The car comes to a s stop, and Beth jumps out.
Stan follows her a moment later.
Sure enough, the cat is lying motionless on the roadside.
He glares weakly at them and hisses.
"Here, cat. Nice kitty." Beth stoops down reaches a hand out.
"Here, cat-- ow! He scratched me."
"A fighter, then. Get the blanket from the car; I'll stay
with him." Stan doesn't take his eyes off the animal.
Minutes later, Beth returns with a hand-stitched quilt.
It's a present from a mutual friend.
"Good; give it to me." Deftly Stan bundles the cat up.
Its squalled protests make them both wince.
