Let's Burn ITV

The Televison networks in the UK are arguably the best television networks in the world. We have the best news broadcasts and the best schedules. To argue we have the best programs would be wrong, because America makes the best Dramas, we make the best comedies, Germany doesn't really do anything worthwhile television wise apart from talk about cars (seriously, unlike TopGear) and the French make the best sub titled thingys.
However, we have the best television networks because unlike the USA, we don't advertise products in our programs. That would make everything look cheesy and stupid. Apparently we also have a knack for scheduling things and the times we put things on is world-admired. Interesting, eh?

However, now ITV wants to destroy the beauty of our TV. They want to introduce in-program advertising. So not only do ITV show all the worst programs that make British television, but now they're going to start advertising products in the middle of something such as the X-Factor or Britains Got Talent. Even GMTV is going to start holding up massive poster of fizzy drinks and insisting the public blow their money on it. Well, actually this is an exaggeration, since it'll be subtle. Anyways, the point is ITV is already showing crap and now they want to make it cheesy crap.
I'm sorry but cheesy crap doesn't sound atall pleasant, edible or interesting.

But, we can be saved yet! ITV's editorial boffins have decided that if the British public start complaining, they'll instantly remove all in program advertising missions and go back to having the adbreaks every 15 minutes. WOOHOO. Let's all complain.

So why are they doing this in the first place?
Apparently it's because 2.6 billion pounds per annum that comes from advertising in breaks isn't enough for them to screen their pointless crap. Infact they're even insisting that if the in-program advertising only ends up generating 5 million pounds per annum that is going to make a difference.

ITV is clearly run by idiots and in comparison to what it used to broadcast a few years ago, I guess it would be politically correct to suggest they're slightly more educated than in their unfortunate past times, but all in all, still idiots.

Let's just have Midsomer Murders broadcasting 24/7, no?
No. Let's not because then we'd have a conspiracy about how much the people get paid to act out being killed. And it would also have to start running repeats which is simply unacceptable. Not that Five is any good anyway.

Hey Ben! Sorta disagree that Britain makes the best comedies, I'm partial to a good American sitcom myself. ;) I think you should get rid of the ellipse at the end of this because it makes you sound a little unsure of what you're saying, and I think that sentence is fine without it. When Jeremy Clarkson implies something in his column in The Sun, I doubt he bothers with ellipses. I like your use of rhetorical questions, and your writing style in general. Oh, and it's Midsomer Murders, I think, and if they make many more episodes of that program, there shouldn't be any characters left alive.
Matt.

Hey Ben, as always your writing is fun to read!
I throughly enjoyed this and I do like British humor as well as American humor and well...humor from all around the globe because they all bring something unique and different to the table so I wouldn't be able to pick just one.
Now, I'm not so familiar with ITV so I'm not really going to say anything about that.
There wasn't much grammar points that I thought I should hit so you're good there :D
Yay! another unhelpful review, haha.
Still love reading your writing though, keep it up!

Hey Ben! Sorry this is a little late.

I do always like the topics of your rants. :D

But, you know, there are a few things I need to point out!

I found myself not really following the comedy or the story here. You seem to rush through it quite quickly, leaving me slightly behind. Thing is, there are one of two things in that piece that would be really great if you focused in on them; instead you jump around a little. Other things I've read by you have a central theme, which is kept to by following a story or something. This ... doesn't really, which means it loses it's centre focal point.

Other than that, I liked it!
