I totally agree with you. I didn't like it at all.
There was so much hype on it and when I watched it, it was honestly a load of crap which left me with a headache.
The graphics and everything were beyond superb, I have to admit, but the general plot of the story is misleading and plain WEIRD.
I mean, half the characters seem like they're smoking something throughout the whole movie. I know the Mad Hatter is supposed to be mad, but there's a difference between eccentric and high on something.
Maybe its my fault for expecting too much out of it, but I really did NOT like it. And another thing, what exactly was it teaching kids? That you should run away from your problems? Or that going into other people's countries to get resources is good?

I don't know, those are just my thoughts Sorry for the rant! I just needed to say it. And I guess on the thing about colonization/going into other people's countries like Alice did at the end of the movie is based on my previous learning in school, and is quite biased but oh well.
definitely not a movie I would recommend for later viewing :p

um, Napalmerski. I was under the impression that most Europeans back then were christian. SO why would that make a difference. I mean look at the Spanish Conquistadors they brutally conquered south America and all in the name of Spain and God.

Ah, I mean the progressive protestant and anglican sects of the day, naturally, and mystics like the theosophists, christian transcendentalists, etc. The 19th century progressive 'weirdoes', not the mainstream ones.

A Crime Against Humanity? Gee, that's a little strong. It's a film, not a rewriting of the Bible.

The Alice books are some of my favourites, so I was very doubtful about how the film would turn out, but I was actually pleasantly surprised. I liked it. I liked it a lot. Yes, there were flaws.

1. Funny animal side-kicks: a mouse with a rapier, a mad rabbit, and a groveling rabbit

I have no idea why the Dormouse had a rapier; it differs completely from the Dormouse in the book. However, the Hare and the White Rabbit were in the book as mad and kind of groveling, respectively.

2. Cute animal sidekick+family reunion: the dog and his bitch and pup.

I agree with you about this, it was just silly.

3. The mad hatter:
a) esthetically, the mad hatter should never ever have been conceived as a Jack Sparrow with an orange wig
b) that laughable social realism downtrodden artisan drama, when he worked on hats in the castle, feeling his craft bring life and purpose back into him

Personally, I felt a lot of sympathy for the Hatter. His madness, the state of Wonderland, Alice being what she was, I can see why he was the way he was, and I didn't think that at all like Jack Sparrow. It was a different kind of mad entirely.

4. The castles. Disneyland castles in Alice in Wonderland?

The Red Queen was funny, but I couldn't figure out the White Queen. Alice, herself, I felt was rather bland and boring. The ending sucked; it was far too modern and unrealistic for the time.

But I really loved the film. I loved Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee, the Hatter, the six impossible things before breakfast, the Frabjous Day and the Bandersnatch and the JubJub Bird. In spite of all its flaws, calling the film a crime against humanity is far too strong. You didn't like it - far enough - but other people did. ^_^

I do belive you are right! The Mass Media has too much influence over people! We are all becoming Borg-like beings with no feelings or emotions at all! If you are going to make a film based on a book, you must actually use the book! Also, I do belive that Fiction of all kinds is giving into non-individualism and Americanisation on a massive scale. You did come up with some good points in this complaint and I fully agree with you! DOWN WITH THE MAN!

What I love about this piece is the style. It's engaging to the reader of how you've bullet pointed your rants in the alphabetical pre-bracket layout thing. It was amusing to read and kind of breaching on being a column-style piece. I think that's what hooked me. I love the opinions that you broadcast here, though not particularly persuasive, as they're breathing more over on exaggerated informs that are heavily opinionated, it doesn't matter because the hook here is the great humour that seems to flow with it.

The good thing about this is also in the detail and review of it, it also seems to be sparking debate, which automatically displays you've done well.

However what I might suggest, is perhaps explaining a little of how some people might like it or something, throwing a touch of the "other argument" into the mixing bowl and what-not but that's not particularly a nit-pick .

My little sister dragged me to see this. Maybe its because I really dislike comedy movies, but 'Alice' was completely unappealing.

I dunno - I really liked the movie. I waited until it was on DVD and didn't see it in the theaters. The White Queen fit with being insane, as she's supposed to be. I didn't like the mashing together of the Red Queen/Queen of Hearts, but what can you do? Also, it's a Tim Burton piece - of course things are going to be off and dark.

I do hope that Alice can go back to Wonderland...and if not, that's what fanfiction is for.

Good piece for a nonfiction review. However, I agree with a previous reviewer who said that calling it a crime against humanity is a bit much. Now, if we're going to go for crimes against humanity, let's start with Waterworld and go onto other Costner bombs.
