I remember once lying on a sun-drenched hillside covered with twisted Gum trees and beautiful little white and yellow flowers, watching the immaculately blue river that filled my heart with so many memories from the past. The water looked like a million stars had fallen into it, it was shinning so brightly. The colour was a pale blue with a few birds swooping down hunting for their food. The memories were flowing through my head, like water rushing out of an overfilled storm drain after a huge rain storm. These memories were so sad they hurt. At this point I could not stop thinking about if I could have done anything more that night. It was eating me up inside, like a hungry dog about to eat its first meal of the week. It’s hard to believe that only two months ago it was so wonderfully different.
My name is Sky and I’m seventeen, I have long wavy brown hair that never sits straight, and pale skin that never wants to tan accompanied with dark blue eyes. Up until last year my life was ordinary, I went to school just like any other teenager, had stupid crushes on guys and worked a part time job, not that I don’t still do these things but up until the day I met Ray I had never done anything crazy or spontaneous. I tried to be everybody’s version of perfect. Pleasing my parents my friends and my teachers it was exhausting, and all the while never feeling like I fitted in. The day I met Ray it was like a breath of fresh air one I just couldn’t breathe in quick enough.
I was running late. I couldn’t believe that I had slept through my alarm; Ally was going to kill me. Ally Michaels is best friend, we met when our parents put us in the same preschool together.
I remember the very first time I met Ally, she was my hero.
All I wanted was to be backing home with my faded blue bear Mr Cuddles. Playing tea parties and dress up with all my toys, but mummy and daddy had decided that it was time for me to go to a place that they called preschool. Driving up the drive way in my booster seat, looking out the window watching as we got closer and closer to the scary yellow building, with the horrible painted pictures on the wall. I knew that I didn’t want to go in there I just didn’t.
“Look sweetie, we are here” Mummy and daddy crooned from the front seat.
“You are going to have so much fun and make lots of new friends.” They said pushing me through the door.
“Oh look there’s finger painting and slippery slides, your going to love it here. Now go play with the other children and we will see you this afternoon. We love you” with that they turned away, leaving me all alone.
I couldn’t believe that they had actually left me here; I didn’t like it I wanted to go home!
“Hey shortie why so sad? Did mummy and daddy leave did they?” I looked up through the curtain of my hair to see the most scary boy I had ever seen in my life. I came up to his elbow, he was huge. He had spiky blond hair, an evil grin that I didn’t like and a paint brush covered in dripping black paint.
“I’m Damien, and I don’t like you so STAY AWAY.” He said and with a flick of the paint brush, painted a big black line down my face. I was so scared, I just stood there and shook I wish mummy and daddy would come and get me now please. I didn’t want to be here anymore.
“Damien take this” I heard a voice yell from behind me.
With a splat Damien was covered in newspaper and glue, the entire room was silent for a moment then everybody erupted into hysterical laughter as Damien turned and fled. I slowly turned around to see a curly red haired girl with two big dimples, big brown eyes and as many freckles as you could possibly count.
“Are you okay? I’m Ally, want to be friends?” she said sticking out her hand for me to shake.
“Sure I stammered back.” Taking her hand slowly
“We are going to be best friends” she announced proudly
I felt a smile slowly spread across my face; apparently this place wasn’t going to be so bad after all.
I quickly threw on clothes that were scattered around my messy purple bedroom, while frantically trying to find my half of the English assignment that had kept me up half the night. A quick look in my mirror told me that my hair was utterly impossible, so I quickly scraped it back into a messy bun.
