“The greater your capacity to love, the greater your capacity to feel the pain.”
One thing I have never been fully capable of grasping my mind around is love. Have you ever noticed how you see two people at a young age saying they are in love. Their eyes began to shine when they hear the other ones name, their hearts skip faster when they see that special person approach. Then everything changes. Those two lovers, the one holding hands to tight, you never thought they’d let go, rip their very own hands apart. The process is silent. Not one around them can hear the screaming pain that echoes in their head. No one can see how their hearts are now two figures, sliced into halves. So then my main question emerges, one question that I am sure we have all asked ourselves at some point in our lives. Why do we love? It is as if people know and see the warning label of love. Love is in amazing thing, go ahead and do it, but WARNING: The results will be a heartbreak in the end. It’s as if they simply erase the last part, unaware of what mess they are getting themselves into. It honestly it humorous when I see people that act as if they have never fallen in love. All they look for is a hook-up, or experimienting. What is a pity is the fact that those people don’t know how much the other person may be thinking the opposite. Maybe they don’t want a hook-up or a quick experiment. That results in hearts breaking. Falling too quickly is something, a lot of people tend to do. They close their eyes and step forward and began to fall down the cliff. I thought love was suppose to be never ending. Eternal. I thought love wasn’t suppose to be jealous? I thought love wasn’t suppose to hurt? I thought love was suppose to trust? I thought love was suppose to be patient?
But it just isn’t. Love isn’t just seeing someone and thinking, “They are cute.” And then thinking you fell for them. That’s lust. Love is much more complex, or maybe it isn’t? Maybe love is simple, yet we make it complex. Either way love takes time. We feel as if some things are love, but they really aren’t. However, let me get back to the pain topic, the focus of this passage. If we all know that love is going to hurt, result in endless pain in the end, why do we still fall for it? Why do we act as if we are naïve prey, walking right into the hunter’s trap? We’re human, maybe that’s why. We all need to make mistakes in life, learn from them, heal from them, and then the cycle continues. All this honestly just gives me a headache. Love is a confusing topic. Possibly something that no one will ever find the answer too. All I know is that love results in pain. Pain results in love. The two are incorporated together. I’ve broken my heart many times. I’ve also broken hearts many times. L-O-V-E. Even spelling it out makes no sense of it. Love is love to put simply. The answers are many, the question is one. I hope one day I realize what love truly means and why I still feel it despite the fact I know it’ll hurt in the end. Someday I’ll know the answer. And when I do, I’ll forget the past, I’ll forget about you, and I’ll know that this moment right here, this now for me right here, is what true love is.
