Hi bmat! I don't think I've gotten the chance to critique many of your photos, but I will say that they are nice and you've already quite established yourself as a fine photographer. I especially like these. When I saw them, my eyes went all wide. That dog is just so dang cute! Would you like to trade him for my vicious little hairball of an Australian terrier?

Anyway, your first one is good. I like the atmosphere created with the couches and the blankets, and the fact that you got the dog to stare right at the camera. One thing, though. He just seems a little too close, like the viewer is all cramped up in his face. Perhaps you could try zooming out a little bit more?

The second one is beyond words. Perfect lighting, and I quite like the low angles. That dog is such a model! Anyway, PM me if you need anything.

Hey Bmat! Before I start my review let me just say this.

Puppy!! *Awws and loves like the girl she is*

*cough* Anywho.

So the first photo is adorable, but under an artistic point of view, it's just okay. Not great, not horrible, just okay. I agree that if you were a little further away it would probably be a better shot.

The second one is absolutely perfect. The lighting is awesome, and the pose he has is wonderful. I love it, great job!

Just so you understand where I'm coming from...
The reason I got so close to his face in the first one is that so the viewer feels like he/she is snuggling up next to him. I know some people wouldn't want to be this close, but I do I do understand where both of ya'll are coming from and thank you very much for the input! It will go into consideration for the next puppy photoshoot!

Once again, I must say your skill is impressive.

The first one make me go 'aww.' I like the atmosphere but the black bar like thing in the background distracts me. Also; the sort of fuzzy right eye is a bit disturbing, but I'm forgiving you for that as eyes are extremely difficult, I'm sure.

Second: WOW! No complaints. Pure awesomosity.

Hey there bmat,

I enjoy your photography and the natural side of things. The first one shows the relaxation of a domestic dog in it's environment and I favour things like this over the proper arty type photography. Sometimes just capturing those cute minority of life's moments is art enough. I really love your first picture!

The second one is also good and in some senses, as the others mentioned, perfect. Unfortunately I'm going to have to disagree because as much as I think the angle, lighting and everything else is beautiful... I see no story behind this picture as I do in your first one. This might just be my opinion, but I'd chose the cute realism of your first one over the perfect surreal second photo anyday.
