you, and you look out for your own. After all, who else would?

Revolutionary-You are a great mind with a grand vision to save the world. Your abilities aren't held in your will to fight or your strength of survival, but in your voice and charisma. After all, only you can save the world. Your greatest fear is vigilante justice, and your campaigns are taken greatly off-guard by Liberations, but you must succeed in your quest to control save the world.

Liberator-Like a hero, you thirst for justice and live to help others. However, unlike a hero, you feel no constraint to power and are not afraid to use force if necessary. After all, this is the apocalypse, and you and your family must survive. Your primary goals will be Liberation Missions, in which you declare yourselve the savior of a faction and go in (with or without accompanying forces) and take out the bad guys.

Vigilante- You are the shadow cast by the light shown in the darkness. Your strong sense of justice and duty come at a great price of the affection of those around you. But you don't need affection-- your only love is the city you live to protect. Bandits and robber-barrons must be taken out, and organized crime is the ultimate sin. However, you have suspicions regarding everyone, even the revolutionary speakers. They must have an agenda, right?

You are to decide your conviction based on what your character believes in. For example, a zealot from Cassadaga may feel the order of his god to Liberate the darkness. An optimist from Melbourne may see the fate of the world in her own hands. It's up to you, and interventions happen. Changing sides is like changing clothes, if you're good at fooling yourself.

World: (Primal Earth or the Black Hall*)

Faction: (if none, choose Nomad)

History:

Personality:

ETC:

____________________________________________________________

*If from the black hall, you are allowed to create your own mythology behind your character(s). This means that you could be completely human, or a species completely unique to the Black Hall World. If you ARE from the Black Hall world, then your point of origin will basically be Cassadaga.

Plot Meter

For a bit of plot-organization, this is the system that I'm asking to incorporate:

Once you develop a plot structure for your particular party/faction, you will set up what I'm deeming a Plot Meter. The plot meter will take structure in the storybook like this:

(1) (2) (3) (4) (5)

Each plot you deveop will be broken into segments that I call Plot Points. It will be incorporated into your Time Stamp and Location before each post. However, the entire meter will not show up during a post. Only the designated point that you reach. Sub-points exist as well, and are incorporated by using decimals. e.g. (1.4)

This system is more of a way to pace yourself and your plot than for me to track during posts. Basically, it's a way to better your plot development skills.

An example of a header stamp including the plot meter and plot name:

John Doe, Cairo Cemetary | "Where She Rests" (3.7)
______1___________2______________3______4______

1.) Your name
2.) Your location
3.) Plot/Chapter name (make it catchy and relevant)
4.) Plot meter status

I'm asking that no plot be less than 5 major points long. If it's a really great plot and you hit a snag somewhere, feel free to deviate from the guidelines, but don't make it a habit.

Name: Marlena "Lena" Godridge

Gender: female

Species Name:
-Dominant Species: Human
-Subordinate Species: Patagonian. The remaining inhabitants of the colony have noticed slight genetic mutations in themselves. They're pale, thin, and have a chalky pallor to their skin. Their eyes have dark circles around them, and their hair is thin and dull.

Advantages: They have adapted to survive on minimal food and water, and only have to eat about one good meal per day.

Disadvantages: They don't have enough energy to do strenuous activities for long periods of time.

Conviction: Revolutionary. Lena is descended from many deemed "holy men" and thinks it her duty to travel to Cassagada and do something about the decline in holy responsibility.

World: Primal Earth

Faction: Patagonia

History: Lena always lived in Patagonia. She was told stories all her life of being a descendant of holy men. She believes she is connected to the gods, and could be a holy person herself. She's been contemplating leaving Patagonia to seek out Cassagada for several years now.

Personality: She is bright, and generally happy. Her sense of moral justice is highly developed, and it aids her in being a respected member of her society. She prides herself in her fairness and her love for life.

ETC:

I'm a little unsure about the plot points...so I'll get back on that. I hope I did the rest of it right.

Could you start a DT so we can discuss the plot? Otherwise they might not interlink very well :)

I'm a little bit confused - would the MCs be trying to restore stability to the world? [on a general note, obviously some will be out for themselves..]

My general purpose with this was to create a functioning world where those who wished to play could create their own stories... With or without my interaction. I'll get a DT thread up as soon as is convenient, though.

[Name:]
Dahlia Morgan

[Gender:]
Female

[Species Name:]
-Dominant Species: Human
-Subordinate Species: Hyena

[Advantages:]
Dahlia's hyena transmogrification was developed for the purpose of allowing her to feed on any living being without fear or remorse. The hyena DNA within her also has extraordinarily heightened her senses of smell and sight. Her finger nails are curved and sharp to rend through flesh, and her frightening canine fangs aid in the task.

[Disadvantages:]
Due to having primal instincts and urges of a hyena, Dahlia is almost constantly hungry. If kept from feeding on others, she will likely start to gnaw on her own arm. She also has frequent bouts of uncontrollable giggling.

[Conviction:]
Murderer/Scavenger

[Faction:]
None (Nomad)

[History (Full):]
Dahlia Morgan was once a very happy girl, excited to be starting her career in genetic research. Because she graduated with such outstanding grades in college, she was accepted to work in a lab in a remote area in Florida developing advanced medicine alongside her father, Nikolai Morgan, whom was a geneticist famous for developing many groundbreaking medicines and vaccines.

As the world joined into a grand alliance, the revolutionary medicines of the father/daughter team became more popular throughout the world, and thus rid the world of many widespread, previously-incurable diseases and sicknesses. Soon enough, the world fell into turmoil as it's climate suddenly became comparable to that of Hell itself. In a period of just a few years, millions of people died from various ailments brought about by the heat and pressure of the earth, the world was becoming a dessicated red wasteland, and the necessities of life such as food and water were becoming scarce.

Prof. Nikolai worked tirelessly to discover an answer to the survival of mankind, isolating himself from everyone, including his daughter. Dahlia watched helplessly as everyone around her began to die. Nobody could survive in this remote town, away from civilization as it is. After eight months, Prof. Nikolai died from exhaustion while doing vigorous, nonstop research. Dahlia started to feel the effects of the drought and famine. Desperate for a solution, she studied her father's research notes and materials, finding them to be research about the splicing of animal DNA to humans' for the purpose of humans developing survival traits of an animal. There were even vials of various animal blood on a desk. She thought it was crazy at first, but as she grew more tired and hungry, she began to study more into the theory of DNA transmogrification.

At the peak of her suffering, she knew she had to do something to keep herself alive. She decided she would have to alter her DNA quickly. Too exhausted to travel miles away to civilization, she began to observe what possible food sources were left in the settlement. Nothing. Nothing left but sickly people. That, she reluctantly decided, would have to be her means of survival. She used the DNA of an animal that she knew would be completely fine with eating any living thing, sick or otherwise: a hyena. Following the plans designed by her father, she created a formula that would instantly fuse her DNA with that of a hyena. Since the day she injected herself with the formula, she has murdered and fed upon the few other survivors in that town, along with a few others along the way as she traveled back towards the city. With her strength restored, she doesn't have as intense an urge to feed, but she has developed other noticeable traits of a hyena.

[Personality:]
After the first week of having transmogrified DNA, Dahlia's senseless, impulsive hunger has subsided, allowing her to almost function normally. Dahlia is highly intelligent and clever. She is very childish with a strange sense of humor that became much more twisted after the incident. Sometimes, if she's being unusually nice to someone, she is "playing with her food." Also, she has become a very paranoid individual.

[Etc.:]
Alright, here it is. Now, I'm just waiting for a name and description of a city (the one Dahlia is traveling towards). I might just start posting with information introducing the character and giving "prequel" events. It'd be cool if everyone else could start doing that with their characters, too. Also, I'd like to know your opinion of how I'm doing... if I'm doing it right or not. This is my first 'storybook', after all.

Dahlia Morgan, An unknown road | "Reborn A Monster" (1)

A dazed girl suddenly stops her feet in the middle of her long peregrination, her dark hazel eyes staring blankly through strands of disheveled black hair down the long road she had been traveling. To her, it felt as if she had just awoken from a dream. The silent, heavy heat present in the dead of night, however, reminded her otherwise. In this new, chaotic world that had become of her familiar Earth, burning heat and thick atmosphere loomed, even into the midnight hour. As the girl realized that this was reality she was experiencing, she searched her mind for a memory of what led her here.

Dahlia Morgan, the brightest and most charismatic young scientist to make it big in the field of genetics. That is who she is... or, at least, who she used to be. When the world, almost literally, went up in flames, it was she and her world-renowned father, Prof. Nikolai Morgan, who took it upon themselves to find a way to save mankind, sacrificing their well-being in the process. They, along with a small team of lab assistants, remained in the lab and dedicated themselves to preventing the extinction of the human race.

However, Prof. Nikolai Morgan decided to isolate himself from the others to work independently, and he worked with all his heart and soul nonstop to find an answer. They all soon felt the effects of being separated from society. The dwindled supply of food and other supplies would soon render the scientists weak and starving. Unable to make it back to a populated city without much gasoline in the single vehicle they had or anyone to call since the phones stopped functioning, one of the remaining assistants died and the rest of the team were left desperate for a meal.

Nikolai Morgan was found dead in his lab. It was easy to assume the cause was exhaustion and starvation. Upon searching through her father's research logs left behind in his private lab, Dahlia found notes about his theory of infusing animal DNA into humans' for them to develop traits of those animals in order to survive in the new world. After a few days of thought, an idea eventually came to Dahlia. She surmised that the only remaining resource are the scientists themselves. Without any other solution visible, and in her dire state of health, she looked at the vials of animal blood on her father's desk and thought of which one to transmogrify her DNA with. Given her situation, the only one she thought useful was the hyena DNA. A hyena, she knew, can eat any living being without fear or remorse. And, without any animal in the vicinity other than humans, she would have to resort to feeding upon them... The hyena DNA would be perfect.

Dahlia created a formula by following the plans written by her father, and injected it into her bloodstream. The formula began to affect her immediately. Dahlia screamed as she felt a throbbing pain throughout her body, and then...

The lost girl let out a heavy sigh. She couldn't recall anything since that moment. How long has it been since then? And, how did she end up here? Dahlia looked down at her hands. Hooked black claws protruded from each fingertip and every one of them drenched in blood. At that moment, the memories came rushing back. The unbearable hunger, the fear in the eyes of her co-workers, their screams of terror, their convulsions of agony, the taste of their flesh... Did she really do something so gruesome and heartless to those who respected her, adored her, and worked for her so passionately?

"Yes. I did it. It killed them,"she thought to herself. Dahlia's lips stretched into an devilish grin, revealing all her razor-sharp fangs.

"And they were absolutely delicious." The deranged girl giggled to herself as she continued on down the road.

NPC in Lisbon.

Dr. Ward Emerson | Lisbon Research Facility | "Reborn A Monster" (1.1)

"Bat DNA? You must be joking." Dr. Emerson's associates laughed, almost praying in their jovial tone that he was playing games with them.

The doctor turned, a dark scowl on his face. "Just imagine it. . . Each night, the sky blackens, the earth heats, and there are fewer plants to eat outside of a controlled environment!"

His researchers took a moment to ponder it, staying by one of the Transmogrification vessels. One finally spoke up. "But the Morgan System gave strict guidelines to what we as researchers--"

"Dr. Morgan vanished after transmitting his research from a lab now confirmed to have been mauled by ravenous animals." Dr. Emerson scoffed. "Don't tell me about his righteous guidelines."

The party of scientists rejoined their leader, following him into the Genetics lab where an array of Bat DNA was displayed on a large screen. "Gentlemen, please bear witness to the next generation in Morganization."

Clicking a remote, the lights dimmed and all eyes focused on the screen. The figure of a naked male human appeared on-screen, along with the previous shot of Bat DNA. The ideal parts of the Bat began to merge with the necessary pieces of human and, in moments, an entirely new creature stood in its place. All fatty meat on the body had been removed, the ribcage was visible, and the shoulders were mutated to sharp sweep-points. The fingernails became claws, and, most noticeably, the canine teeth grew to twice their size.

"You're a fool!"

All the scientists looked at the man in the back. "All you've done is created an old myth! A vampire! Pah!" The man stormed from the room, leaving the rest to the continuation of the video. Suddenly, the lights came on again.

Dr. Emerson turned to his colleagues, nodding. "He is right. . . This new generation of Morganization reaches back into centuries long past. . . Into the time of vampires and werewolves and Chupacabra's. The entire basis of Morganization is what those authors were getting at; the idea of an alternative being capable of living on alternative means."

The room fell dead silent.

"Today, we release into the waters of Lisbon my research."

Dark green, blue, and brown eyes grew wide through the room.

"It will be gruesome at first. We will see much bloodshed."

Someone swallowed heavily.

"But, most of all, we will see survival."

The air grew thick, and Dr. Emerson removed his thick glasses, placing his hands down on the table. "Today, we will give birth to the Lisbon Myotis."

Dahlia Morgan, An unknown road | "Reborn A Monster" (1.2)

Dahlia walked on for what seemed like days, though this obviously was not the case, for the sun had not yet risen. For most of the journey, the road was illuminated only by the pale light of the moon. The young scientist was not accustomed to the streets of Florida, having lived in New Jersey for most her life and staying almost exclusively in the laboratory since coming to this state, and now regretted never taking time to learn the streets and cities. Simply said, she was lost.

Eventually, she came across a street sign. The sign supposedly stated the name of the city a few miles further, but the name of that city was covered up by white spray-paint, and the word "Cassadaga" was painted over it in a neat, gothic typography.

"'Cassadaga'? I'm pretty sure I've never heard of a city with that name in Florida," she thought, "Maybe it's just nonsense graffiti?"

Dahlia was glad to see that there were functioning street lights lining the street ahead of her. All the electricity worked, even though she couldn't see anyone there. Well, that wouldn't be too strange to see at this time of night, anyway. Many plazas and popular chain stores lined the streets, but this image was contrasted by the amount of graffiti on the walls and sidewalks. All the graffiti were words that seemed religious or prophetic. Messages such as "The purging has begun," "Through the Hall lies salvation," and "We will escape the devil crimson," all written in the same gothic style, could be seen everywhere.

Being one so devoted to science, Dhalia thought these messages to be slightly humorous. These people put their faith in something they have no valid proof of, and look what happened. They're probably all dead.

Dahlia glanced down and saw the lab coat she had been wearing drenched in blood.

"This is no good. I'm filthy."

She looked around and spotted a large clothing store called "Robinson's." The bloody girl headed towards the store, deciding to find herself something clean to wear.
