This piece kinda fell out of my brain, and i'm not sure if it's any good or not. Any reviews would be really helpful because i'm trying to figure out whether or not i should scrap this piece or continue it. Oh, and if you're sick of reading vampire stories, you should probably turn back now.

He would be here every night. Or at least another spot like it; an alleyway that’s shaded away from the synthetic luminosity of grime-covered street lamps. He pressed his back against the remains of an old concrete building and impassively proceeded to light a cigarette. Click, click, click chirped his lighter as the orange flame flickered on and off fruitlessly. After a few tries it lit, and he was content.

He spent the next few minutes gulping in the toxic fumes, and when he decided he was finished, began to walk slowly back to his slum. He made a point to enjoy the fresh, clean spring air, but after a couple of whiffs he decided he had accumulated enough of the car and machine exhaust to make himself dizzy. He closed his eyes and imagined he was inhaling the fragrant, earthy perfume of rich soil. Then he blinked, looked up, and mentally cleared the smog out of the sky so that he could see the stars, poking out the nothingness of space, like someone had poked tiny little holes through the surface of the world…

It was the stars that he missed most in city life. He could hardly remember what they really looked like. Stars were just like little street lamps hanging far out in space; nothing special, nothing brilliant. But he missed them. He missed lying on his back in the earth, the smell of sweet Louisiana soil filling up his lungs. Way back then he was just a child, but he still remembered how he would sigh with content as the clean air ran through his lungs. He still remembered how it felt when he would thread his tiny fingers through the cool grass, and how he would stare up at the sky with wide eyes; at the deep, vast void, and feel like the only one in the world.

He supposed that not many people liked that feeling; being alone. He assumed that’s why there’s so many people here in Los Angeles. But to him, this place could never be home. Under those stars was the only place he‘d ever belong. And that’s why tomorrow he was ditching this this town and catching a train back to Louisiana. His mother would not be there anymore, but if the clear country air couldn’t sort him out, he was sure that nothing would. He had cleaned out his entire bank account on this ticket, and was determined to finally flip to a new page in his life.

He reached his current residence after a few minutes. It was an old, dilapidated hotel that had gone out business quite some time ago. It certainly wasn’t the kind of place you could ever call home, but it served his basic needs. And putting aside the putrid smell that hung about the place like a thick fog, and the minor infestation of rats, it wasn’t the worst place in the city to crash. His neighbors were quiet; they were mostly squatters like him and kept to themselves. Also, the cops didn’t seem to bother coming down here, which was another added plus.

Though as he came near the building, he couldn’t help feeling that something wasn’t quite right about the motel tonight. It was strangely quiet, and the smell of something foreign wafted to his senses; strong enough of an odor to supersede the usual scent of rotting garbage and urine. As he approached his door, the scent became stronger. It was metallic, like pennies. He turned the doorknob and stepped in, keeping his eyes peeled for anything out of the usual. Suddenly, through the thin wall of his room he heard a peculiar sound; something that sounded too similar to a muffled scream to be ignored. Rushing back outside, he flung open the door of the apartment next to his and came upon a horrific sight.

Blood decorated all four corners of the room; splattered grotesquely on the walls, and in ruby red pools on the floor. A woman was being held upright by a man, her throat ripped out, and eyes wide open in a deathly stare. The man’s mouth was attached to the wound, and was drinking fervently from her neck, clinging to her body as if he was clinging on to life.

Immediately, he started vomiting. The smell of blood was unbearable now, making all his senses feel sick. The beast brought its head up and stared at the intruder, letting loose an angry snarl. It dropped the woman’s body, letting it fall to the floor with a limp, lifeless thud.

Paralyzed with fear, he stood still as the beast lunged at him with terrifying speed, and sank its sharp fangs into his neck.

The thing smelt absolutely foul, and its breath was even worse. Its lips surrounded the softest part of his neck, as one of its sharpest fangs grazed his flesh and ripped open an artery. He howled with pain as his own warm blood oozed fervently from his neck and was devoured by the beast.

He used all his force to try to push the thing away from him, but his greatest efforts only amounted to a few seconds of freedom before it grabbed his arm and snapped it in two. A whole new set of pain nearly blacked him out. He cursed, desperately wishing that it had. The pain from his broken arm was unbearable.

He felt paralyzed again; from fear, from pain, and from shock. Even as all this was going on, two different thoughts passed through his mind at nearly the same time. The first was an aching feeling that this was the end of him. That he was going to die tonight and never amount to anything. That he was never going to make it back to Louisiana; never have that opportunity to start over.

The second feeling was telling him to hold on to life. He knew in the back of his mind that if he let go of his consciousness now, he would never wake up. By the freak chance the beast wouldn’t kill him tonight, if he were to black out now, his blood loss would be too great and he would be drained before he had the chance to wake up.

The thing was drinking him quickly though, and he still couldn’t find the strength in himself to move. His good arm flailed at his side, while his other hung at an irregular, crooked angle; completely useless. He was unable to move his head, with it being so painfully connected to his injured neck, and his legs trembled uncontrollably. However much he tried to fight it, he was losing consciousness with every second. His senses faded to the point where the only thing he could feel was his heart thumping slowly inside his chest. His body was going cold, and numb.

Then the beast did the strangest thing. Using one of its yellow nails, it slashed open the wrist of it’s other hand.

“Drink,” the creature growled.

It didn’t need to tell him twice. The smell of its blood was intoxicating, and he couldn’t have resisted from drinking it if he tried. The hot, sticky fluid was like an incredible elixir, and with every swallow his senses became more acute than he had ever thought possible. The trembling in his legs ceased to quiver, his arm no longer felt any pain. His heart no longer knew any fear. He felt invincible.

Then suddenly he remembered who he was. He choked on his last gulp of blood, and shoved the beast away from him. The once-powerful monster stumbled backwards from him a few steps, laughing.

“What?…Did you do to me?” He gasped, staring with a horrified expression at his blood soaked hands, at his blood soaked body.

The thing continued to laugh, smiling wickedly at him through its yellowed, blood stained teeth.

“You’re one of us now.” It said, “Enjoy.”

Wow, that's very good! I think that it's a very good idea and I could read a lot more.
I think though you didn't need that much spacing through it, but who cares! It's really good, pm me when the next one's up.
I spy!

Hi! I shall review. And by the way, I am sick of vampire stories, so I'll be harsh... but as long as you don't go all Stephanie Meyers on me, I'll stick it out.

Way back then he was just a child, but he still remembered how he would sigh with content as the clean air ran through his lungs.

I know what you mean now, but I had to read over it twice before understanding. It sounds like you're saying he remembered himself [sighing with content as the clean air ran through his lungs]. And what I mean about the brackets is that he remembers all of the brackets in the past. It's just the wway you've worded it.

May I suggest: But he missed them. He missed lying on his back in the earth, the smell of sweet Louisiana soil filling up his lungs, way back then he was just a child. But, as the clean air ran through his lungs, he still remembered how he would sigh with contentas the clean air ran through his lungs.

And one more thing with this paragraph; why is he sighing with content as he remembers this? It's all in all a confusing sentence. Is he content for the city, in which case you were right at the begining? Or is he content at something else?

But to him, this place could never be home. Under those stars was the only place he‘d ever felt at home.

I woudl say 'where he belonged' for the second one, because repeating words is never good for the flow of a peice.

And that’s why tomorrow he was ditching this this town and catching a train back to take him back to Louisiana.

Should be: And that’s why tomorrow he was ditching this this town and catching a train back to take him back to Louisiana.

He had cleaned out his entire bank account on this ticket, and was determined to finally flip to a new page in his life.

Add in 'to'.

Okay, I've got to go now, but I'll be back in a few days or so!

lol, thanks for your review! Harshness is not a problem here, feel free to go all out :) And for the record, i still haven't read any book of the Twilight series, although right now I'm in the middle of Interview With The Vampire by Anne Rice. I guess that's why my brain felt like making a vampire story of my own.

Actually, he was remembering how content he USED to be when he lived in Louisiana. Most of that whole paragraph was supposed to be him walking down a disgusting, polluted street, and recalling these memories from his past. He wasn't actually sighing with content at that moment, he was remembering how he would sigh as he inhaled fresh air back when he was a child. It does sound really confusing as I'm trying to explain it, so I'll definitely try to fix that. Thanks!

All other mistakes have been fixed. Thank you!

very nicely done 8)
and it's only the stephanie meyer kind of vamp I'm sick of, so you're safe :D
This reminded me a lot of True Blood for some reason (then again, that's probably because I just finished watching the second season a couple of days ago  ), especially the vamp blood being (as you described it) an elixir.
I won't give you a review today (sorry :? ) I'm not in the mood
keep going!! :D

Based on the movie, I'd have to agree with you. I like my vampires with a bit more GRR! in them :)

It's alright, and I'm glad you liked it! I'm happy people are reading it.

Amazing! I loved it! It's so...descriptive. But in a good way. Not like Harry Potter where it take four pages to describe a smell. Ugh. Even though werewolves are more my style :smt002 I love it.
A conversation on smoking:
Bertie: "My doctors say it's good for relaxing the throat muscles."
Lionel: "Then they are idiots."
Bertie: "They've been knighted."
Lionel: "That makes it official then."

Harry potter takes four pages to take a major step in the plot. Twilight takes four pages to have a pointless dream and turn on her computer. Just thought I would correct.

Uh, when did I ever say anything about Twilight? I like Harry Potter. The books just took so long to get through.

OMG> I just had a nearly completed review... then I clicked away from the page... and it's all gone. I'm so sorry! I shall get right to it!

Okay, this is what i remember commenting on:

Also, the cops didn’t seem to bother coming down here, which was another added plus.

It was strangely quiet, and the smell of something foreign wafted to his senses; strong enough of an odor to supersede the usual scent of rotting garbage and urine. As he approached his door, the scent became stronger. It was metallic, like pennies.

Suddenly, through the thin wall of his room he heard a peculiar sound; something that sounded too similar to a muffled scream to be ignored. Rushing back outside, he flung open the door of the apartment next to his and came upon a horrific sight.

In action, it's best to make everything fast-paced and quick. I think the easiest was to do this is to make the sentences shorter, or add heaps of commas and have one long sentences (as you've done later on). I would re-write it as:

He stopped in his tracks. Through the thin wall of his room, he heard something. Loud, and too close to a scream to be ignored. He rushed back into the hallway and barged into the unlocked apartment next door.

And that last half of a sentence, I think should go. You describe the room well enough in the next paragraph, so you don't need to tell us that it's ugly/ horrifying. And It doesn't add to the suspense.

sharp fangs

Do you need the word sharp?

The thing smelt absolutely foul, and its breath was even worse

either get rid of it, or make it better. you can do a lot better description than this. Example:

The smell of rotten eggs and stale urine was shoved up he nose as he forced himself to breathe. His only thought was that, as long as he didn't gasp for breath, he wouldn't have to taste it.

The trembling in his legs ceased to quiver

“What?…Did you do to me?”

I think this is a comparatively weak sentence. Would you really say that? Unless you add a sentence afterwards saying 'he didn't feel like himself anymore', then it doesn't make much sense to me. I would put: "What... What just happened?" Because he clearly can't believe it... I mean, if some stranger came up to you and started drinking your blood, would you drink back. I think he can't understand what's going on.

He gasped, staring with a horrified expression at his blood soaked hands, at his blood soaked body.

Repetition = good.

[quote]blood stained teeth.[quote]

Repetition = bad.

Okay, now to comment on what your writing style was like. Good syntax, and only a few places where you've been let down. It was good in some places, like where you've described strongly:

It was strangely quiet, and the smell of something foreign wafted to his senses; strong enough of an odor to supersede the usual scent of rotting garbage and urine. As he approached his door, the scent became stronger. It was metallic, like pennies.

You give us a good sense of smell here, too. Like... normally people see the 'show and not tell' thing as 'describe what you SEE'. but I think it's better of you put yourself in the scene and describe everything that's there, which is relevent. You've done this, and the iron/ quarter/ blood thing is a nice touch, because we all know that blood smells like pennies because of the iron, but we only put two and two together later. Nice.

But some places that I thought your description were lacking.

... and came upon a horrific sight...
... the beast lunged at him with terrifying speed...
... the thing smelt absolutely foul...
... the pain from his broken arm was unbearable...
... then the beast did the strangest thing...

Bold: Doesn't tell us anything. It's sort of like a cliche that everyone uses, so it's lost all meaning. You should re-work these sentences, or get rid of them all together. These are, however, a good time to add in detail. For example, the first sentence: You added excellent detail in the next paragraph, so you should get rid of that sentence.

The second one, add in something like: 'His heart skipped a beat as the beast appeared infront of him, moving so fast that, if he had blinked, it movement would have been lost.'

The third one: describe what he smells like: rotten eggs? Puke? Blood?

Underlined: Excellant place for more detail. Instead of this word, you could put in a paragraph and really catapaut us into the scene.

What does it fee like? A thousand needles poking into his arm? Being crushed in a blender? Ten thousand vaults ripping through his nerves?

DESCRIBE!!!

And lastly, another thing you did well:

“You’re one of us now.” It said, “Enjoy.”

Although this sentence is grammatically wrong ("You're one of us now," he said. "Enjoy.") It's a powerful ending, and raps it up nicely. Good endings are hard to come by, and I think this is done excellantly! Good work!

~Asxz

P.S. Kerzawolf:
I thought you were insulting Harry Potter... I don't think she drags in about stuff like you were implying, but I admit that it takes ages to get to hogwarts in the 4/5/6/7th books. Sorry.

Wow thanks so much for that review!!! It's EXTREMELY helpful; you've pointed out a lot of things i would've overlooked before, and I will have fun adding in some detail, like you suggested :D

I'm so glad you went back and rewrote the review for me, I've actually done the same thing before :)
