I have been meaning to write a story like this for while now, but have kind of been putting it off... I also have no idea where this story is going, either. So, here it is:

Excuses: Chapter One
I stood next to the young Dillon Patterson, smiling as we watched his new filly explore the large, green pasture. Her mother, a black and white Tobiano paint, was standing next to me, watching her child play. Standing so close to Dillon wasn't good, and his intoxicating scent was getting to me. I moved towards the mare, accidentally nudging her shoulder. I cursed under my breath as she moved over, crunching the grass under her hooves. I heard Dillon laugh, and I turned to him.

My attention was immediately drawn to his deep blue eyes. Just his eyes had the power to render me speechless. Trailing down his face, I took in all his handsome features; his broad nose, his high cheekbones, and his soft, luscious lips. I blushed, remembering how his lips felt pressed to mine.

"Nara," he said, stepping closer to me. I tried to look away, but I couldn't bring myself to draw my eyes from his face. "Would you like to stay for dinner?" I sighed, of course I did. I always wanted to stay for dinner, I wanted to stay for much more than dinner.

"I can't," I lied. I looked down at the ground, looking at my pink painted toenails, "I have to go back to the clinic." I apologized, and turned to leave the pasture. Dillon caught my wrist and I sighed, turning to face him. "Dillon, I really do have to go."

"You don't have to go back to the clinic, it's almost 8:30. Your clinic closes at six." Damn him, damn him to hell-he'd memorized my hours.

"But I..." I hesitated to think of an excuse, looking once again at his lips, "I have to make a house call tonight." Yeah, that works, I thought.

"Nara, I know you're lying." I swore under my breath and Dillon smiled. He knew me too well. "Just stay for dinner."

"It's not just dinner, Dillon." It was always much more. Much more than a meal, it would always turn into a kiss, and that kiss always led to us falling into bed.

"Well I promise I won't try anything," he was lying, I could see it in his eyes. I smiled; Dillon knew I wanted him.

"I'll stay, but as soon as I'm done dinner, I am getting in my truck and leaving," I told him, pulling him towards the house.

Dillon's house was a large, log farmhouse. It had a sense of home. The colors were light and friendly. Pictures of family were hung on the walls. Pictures of his neice and nephew, his sister and her husband, and his parents. There were even a few pictures of Dillon and I scattered about.

"I can almost guarantee that you'll hang around for more." I smiled, Dillon was so confident with himself. He didn't need to be, I would be attracted to him no matter what. And that will be the death of me, I had to keep coming back for more.

"I can't." I'd save the reason until after dinner. I wanted to enjoy his company for an hour or so. It wouldn't be right to break his heart, then make him eat dinner with me.

"I think I can change your mind," Dillon pulled me to him, our faces were inches apart, we were gazing into each other's eyes. I suddenly felt foolish, if someone saw us, what would they see? A couple in love, or an old lady with a young man? Most likely the latter. I sighed, pulling away and looked out the window, through the branches of a dogwood tree, and saw my black dodge sitting in the driveway. I could easily drive away and never come back, the problem was, I didn't want that.

"What's wrong, Nara?" Dillon asked, sounding concerned.

"What's wrong is I'm old."

"Nara," Dillon pulled me to him once again, pressing his lips to mine. It was just a quick peck, but it was enough to make me want more. Almost enough to make me forget why we couldn't do this, but there was always that voice in the back of my head, telling me how wrong this was. "You aren't old, you're young. You're beautiful, amazing, smart, sexy, and mine." Butterflies erupted in my stomach, before I stomped on them as hard as I could. Once I conquered each and every one of them, I pulled away again.

"Can we talk about this later," I pinched the bridge of my nose between my forefinger and thumb. It helped get rid of the tears that came with thinking about this talking to Dillon about this. Dillon nodded, before hugging me tightly. One of the good things about having a man who knows you so well is that he knows when you need a hug. One of the bad things is that it makes it that much harder to let him go.

----------------------------------------

What do you guys think? I wrote it when I was really bored, and should have been sleeping. Should it be longer, more detailed, or should I not continue?

I am kind of happy with this so far, I want to know what you think! :]

Comment, like, review please!

[Edit. May 10th. I added some things, more detail. Hope you like it.]

More, more, more! That's a really cool start to a story. You've really drawn me in and I'd love to see more. The only problem I found with it was you said "I tried to look away, but I couldn't bring myself to look away from his face. " It has 'look away' twice too close together. Try something like "I tried to look away, but I couldn't bring myself to draw my eyes from his face" so it doesn't sound repetitive. Otherwise, I'm impressed. Well done.

Hello Temptation!!
Interesting name by the way.lol.
So I'll review your piece today, I'm a little rusty on this so please forgive me if I get anything wrong.

So let's start. I like how it starts, it's quite interesting even though it doesn't tell us much about the main character or about the background, we know is a green pasture but try using your senses in there and tell us how it looked and how you felt in it. I liked your description of Dillon, just try not to throw it at us so fast, let us enjoy the picture, and try to describe more the effect of his scent on the main character.

It had a sense of home, and was decorated as if done by an interior decorator.

I have a problem with this here, because you may have an idea of what a home decorated by an interior designer is and I may have another one, so I suggest you tell us a clear image of what the house looked like and what does it mean to you since you say it had a sense of home.

He didn't need to be, I would be attracted to him no matter what. And that will be the death of me.

Two things I'd like to know, why would you be attracted to him no matter what? Why would it be the death of you?

Now for the ending I liked it, it was really good. The wording was really good and the sense of anticipation that it leaves is really interesting. So as for your grammar, I have to say is really good, not many issues on it. Now your dialog, try including more body language to it and more emotion. As for your setting, you have to work on that because the whole story, at least for me, goes on in a black and white background.

So that's all, hope I helped.

Their ages will come up later, and in the second part, I plan on developing the characters more. :D

Thank you for the advice, everyone! I'm writing the second part right now!

Hey Temptation!

A forbidden love thing, eh? Neat! I'm curious as to what their ages would be as well... both of them seem really young to me, so I'm kind of wondering what "old" means in this case. It can't be more than 16, I'm guessing... which might possibly be creepy because if she's old, well... he's really young! Maybe 13 or 14. Which isn't altogether bad, but it's weird to me (as an adult) to see two teens that young want to be together. Mostly, girls go for older guys. ;)

And I'm guessing around 16 because she seems too easily influenced by any sort of sensuality. That is, she brushes into his shoulder and then suddenly butterflies abound and then they just KNOW that they are for each other... yeah. That doesn't really happen. XD So the world of love for her seems a lot more magical than how an adult would see it.

And besides... if she were really that old, she would be thinking, "What is WRONG with me? This boy can be my son!" So there would be much more inner turmoil than the flirtatious back and forth they have now.

Just a couple of thoughts... please continue! :)

Hey Temptation!

Do you mind if I crit a little?

Okay, so I'm gonna start off with the good points and the I'll suggest what you may need to improve on.

1. I really liked the ideas behind the story.
2. I also liked how it was written.

My only suggestions are that, I found myself reading this story and getting confused whose point of view it was in. It felt like it was constantly jumping back and forth from Dillon's point of view to Nara's
So, to improve, you should consider putting little side headings saying whose point of view it is.

Regardless. keep up the good work!

It's actually only in Nara's point of view. What made it seem like I was switching from Dillon and Nara's? (Just curious) :D
