Lovely New Member

The lovely new member is me, although I guess I should have let you fine folk decide on the lovely part. So my name is Richela. My nickname is Chela, hence the user name Chelarose. Not the most creative, but I like it. I'm almost seventeen, which is exciting to me because I'm like the five year old that will remind you every chance she gets that she's five and three quarters. Although apparently saying you're five and three quarters is cuter than saying you're sixteen and three quarters, go figure. If you haven't quite figured it out, I tend to ramble on. The sad thing is i honestly try not to, but oh well.

Things about me:
My life revolves around writing. Nothing is more important to me. Except my best friends and family.
I was born in Spain. I lived on two islands, one of the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean Sea where I was actually born, and another one in the Canary Islands which is close to Africa and I lived next to the beach. I did live for a while in Valencia which is in the actual country of Spain. I moved to the U.S when I was six and still live here.
When I grow up I'm going to be an editor, apparently bilingual editors are in demand. Don't know if I want to work in a publishing house or in a literary magazine yet, though.
I act like I don't have a clear hold of reality. That's merely a pretense, I do. I just don't like the seriousness of real life. The first thing one of my friends told me when she read one of my short stories was that she was surprised because of all people she hadn't thought me of someone who knew anything about how the world works.
I really love music. I play the clarinet. I was in a musical review about a month ago. I also love listening to most types of music.
My favorite color changes by day depending on my mood. Today it's violet.
I am working on a novel. I've been working on it for a couple months. It's a romance novel although it was supposed to be mainstream fiction. Natalia and Noah just didn't respect my decision. Plus, it's my Nanowrimo book. So I had little time to argue with them and either ways they would have won.
However, I've been focusing more on short stories. I love shorties for some reason. Which is why I can't decide between a literary magazine and a publishing house.
When I write it I'm okay at poetry. I usually can't find the inspiration to write a poem, though. I'm more about rhyme schemes, though, which is why I can't really review poetry because a lot of stuff is freestyle now a days.
I love reading stuff that breaks the rules of conventionality. It makes my day.
My favorite fruit is strawberries.
Sunny weather is what I live for but rain and snow are more poetic to me.

There's more to me, but I feel like I've rambled on long enough. So yeah. Hi everyone!

Well, Spain was nice, I loved it. Part of the reason I loved it was because most of what I remember is from when I was four and five, and when I was five I lived on an island. Even better, though, I lived on a coastal city, and I'm definitely a beach person. Plus, I like the lifestyle in Spain better. Visiting, it's really beautiful. I think any new place is really beautiful, though. Well, yeah, I play the clarinet for school. After high school I doubt I'll play it much, but until then I'm committed.

Well, my favorite author would have to be Cynthia Voigt, and I'll even give you a why. Her books, more specifically her Tillerman Series were absolutely beautiful in my eyes. Shortly, I figured out the reason they were so beautiful were because her characters were so devastatingly beautiful and they were full of emotion to me, like the real kind. She is seriously my writing idol, after I read her books I immediately started working on characterization. I'm a big stickler on character development now lol. Even after reading for years, her characters are still some the most real characters in my head. Also, one of my favorite quotes comes from her. "Love stories aren't about how they end." Which is from her book Orfe, I'm not sure if she made it up or just made the story around it.
My favorite book would have to be Fire Fire by Eva Sallis. It has to do with the characters too, they're vivid and real. She doesn't have characters that are lovable but characters that you can connect to, which to me there's a big difference. Also in the book it shows a family of children growing up and how they change as they grow up, and it was unlike anything I had ever read in my entire life. Basically because it actually was like growing up, they just had more traumatizing effects that influenced them. One of the reviews on the front cover said that the book was grotesque and I didn't take it quite seriously because I had never read a book that was so real that reading it actually repulsed you until this one. Everything was just so earnest, it had no limits or inhibitions, and it was raw with emotion. This is one of the books that convinced me I wanted to be a writer and that I wanted to be an editor.
I'll read anything, really. If it's good all around, I love it. However, my favorites to read are definitely Mainstream Fiction or Historical Fiction. I will read Romance, but I tend to avoid it because sometimes Romance writers think inside the box. The only Romance I like is stuff that jumps so out of the box that you can't even see the box anymore. Yet the best Romance I've ever read was in a fantasy book, so that's a bit discouraging. I write Mainstream Fiction and a bit of Romance although I avoid it, because I don't want to do it unless I feel I'm really writing something new.
Ah, more rambling! Oh well, I think I answered your questions pretty well. =P

Ah, sounds nice. I'd love to go there one day. But I speak French, not Spanish. xD

So...you're quite the all-round writer, is that right? A dash of everything - novel, short story, journalisty pieces, and the odd poem? I like it - since I am too! But I congratulate you on this novel project - I tried one a few years back, and just didn't stick with it; I got bored of my own creation. Which explains why I'm into poetry currently.

It seems we've got many musicians here - I play the piano and have done so for nine years. Guess the creative streak runs wild into other areas as well, eh?

I'd love to read some of your writing. It sounds good, just from the way you describe other people's reactions to it. Have you already posted some of it up? And where?

Hey! I'm sending this message to you in Spanish for the practice and because I had a bit of free time to write this in Spanish. It's not perfect, at all, and now I'm trying to switch my brain back to English which considering I'm not that good at Spanish you'd think would be easier! Anyways, here's the English version:

I'll warn you now that I'm not very good at writing in Spanish. The accent thing bugs me too, but either ways I wouldn't remember where they go. When I write in Microsoft Word it adds in the accents for me. I'm very happy that something in the Welcome Mat gives you the impression that I'm a good writer. By your responses, I think we'll get on well too.

I'm not sure if you could consider me a universal writer (I used the term universal because it means the same thing and it's easier to translate). I've tried a lot of things, but that's because I like trying new things. I've never really written an article if it wasn't for a type of project in school. I'd like to do one! I haven't really had a real opportunity because my school opened for the first time last year. So we don't have a school newspaper or journalism classes. I've entertained the idea of writing some freelance articles when I grow up because I have some ideas/beliefs that are controversial and radical (I didn't make it clear but I meant for some type of magazine that has the same beliefs as I). But most of the time I'm focused on novels or short stories. I think that the genere/type of stuff I write is a bit different. I actually started off writing fantasy. The first book I ever finished, that was when I was eleven years old so nobody is ever reading that, was fantasy. I've also tried to write mystery and suspense books. I never finished the suspense book (or the mystery book really) but from what I did write I think it had the potential to be good. Ultimately, it doesn't interest me much. What I am interested in is the psychology of a person, emotions, and how people react to certain situations. That's why I like writing general fiction. It's also the reason I like to write romance, because I think that love is one of the things that affects human beins the most. I definitely am the type of person that likes to try everything.

I also like people that try to write everything like you said you do! Yeah, books are hard to write. A lot of authors have said that the middle part of the book is the hardest to write and sometimes they just can't finish. I think that except for poems (because I get the impression that they flow out of people but that might just be me), everything is like that. It's harder with books because they take longer to write, and getting bored of your own creation is murder for the novel. I hope that doesn't happen with my novel but there's the possibility. Right now I'm focused with my short stories, though, lol.

Inspiration comes in many forms. =D I think that many writers play music because writers and musicians are very sensitive and we understand things a bit easier when we put things in a different form like music or literature.

I hope I'm good! I haven't posted anything yet for people to read. I'm focusing on giving reviews first. But soon I'll have something ready. I'd love to read something yours too! So if you have something posted tell me where. Thanks for the tips and I'll definitely message you if I have a question.

Hey Chela! I'm pretty jealous that you're from Spain. I've been to Europe but never there. I would very much like to some day. Do you still go back to visit?

I am 21 years and 10 months. I like to play the piano but I'm not much good at it. I'm in college, majoring in creative writing and theatre (acting). I recently spent three months interning in NYC at a theatre there! It was tough work but the city inspired much in me. I am a writer of both poetry and fiction - but lately more poetry. I don't think I could ever pull off writing a whole novel in a month.

Hi! It's nice to know I'm not the only one on here that plays an instrument. I don't play the clarinet though. I play the saxophone, but a lot of my best friends play the clarinet and so does the band director at school. By reading your posts and stuff, you remind me of my neighbor. Don't worry! That's a compliment. She is a writer and a very good one at that. Plus, she is funny and very creative. She's a cool person to be around. But anyway, I can't wait to read some of your work! You sound like you write really cool stuff!

I sent you a snowman, because it was happy looking and who doesn't love a happy looking snowman? You're jealous of me? Oh, I am so jealous of you I can not even describe it! You spent three months interning at one of the only colleges I would consider going to in the U.S, in one of the favorite cities I've ever been there, interning at a theater? Oh my gosh, that sounds so incredibly amazing. I decided not to put that I love acting for some reason in the Welcome Mat, but I do. I know teenagers usually change their mind about what they're going to do, but there are three things that I really love which are writing, acting, and music and would never get tired of doing. I knew I could never do music for living. So I kind of am sure that if I didn't want to be a writer and editor, I would totally be going down the acting path. Hence my extreme jealousy. It sounds amazing. I don't visit but I'm actually going back to live in Spain in two years. It was never really my choice whether I wanted to live in the U.S or Spain, but ultimately had someone asked me I would have chosen Spain. Since I'm getting that choice pretty soon, I've decided I want to live part of my life in my home country, lol.

You could definitely write a book. I mean, I didn't think I could either until I got the guts to do Nanowrimo last year either and go for it. However, as soon as you are determined to write and stay clear of the erase button, you'd be surprised how easy it ends up coming. It completely sucks, except for a few cool parts, but that's what revision is for! Anyways thanks for the welcome and I hope you make friends too! Nah, you're not the only one. Saxophone is a pretty sweet instrument. I never considered it, to be honest, but not because I didn't want to play it but because I never saw myself play such a big instrument. I know that sounds weird since saxophones aren't that big, but if I had been taller I probably would have ended up playing saxophone. My band conductor played the trombone, but his wife plays the clarinet. I know this girl that used to be my neighbor, she's a total riot and she plays the saxophone. Aw, I'm glad I remind you of your neighbor, thanks! I'll definitely check some of your stuff out too!
