The Escape

“I must admit, Adrelle, I thought you would have learned now.” A raspy, chalky voice sounded from behind her. Though the voice was quiet, and calm, Adrelle was stricken with panic.

“It isn’t what you think, Kier.” Adrelle said. Her voice was just above a whisper.

“Such a waste, don’t you think?” Kier asked, resentment creeping slowly into his voice.

“If what?”

“We kill you.” Kier was calm again as he spoke the evil words. He had seen many people die. The girl wasn’t any different. There were others, always others, to be hunted down.
“Let us go inside,” She suggested, “where we might be able to discuss this without the sun messing with our minds.”
Kier led Adrelle inside, out of the sun. “It wasn’t wise of you to be outside.” He said menacingly.
“It will not happen again.” Adrelle said, hanging her head. Her light brown hair fell in a waterfall around her face.

“Once Delano gets done with you, I should think not. He will hear about this.” Kier grinned.

“No. Please, Kier no! I am begging you, don’t do this to me.” Adrelle fell to her knees. Her left hand instinctively traced the many scars on her right arm.

“You have left me with no choice.” Keir said. Adrelle would have to escape now. Time was running out, she wouldn’t last much longer. One side would eventually win if she stayed, and Adrelle knew it wouldn’t be her.

Night came, and Delano hadn’t come for her. Had he forgotten? Was he drunk on gold, as he often was? It did not matter, she would make her escape.

She bolted out of the house. Keir would hear, but if she ran fast enough…..

She reached the stables in record time, being careful not to make any noise. She tossed her black cloak off, got on her horse, and rode away towards the North Star. She remembered Thane’s letter to her.

My Dearest Sister Adrelle,

Leave when night falls, and follow the North Star until day. Stop at the yellow farm-house on the side of the road. Give my name there, you will be treated well. He was a friend of mine, you know. I once did him a great favor. Ride another night, not until dark settles. Your skin is a siren call to the hunters. Stop at The Red Quill Inn, Again, give my name and yours. I have paid for a night there for you. Ride a final day. At a break in the trees, there is a path. Follow it until you reach a cave. There I will see you again, my sister. Hurry now, don’t leave us to wait. Show this to no one. Remember, the night is your friend.

Your Loving Brother,

Thane

Hello,

First off, first three - lines. Voice descriptions. One's cool, two's okay veering toward a grimace, three (in a row), eek. In word's to use, your limitless; can do anything you want, about anything you want, how you won't. Don't put yourself in a metal cage. Rather, you're outside, on a field with millions of flowers and grass and grasshoppers and crickets and whatnot, and you have space (and air) everywhere you look.

The point being, don't focus so much on one thing :) It's boring, tedious, repetetive and not a good start at all. Write about someting else. Also, be careful not to squash the grasshoppers: proper dialogue punctuation is a must!

Evil Person. We know he's evil, bad, but I think that might come at too big a price, you know? He's not 'evil' in the sence that he's oh, shudder down the spine? You know, just giving off those vibes? He's evil in the 'I'm-cackling, I speak menacingly' kind of evil. The caricature.

If you deleted the Bad Guy and inserted Best Friend talking about weather, I'm quite sure her responces, reactions could be kept as they are now (till she falls to her knees, obviously). What I mean is that it's bland, this whole scene is bland. I'm not sorry for her, I'm not scared of him.

That should be the role of the dialogue you placed before her escape, I suppose. But I'm still kinda trying to figure out why they're talking at all - if he wants to kill her, why not just kill her? The deux-ex-machine villain gloating before the deed is done, and in the meantime protag escapes?

She escapes.

And it's so easy. I mean, I'm being told she shoudl be terrified (don't get that feel), that she's - desperate, scared frigtened (out of her wits), that - how would you show all these? I mean, this will be the tip of an iceberg, a bit, but externals are important: body language. Breathing rate, heart rate, how can you describe her breathing (ragged, choked), hto tears in her throat, to name only a few. But you get the idea?

Again, that's only one layer of dimension. 3d characters need more. Reader usually wants to claw her way into a character's head, know/see its motivations and goals which have to be believable. The course of action, how the character gets to those goals (and the original motivs) have to be believable (the 'then she remembered about the letter' - unrealistic).

This post: scene 1 (dialogue), scene 2 (escape), scene 3 (letter).

Scene 1 is obsolete. Why, why is he talking to her? (If there's a perfectly sane reason, ignore). Expand horizons and cut out two voice tags. Think more of their persons... Hm. I don't know, imagine you're her, what would you see? Only those voices? Of course not. But what would you see? How would you feel? Translate that onto paper.

Body language is always good, but don't forget about the heart/mind combo. Reader has claws.

Scene 2. Pleeeaaase. "Keir would hear, but if she ran fast enough"? (/edit - maybe he wants to just keep her, not kill her. Safety measures, anyone? ducktape and a chair would do it, these days...)

Scene 3. We're nto these days, and I only realized that just now. I truly thought we were present day world. My suggestion (oh and kill her suggestion at the beginning; naked suggestion suggests calm, and she isn't calm): sprinkle hints about time period, make it clear it is not the XXI century. Right now, more suggests it is rather than not.

So all in all, expand this, elaborate. Describe more, give the characters more life. What you have is a basic outline, a 'what-will-happen'. Build around what you have. Add those emotions, add that sense of place. Dont' make eveyrhting so easy for the MC. We all hate people who have it easy in life.

Wow great plot line i really enjoy it so far. But like the post above i did discover a couple mistakes. For example. like the post above try to focus on something other than his voice. maybe his breath that stanched of corpses or something. I personally am a big discripter and i truly enjoy when you really paint the image strongly. like say how tall he is or what color his eyes are. If you really paint out this man it really pulls the reader in and makes them feel like they are actully in the story. WELL I AM HOOKED SO FAR PLEASE FINISH A NEW CHAPPTER SOOOOOOOOOOOOON :D
