Chapter 4
Cynthia left the area of the fairies, she followed King Dalas, and nothing exciting seemed to happen, so all she could do was think about her beloved cat, Tony.
After a while of just walking in the plain field, the normal-shaped clouds, and the blue sky, King Dalas came to a halt.
“Look, we’ll never find my cape like this. We’ll have to split up,” he stated.
“No, I don’t know anything about this place!” She protested.
“Bye-bye now, take care of yourself!” He responded, racing down the field. Cynthia ran after him, but within minutes he was out of sight, and she was left alone panting in a field.
“That’s two cats I’ve lost now…” she whimpered.
She carried on walking, not quite knowing where she was. She closed her eyes for a moment, hoping this was all a dream. She opened them again, she certainly wasn’t in her bedroom, but the scene had changed again.
It was now this market-square type place; there were so many different stalls. ‘Magic Furnishing’, and ‘All Your Veggies’. Who came up with these names? None of them really were any good to Cynthia, apart from one in the very far corner.
‘Betty and Georges Sweetie Shop’. Now, Cynthia was desperately hungry, so she marched right over there. She was expecting an old married couple, who were still living in the olden times. But of course, nothing seemed to be what she had expected, so she was very anxious to find what the shop was going to be like.
As she got there, a lovely smell of strawberries filled the air. The stall it self was probably the smallest out of all of them, although the best decorated. At the front there were beautiful daisies pinned on to the board. They, for some reason, were unscented. The shelves were made out of silver and platinum, how much would that cost? There was a front big table sort of thing, and it was filled with so many different types of sweets. None of them had labels or names though.
All of a sudden, a woman came out, singing a nursery rhyme. She was wearing an orange-hooded cloak so you could barely see her face. She was wearing the type of dress a Victorian housekeeper would wear. However, it was filled with florescent colours of pink, yellow, green and many others.
She took of her cloak; her face was covered with make-up. White powder was all over it, and she had red under her eyes. Her eye-lashes were a noticeable light-blue and she wore bright red lipstick. Her hair was long and blonde, and she has a small flower tattoo on her forehead. She finally spoke
“Hello, welcome to Betty and George’s, I’m George and my husband Betty’s making more sweets. Go ahead pick one!” She screeched, very high-pitched. Cynthia wasn’t so interested in the sweets anymore.
“Don’t you mean you’re Betty and your husband is George?” Cynthia asked. The lady looked at her weirdly.
“Do you mean to say that there is something wrong with my name? Huh? You can just leave; I won’t have rudeness in my shop!” She responded, loudly. Cynthia walked away slowly.
“Wait!” A mans voice cried. Cynthia turned around, to see a man trying to get her back to the stall. Cynthia turned around and walked back. This man was weirder than the lady.
He too had white powder on his face, but he had heavy black under his eyes, a small brown goatee; a brown moustache that went from one side of his face to the other side. He also had bushy black eyebrows. His hair was dark brown, wavy, and went to his neck.
“Sorry, George can be a little angry when people criticize her name.” The man said
“Betty, how can you say that? This is why everyone we invite over leaves!” She cried, storming off. Cynthia began to get a little frightened, and she was about to walk away again.
“Don’t go! We haven’t had a customer in years. Our sweets don’t cost anything, please try one!” He shouted. Cynthia took the nearest sweet to her. She unwrapped it carefully and took a small little bite.
“Oh my, this is superb, can I take more?” She asked. Betty nodded as the lady came back.
“Betty, sorry I stormed off. Friends?” George cried.
“Of course!” Betty responded. Cynthia thought they were a couple, what a confusing world! She realised again why she was in this stupid world, Tony!
“Before I go,” Cynthia said, taking a lot of sweets from the self, “Have you seen a ginger cat walk by?”
Betty and George discussed quietly, than turned back to Cynthia. All they did was shake their heads, and waved goodbye.
Cynthia counted on her fingers al the names she needed to remember in case she meets these people again: Betty, George, King Dalas, Sylvester, Tupa, Gupa, Leo, Pushka, Yasmina and Gibby. She was never going to remember this!
