This story isdedicated to those who have been through leukemia or a relative.
Kelly Farr lay in her bed, pale and feeling sick. Her chemo-therapy made her feel horrible. She tried to sit up and a doctor came to her side. "Kelly, please be still, you are very frail at the moment," He said in a solemn voice.
"But I feel, just fine..." she trailed off getting woozy.
"No you don't, I'm going to give you some anesthetic now. I Want you to rest," he reached for an I.V. bag and set theneedle into her arm. As it was set on her face,Penny began to pass out. In her dream she saw many things. Her mom, dad and her brother. Butterflies flew about her and whispered songs in her ears. Two birds chirped happily.
She awoke to a sudden shock. "Ah!" she screamed.
"Kelly! Oh Kelly, you're alive!" Nora, Kelly's mom, cried.
"What?" she slurred.
"Kelly, you're going to feel a slight prick okay?" a nurse said. She felt the prick in er arm as the nurse took a blood sample. "What happened?" she asked, woozy.
"Kelly just rest,"
"Please?" but she was too tired to ask more. Kelly's brother, Corbin, was waiting in the hall. He'd heard about her deteriorating condition. He'd gone through this already with Kelly's twin sister, Aura. She had leukemia as well and was in another ward. He stood up and headed toward the elevator. "Excuse me? Corbin?" A man said.
"Oh, yes?" he replied politely.
"We need to ask you a favour..." he trailed off.
"For who?"
"Kelly,"
"Oh, what is it?" Corbin asked cautiously. He was afraid of what the answer might be.
"We need to see if you have the same blood type as her."
Excruciating pain spread through Corbin's arm. He did have the same blood type as Kelly. They asked him if he was willing too give Kelly some of his bone marrow. She needed it because it was deteriorating away. "Ah! Ow!" Corbin yelled. He'd woken up just then and was looking over at Kelly. She looked at him with her sparkly blue eyes. "Corbin, you are free to leave," a nurse came in and said after three hours of silence between him and Kelly. He got up and went to the bathroom, leaving Kelly alone with the nurse. "What about me? When can I get up?" Penny asked loudly.
"I'm afraid not," the nurse replied.
"That's not fair!" Kelly was so angry. The nurse left her and she was all alone in her sterile room. In rage she ripped out her I.V. line and got up as quick as she could. She padded to the door, and slammed her fists on it. Dang lock code!, she thought. "Why don't you just kill me? Huh? I'm not getting any better from this!" she was delirious. "Kill me now!" slowly but surely blackness enveloped her.
One Year Later.
I felt the breeze pass through my hair, still short from recovery. I can't belive how much of a miracle God gave me. I had leukemia and then recovered. I can now run fast, eat bigger meals and I don't have to go through that god forsaken Chemo-therapy. Just like all the other cancer survivors, it wasn't an easy journey. But I got here and I am as happy as ever.
The End.
