"The door's locked, no one's in there. Can we leave?"
Mitchell's voice was a bit frantic as he asked that. From the stories he had heard about St. Michan's Church, this was no place to be messing around. Why wasn't his girlfriend scared? He was ready to drag her to the nearest town, away from this wretched place. This was the church that Bram Stoker visited. Something here scared him so much, he wrote Dracula.
Cael, however, thought that was the coolest fact ever. She had been visiting relatives in Ireland when they told her that little bit of information. And, like most places, she dragged her boyfriend, Mitchell, here too, whether he liked it or not.
So there they were. She shot him a look of triumph as the door opened with ease as she pushed it. She took in her surroundings. Another ancient looking door stood at the other side of the church.
'OhmyGodohmyGodohmyGod she's going to knock on that door ohmyGod.'
Mitchell's eyes widened as she sprinted towards the door, and he tried to grab her arm. He barely managed to touch a few wisps of her curly brown hair. "Cael, we should leave."
She rolled her eyes. "Why are you so scared? It's just a church. A really old church." She knocked on the door three times.
Minutes passed while nothing happened.
"I told you so.." Mitchell muttered. He wasn't scared for himself, really. He was scared for her. Her curiosity always seemed to get the best of her, and at some point he knew she would suddenly freeze up and get scared.
Cael was still waiting, though. And to her pleasure, she heard the clanging of multiple locks being undone. "I told you so."
The door opened with a creak, and there stood the most blank person she had ever seen. His hair was dark and greasy, slicked back so he wouldn't have to bother with it. His face was pale and emotionless. He wore a long, dark green coat.
Mitchell tried not to look spooked. The man that stood in front of them looked unkempt and soulless.
"Follow me." The man's voice caused them to jump. It was deep, and he had only a slight Irish accent. He pointed to a small sign-in book for the visitors. As Cael leaned over, she noticed the sign-in sheet's last visitor had come her seven years ago. She glanced nervously at the tour guide, but shrugged it off.
He proceeded to give them a tour of the church, pointing out all of the oldest objects, and how long they had been there. Towards the end of his tour, he played a sad song on the organ.
What happened next made Mitchell nearly grab his girlfriend and run.
"So," The man boomed, "Do you want to see him?"
He looked directly into Cael's deep blue eyes. Mitchell noticed she shook a bit, and realized that this man had never looked directly at him. Not once. He glanced at the door out, and noticed the man had re locked it.
"Sure!" Cael answered before Mitchell turned back around. He grimaced but followed them.
"Who is 'him', though?" Cael asked as the man led them to a door and opened it.
"Follow me."
Her question went unnoticed as the man walked down the stairs, which were dimly lit by flickering candles lined down the narrow walls. Cael squeaked a bit when she felt things crawling on the walls, which caused Mitchell to jump and prompt them to walk faster.
Finally, they were downstairs. The air was extremely dry and cold down here, and he looked around. Their eyes adjusted to the darkness, and as soon as he could look around, he knew what this was.
"A crypt!" Cael squealed happily. This was what she came here for.
"He's in there." The man grumbled, pointing towards a doorway that she'd have to crawl through to get anywhere.
Mitchell tried to convince her not to go in, but there was no way to do that. He even suggested he'd go first, in case there was was anything dangerous in there. Instead, he ended up waiting for her outside of it.
Cael crawled through the narrow passageway until she found that she could stand up again. It was pitch black, except for the faint light coming from behind her. She blindly felt around. A cold, bony hand was under hers. She tried not to scream. She didn't want to scare Mitchell. She grabbed a flashlight from her bag and turned it on. The light blinded her at first, but she didn't care. Around her were three extremely well preserved corpses. Normally, she wouldn't be scared, but these made her gasp. Everything about them was pointy. Pointed ears, long, pointed fingers, pointed chins.. It made her stomach churn. They were taller than any normal human could be, as well. She closed her eyes and turned around, getting out as fast as she could.
When she returned, Cael threw herself into Mitchell's arms. "We c-can leave now. Okay?" she said, which made the man turn and lead them out of the church.
Epilogue; 10 years later.
Cael returned to Ireland with her now-husband, Mitchell. They decided to revisit the old church, on a scheduled tour. Their tour guide was a much happier, younger man this time around.
Mitchell and Cael stuck around after the tour, and had a nice conversation with the tour guide.
"Wait; do you want to see him?" the tour guide asked, smiling. Cael's heart skipped a beat out of fear. They hadn't mentioned anything about their past experiences in this church, so the questions was really out of no where.
"Well.. sure." Mitchell said.
So, the tour guide led them to the crypt again.
"He's in there." The tour guide pointed to a normal sized door on the other side of the crypt.
"No.. he's in there." Cael argued, pointing towards the smaller door she had went through so many years ago.
"I'm sorry, miss.. We don't keep bodies in there." the tour guide replied.
"Yes you do, I saw them! Three of them, all pointy eared and.. huge." Cael sounded a tad frantic.
"We never have kept any bodies in there. As a matter of fact, that door hasn't even opened in fifty years." He answered, sounding genuinely confused.
Mitchell glared at the guide. "You're wrong. That door opened only ten years ago."
"No, trust me. The key to that door was buried with the crypt's old caretaker, who passed away about fifty years ago." The guide seemed to get a bit scared as well.
"But what about the tour guide that was here ten years ago.." Cael proceeded to describe the way he acted and looked.
The man shook his head.
"We.. We don't like to talk about him. I think you should leave."
{Thanks for reading. Yes, it had no point as far as I can tell. I'm not going through a very creative time right now.
