I'm currently sweating over my latest story about superheroes. I'm trying to make the powers realistic, the main characters harmonious (Protagonists mostly) and of course, the plot interesting, fun and different.

Now this isn't a science fiction thing and it ain't magical either. It involves the government (I'm thinking like a dark, militaristic agency of America who may try to be making some new weapon [a person] and it ain't Captain America!)

My queries:
What superpowers should I choose that are not overpowered (I can always put limits). My current team of five are:

 (Main Protagonist) Jack Gareth
Super Strength (Max lift is Black Panther = Spiderman. Maybe somewhere around 800 lbs)
Enhanced Physical Attributes (Stamina, Speed, Invulnerability, Durability, Immunity to disease, sight and hearing. None of these ridiculously overpowered. You can hear him breathing hard after running 1500m in a minute sprinting.)

 Telepath Andrea Howard
(Broadcasting Thoughts, Empathy, Mild Offensive Capabilities and very, minor mind reading capabilities. Basically she'll know something reall bad is about to happen, just not what. She can't flipping retrieve your memories)

 Teleporter, Jason Howard
Teleportation, Heightened Reflexes but not super-senses. He's not the fighter and he wouldn't teleport anywhere he can't see. He can only teleport within five kilometers. Also, how would I write the effects for his powers?

 Weather manipulator. Eric Martin
He's not Storm. The winds bend to his will yes but he's only a child. He can muster up something nearing tornado but just not quite. If he wants to freeze you he should be in close contact with you and somehow, if the whole electricity thing works (Should it?), he has to punch you for the shock.

 Telekinesis. Kara Jordans
My ranged juggernaut. Think Starkiller from Star Wars: Force Unleashed and [i/] not [i/] Jean Grey or any marvel telekinetics. maybe Hellion. How much can she lift? Definitely no more than a truck and she's not charging with stamina.

 (Main Antagonist) He's a genius. A horrible genius. He'd never build a suit of powered armor. The only weapons he might carry with him are batarang like things. Otherwise, he dresses fashionably and looks like a male model. He wasn't popular at school but wasn't a geek. And he doesn't sit on a chair laughing away. He wants to make the world better for people like him. He wants to avenge a death. His name is Conner. He wears shades and has made his clothes (a shirt, black leather jacket and jeans) completely bullet and fire-proof. He's fit but not ripped.

I love Conner the most. All of the characters are 14 and they'd get the trash beaten out of them if any one of them went up against Conner (whose studies fighting styles and has those cool batarang things which he doesn't use much).

So anyways, that's the characters. And the Antagonists who think they're manipulating Conner are a kind of agency. Maybe even one dedicated to the downfall of America but who are working for the country.

A final point, this story will be really realistic. The only robot I may have will be at the very end, the scariest thing ever. If Jack is hit, he bleeds. All of their powers fluctuate. Jason won't explode when he teleports but wouldn't teleport into water. He can't teleport anyone but himself without great strain. Andrea hates her powers. If any of you have every been to superhero nation and read the articles, that's what I'm aiming for.

Well, if you could see what you could do that would be great. PM if you have anything for me, my reviewing gland is itchy but I'm a terrible searcher. Thanks in hopeful advance. TheHero... TheNewHero.

Hey Hero.

So what super powers to use huh? It depends on your characters I think. In most comic books about super heroes a person's personality is almost always in tune with their super powers.

This in all honesty sounds fine. As long as there are some limits. Also maybe by introducing some drawbacks might make it more realistic. Something as silly as his strength depleting as he uses it and is then forced to take a break could do it.

 Teleporter, Jason Howard
Teleportation, Heightened Reflexes but not super-senses. He's not the fighter and he wouldn't teleport anywhere he can't see. He can only teleport within five kilometers. Also, how would I write the effects for his powers?

I honestly find anywhere within five kilometers a bit crazy. If you want a more realistic sense then yes he should only be able to to teleport to spots he can see, literally. Think of Nightcrawler from X-men.

Everything here seems fine aside from the fact that he can summon a tornado! Tornadoes are too powerful, he could destroy entire cities with one, please if you are going to give him other powers that are lesser you can't have him have this pandora's box one.

This is fine, as long as a truck is the limit, and it requires a lot of effort to lift it.

Main Antagonist is fine.

Other powers you might want to use could consist of:

-Invisibility
-Impersonation
-Manipulations of certain materials.
-Agility

These are very low key powers that make a difference, but not a gigantic leap from what is entirely normal.

Hope this helped.

Thanks tons. I agree with every single thing said. By the way, you forgot the telepath :)

I forgot to include anywhere he could see so he doesn't go squat. It's a very technical story. I especially thank you for the strength thing. Useful.

Thanks!

I am deeply disturbed by your ability to meow.
