I hate my job. You know what I hate even more than my job? Seeing the video screen on the town square zoom in on the persons face as I call their names

"Gerald! You are on in 5" a voice yells from near the stage. I step onto the stage and give everyone my smile, that makes the girls melt. But they don't get it underneath my perfect face lives a monster.

"Welcome to the 26th annual hunt!" My voice ringing out across the crowd, everyone is silence. I smile again, I swear if I am this happy when I call the contestants I will puke. The ice fountain raises itself from the square, begging for everyone's eyes. They can not hear but I can, it groans and creaks when it comes up. Then fish made of watery ice jump from the fountain and dissolve when they hit the floor. I don't get it, why did they pick me? I was dying, the disease was killing me, and they had a cure. They offered me a chance to live, they said all I had to do was be an announcer. I didn't know it would drive me crazy, that was 26 years ago, and I am still 21. Of course after I recovered from the disease my face was patched and shrunken. They gave me plastic surgery, made me pretty. Or so you could say. Every time I look in the mirror I see my ugly shrunken face staring back, because mirrors never lie. I still can not believe it, the government has a cure the disease but they will not use it! They just use it as their weapon, they won't stop the pain and suffering. I reach out and grab a fish from the fountain, it turns into a piece of glass with a name engraved into it.

"Victoria Oak" I say,

"VICTORIA OAK!" This time I practically scream it. I smile, my stomach sinks, and my breakfast is threatening to rise. A girl starts pushing herself to the front she just pushed another girl away from her. Probably family, the family girl is screaming and choking at the same time. 3 boys are holding her back, but she is threatening to break loose. Another thing I hate about my job? It makes sane people go insane. The girl keeps pushing forward her voice rings out across the crowd.

"That's me...I" She starts choking, takes a deep breath and keeps going.

"I... am Victoria Oak."

"Lucky you" I smile looking out to the crowd, my breakfast coming closer and closer to my mouth.
"Lucky, Lucky you"

Hey,

This is good writing but no offense it is too much like the Hunger Games. Maybe it will change later on but for now, it's just....I don't know.... I read the first one (Victoria) and the bad grammar and lack of puncuation deterred me from reading this, but I did anyway. :) I like it and I like where this is going because I loved the Hunger Games but the topic of in a future world where there is an annual "Celebration" when out of lottery teenagers get picked to fight to the death in an arena is just to deja vu for me. Maybe add your own personal twist. :)

I am nothing
but a mouthful of 'sorry's, half-hearted
apologies that roll of my tongue, smoothquick, like 'r's
or maybe like pocket candy
that's just a bit too sweet.
