Teal’C
I sat on top of the building structure of a new house, tears falling down my cheeks as I watched the sun setting under the clouds. Its rays lit up the deserted construction site making me feel small and empty.
“Teal’C I hate you!” Anna’s voice screamed in my head “You only care for that like crap you call a brother!” Rowans face shone in my mind. I felt wind cackle around me in anger making my hair and clothes ruffle upwards at the velocity of the winds strength.
“Teal’C you only care for yourself; you never considered once how much this trip would hurt me”
I screamed into the sky, letting wind surge towards the building it began to rock dangerously. I fell onto its hard structure, my tears spreading over its solid frame. Anna had always had a strong affect on me, she was my older sister the one I looked up to. I had always wanted to have her confidence she was practically my idol (After Spongebob and a few others such as Finn from the Storm Hawks, my Dad and Albert Einstein if you thought about it he was actually cool. Not really!).
Turning slightly I looked into the dying sun, whispering softly into it.
“I never want to see you again, you are not my sister! Never Ever!”
Sobbing I turned around trying to clear my mind, this was all my fault. I bunched my fists and smacked at the building a soft ringing sounds echoed underneath the metal structure. The clouds rolled across the sky, birds flew through them in a V pattern their squawks rang through the quiet street. I take it back it is all Anna’s fault.
“Teal’C where are you going?” Sky asked as I ran away from the school, tears falling down my face. Rowan had attempted to follow me but Xavier had stopped him, his cries still echoed through my ears.
He had no family Anna didn’t seem to get that blaming it all on me, as if his parents’ dying was my fault. Crying out again I lashed out at my skirt pulling at it, I sunk back to the hard structure sobbing at my own stupidity.
This hadn’t been my fault though; Anna’s outburst had been her own doing! She had stepped on Himo by accident, once Sky had fallen over it in the parade area.
I remembered it clearly, the accident, the fight the incident which now officially made me Anna’s “ex sister”!
Rowan jumped into the air at a great height, the muscles in his legs throbbed as he landed on Anna in a flurry of screams bringing the two of them to the hard floor.
Anna was shrieking trying to shake the boy off, she pushed against him closing her eyes so she wouldn’t see his face. Rowan wretched back his arm and clawed at my sisters face indenting two clean cuts on her cheek, squealing Anna kicked him off rolling to her feet she held out her hand screaming for him to stop. Ignoring her he jumped forward, digging his nails into her arm he opened his mouth and sunk his teeth into her bare wrist. She screeched swatting at his head, I felt me knees begin to shake as I watched Anna wrench at Rowans hair in attempt to pull the enraged boy off of her arm.
“Help me!” Anna yelled, tears of hot stinging pain ran down her cheeks making her eyeliner run.
Sky watched the boy in horror, her eyes wide with confusion
“Help her” A voice screamed in my head, rushing forward I wrapped my hands around Rowan’s waist. Tugging at his body, I pulled him off of Anna. He began to slash at the air trying to get to her; I sunk my nails into his leg looking at Anna’s arm. Pieces of flesh had been ripped away; six small pools of bloods ran across her wrist. She looked down at her wrist grabbing at it in pain, her mouth wide with shock
“Why didn’t you help me?!” She screamed at me, people all around us had stopped to watch the commotion covering their wide mouths with their hands, most of the girls looked away from Rowan whose mouth was drenched with Anna’s blood.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t…” I mumbled in shock not able to register what had just happened.
“Look what he did to me” She gestured her hand, with teary eyes “This is all your fault for bringing this shit head here”
“I am not a shit head” Rowan screamed beginning to squirm violently in my hold “Sissy..!” he squealed as I didn’t release him.
“She is not your sister!” Anna screamed “She is my sister, my one and only sister you have no family!”
“Anna…” I began; Amber shot me a look of disgust. I looked away from her my eyes hit the crowd of people sweeping in an out to see the damage.
“No don’t tell me to shut up, he hurt me he is not your brother and you are not his sister! Don’t you understand your DNA does not through his veins?!”
“Sissy, she is my sissy not yours” Rowan screamed pointing at her accusingly
“Rowan please” I mumbled, he began to shake his head his sobs growing in to ear piercing cries.
“No Rowan I am your sister don’t listen to her”…
Turning I punched at the buildings frame, screaming I closed my eyes trying to keep the tears away. Twirling to my feet I shot into the air, wind pounded around me keeping me airborne, I stopped above the clouds; the rolling hills in one corner was surrounded by woods. Kicking myself forward I floated across the sky, looking everywhere to see where I might be heading. I didn’t really care as long it was away from that place I was happy, everything was so sad there. There wasn’t going to be any adventure there, I was going to live yet another boring year studying my butt off for some future which I might end up being some boring accountant in the end.
Sobbing, I let the wind hold me up fold out sending me falling through the clouds hurtling towards the ground I stopped just before I struck letting my body be boosted up a few metres by gusts of wind. I laughed as it licked at me making me shiver.
Wolf ears appeared out of my head, my wolf tail bustled out from behind me. I had always done this float around with just wolf tail and ears to accompany me when I was younger. Twirling through the sky, I laughed as I did a small ballet trick. My tail swishing with me, I began to wish Rowan was here but what could I possibly do. I couldn’t show him my power, I would be marked as a traitor most possibly or something or rather. A sparrow came down towards me, fluttering it wings it stared at me unbelievingly. Floating towards it I held out my hands smiling, sniffling slightly.
The bird darted backwards, watching at me I floated high up into the sky. Winking I spread my body making a star shape, floating up I began to soar through the air the bird following after me. Spinning onto my back I looked at it as it tried to mimic my spinning, giggling I pushed a slight breeze at it making it blink. Standing up straight, I began to dance in the air my tail making it look more spectacular. Skipping forward, I began to run towards the bigger cloud. Jumping through it, I felt it wisps’ lick at my face. Scratching at my face I laughed, arching my back I looked down at the ground. A girl was leading a kite through the air; her laughs were loud as she pounded through the area.
Soaring down towards her, I hid myself in the clouds as I watched her fling herself in her father’s arms. My shoulders sagged as I remembered my dad and the way I would always attack him when he least suspect it. Turning towards the sky I felt my eyes, begin to refill with tears. This always happened to me when I thought something good was going to happen it always worsened.
Flying away I ignored the pain in my side as I tried to calm myself, clouds flew under me blocking the sight of falling flowers from my view. Looking up ahead of me I tried to quicken my pace. Looking back, the bird had gone swaying off towards the top of the clouds his cries made me feel hollow and light. Flipping through the sky at a fast rate I froze my arms out stretched in a dramatic way.
Squeezing myself into a ball I began to rolls towards the Earth surface, spreading myself out quickly I flew forward, my tail and ears retracting back into my body. A graveyard lay in front of me; grave stones of white colour were line up neatly inside of a black grated gate. The sky above was darker, hollow old dead tree’s lay at the front leaning over the entrance. Petals covered over where the pavement was cut short. Landing a few metres away, hidden in the shadows of the tree I poked my head around to look at it. A black robed man had his head bowed, next to a certain grave placed away from the rest. A crumpled figure sat next to it.
“No one is coming” the black robed man said matter-of-factly sympathy coaxed his hollow words.
“I…” a teenage boy voice replied
“Maybe I should leave I am really busy, the church…”
Muffled words escaped the boy’s mouth as he kept his head bent
“Thank you” the religious man mumbled, turning on his booted heel he began to walk towards the gate. I watched as he walked off down the street, his head bent down chants faded the further away he left. I looked back at the grave, no one had come to whoever it was funeral…how rude. I looked down at my feet; a few golden daisies grew around the dead tree. Picking them, I pulled the blue ribbon from my hair. Tying it around the flowers I inspected them, it wasn’t pretty but wasn’t ugly either.
Looking out I began to try and think of a plan to announce myself without looking like a complete fool. Just as I was going to step out my eyes lingered towards shadows creeping around the other end of the graveyard, advancing on the boy who seemed absolutely clueless about anything. Rubbing the gravestone he had his head bent like a mourner, my brows furrowed ducking behind the tree I crept around to the other end trying to get a better look at the shadows. Haughty figures walked quickly yet not even a leave gave them away. Silent predators. Blinking I turned my head slightly looking for any sort of a weapon. On the floor next to my feet lay a badly mangled stick. Grabbing at it I clambered up the tree creeping as far as I dared down the top branch. Holding onto it with one hand the other hand held the poised stick I watched as the men began to advance on the boy. I saw something sharp shine in one of the man’s hands as their long dark green sleeves fell back. Gasping my eyes shot towards the boy, he still had no clue that anyone was coming. Holding the stick up, I flung it angrily towards them. Flying through the air, the sound of it whizzing made the men look up at it, screaming most of them jumped out of the road alerting the boy that they were there.
The stick skidded across the floor stopping in front of the boy’s feet, his vision lingered down towards the blade held in their hands. Taking in a deep breath I bit into my tongue, I was going to have to go down there. Fear curled around my heart making my breath haggard. I let the daisies fall from my grip, sweat dripping off of my brow.
“Here goes nothing” I told myself, jumping to my feet I ran down the branch my hands out stretched for balance even though I didn’t really need it. As I neared the end, I quickened my pace crouching I tried to focus energy towards my legs. Jumping off I was flung through the air towards the graveyard, striking the floor I rolled at the impact. Getting to my feet, I kept my fists clenched my face determined.
The men turned to look at me, their pale smooth faces expressionless. Pulling up their hands simultaneously their long sleeves feel back revealing sharp blades, blood stained on the end of the blade. I felt my hands begin to shake, ignoring them I closed my mouth running forward. I jumped into the air, kicking out with both legs I hit the floor dust picking up around me as the first man lost his footing crashing to the floor. Grabbing at the blade in his hand, I rushed forward spinning my foot around I struck out. Hands sealed around my foot, twisting me around I felt pain rush up my body.
I saw the boy; his fringe cast a shadow over his eyes his hand shook with anger. He ran forward. The tallest man swung his blade around at him, ducking the boy dropped to the floor in a cat like position, spinning his foot around he brang the feet out from under him sending the man falling back. Jumping onto him the boy grabbed at him head, the two of their eyes met, twisting a sickly cracking sound echoed through the graveyard. I looked in horror, as the man fell back his neck snapped his head twisted in an unnatural way. The boy rushed forward holding on to the man’s blade tightly. I felt more pain shoot up my leg, turning I saw my foot twisting one way my knee buckling in resistance. Twisting with my foot, I let wind keep me airborne rushing forward at him I kneed him in the face. The man let go of me, twisting himself back his teeth shone. Two fangs protruded out of them, blinking I turned to see all of them had sharp fangs dripping with blood; their eyes were red like pale ruby’s.
I felt my hands tighten around the blade; I had never killed anything that looked like a human. Maybe this was my day for adventure, my mouth turned into a thin line firmly pressed together. Twisting around I struck out with the blade, I felt something curl around my hand. Looking down I saw a vine tighten around my wrist squeezing at my circulation. In the corner of my eye I saw a grave stone begin to lift out of the ground, the point flipped towards me. I turned to stare at it, fighting against the vine the gravestone began to swing towards me. Screaming I let the blade drop from my caught hands, launching towards it with my other. It was skidded off in the other direction, I turned to see the man’s eyes glowing he was moving these materials; he was controlling them with his eyes. Turning towards the gravestone that hurtled towards me, I felt hand curl around my waist. I was thrown to the side someone leading me towards the hard solid ground, the gravestone whizzed past my hand crashing into the tree. It began to sway dangerously with a creaking sound it began to fall to the floor. I struck the ground; the indigo eyed boy separated himself from me standing in front of me he watched as the tree struck the floor sending dust flying. I covered my eyes as I felt the stinging of small sand particles whip into my skin.
I opened my eyes to see the tree slowly rising; the boy began to stumble backwards. The three remaining men’s eyes glowed, their face tweaked into a malicious smile. The tree turned towards us, its branches pointed in our direction. It began to skim through the air I could stop it by using wind but that would mean revealing my true form. Rushing forward I stood next to the boy, we had no chance of getting out if we jumped we would be marred by the branches, we were doomed. A scream hit the air, the tree lost control falling on to its left side it hit the ground, rolling off. I blinked in confusion; two men were left standing they looked weak. The one man on the left had fallen a stick penetrating through his heart.
“How the hell…” I muttered to myself, the boy jumped forward running towards the remaining men he seemed determined. The boy jumped, I saw the other man’s eyes widen in shock. Even when I had held a blade to one of their throats they still didn’t show a trace of fear. Striking at one of them, his fist collided with their face. The vampire stumbled back, black blood trickling from his wound. It fell to the ground staining the rubble underneath him. Spinning slightly, the boy struck with his foot at the other man, using the other he jumped into the air sending the two of them rolling to the floor. Raising his hand he smashed into his nose sending it cracking into his brain. The man’s eyes rolled back in his head, I blinked in horror. The other man began to move forward, screaming out I ran forward. Speed on my side I jumped into the colliding into the man I fell to the ground sharply cutting my elbow. The man’s nostrils flared as he smelled fresh blood, a smile covered his hate filled face showing his fangs.
“Blood” his husky voice said full of want. Grabbing at my shoulders he spun around so that he had me pinned to the ground, squealing I began to squirm under his hold. Pushing his head down to the alcove of my neck I felt his fangs rub against my skin his breath made the hairs on my hands stand on end.
“Get off of me!” I screamed
“Blood!” he said his eyes full of greed, opening his mouth he brang his fangs down towards me. I screamed out, closing my eyes I prepared myself for burning pain of something piercing my throat. I heard a muffle cry, my eyes flickered open to see the man fall on top of me a blade through his heart. I saw the boy standing behind him a shadow cast over his face, blinking the man rolled off of me revealing my body. Pain centered in my shoulder in where the man held me tightly.
I could hear the sound of a rickety old engine coming up towards us, the boy had also heard it. Turning his head he stared at where the sound was coming from. Rolling slowly to my feet, I stood up blinking into the yellow moon that hung in the star scattered night sky.
I could see the shining of head lights coming through the dead like trees on the other end of the graveyard. The boy burst into a fast run, hurtling towards the truck, looking at the dead body next to me, I cringed in disgust. Rushing after him, I felt my heart explode in being left alone here in the deserted graveyard. A blue truck turned around the corner, the back was filled with fresh hay. A dark skinned man was singing harmoniously tapping the front of the door with his long elegant fingers. I saw the boy run up towards the back, jumping he fell into the hay rolling to the bottom where he was left unseen. Following after I let wind charge me forward, jumping into the soft hay I struck the wooden decking underneath with my elbow. Biting my lip to stop myself from crying out, I let my body fall to the bottom. Poking my head out of the hay, I could see another faint glow lingering in the graveyard standing next to the fallen bodies. Blinking I scratched at my eyes, looking back up I saw the glow vanish. Turning slightly I saw the man in the front still singing, laughing slightly at his words which were sung in a different language.
Creeping to the back of the truck, I could feel the wind in my hair as the truck took a dangerous swerve.
“Where are we going?” I asked myself
“Get ready” I heard a voice behind me, jumping I saw the teenaged boy staring out into the woods.
“What for?” I followed his gaze into the trees, the boy did look hot really hot but I was never going to admit to it. ‘Think of cabbage good ol’Teal’C and you’ll be fine”
Blinking I began to chant cabbage over and over in my head. A glowing light began to grow out in front of us, I turned to see another car coming. Sinking lower into the hay I tried to hide myself from the oncoming vehicle. I had done this many times on my dad’s old truck back in New Zealand when I had been sneaky enough to follow him to work.
What was I doing on this truck anyway, where was I headed? I didn’t know anything about this place yet I was cruising on some random’s truck with some other random! The radio in the front of the truck buzzed into life as the man began to fiddle it, listening intently I heard something that sounded sort of like a banjo playing in tune to a pair of spoons hammering away on someone’s knee. I wanted to laugh, but that might give me away. I love country music, it was hilarious and had good tune to it. Spitting out some hay that I manage to swallow, I crept to the middle of the truck to inspect the woods. Would Anna be worrying about me? Doubt it! Rowan would be though; most probably he was scaling the woods to see where I had run off to.
Unless you can fly Rowan you have no chance of finding me! My stomach growled angrily, I hadn’t fed it in a few days only soft drink and any raw meat I could find from the lunch area. I turned to see the boy perched on the roof of the truck, his trench coat flapping in the wind. His indigo eyes reflected the moon’s light I could see my own reflection in them. Looking up into the moon, I began to yawn tiredly. I looked back down towards the road
“What is that?” the man in the front asked peering closer on to the road. Blinking confusion I stared more intently the headlight struck onto a small boy standing in the middle of the road.
“Rowan!” I screamed, jumping from the hay I pulled myself onto the roof. He was panting heavily, tears falling down his face. Blinking down at the driver I rushed forward, sliding down the window. Jumping into the air, the car began to swerve dangerously as the driver realized I was on the hood. Turning I stared at him, I saw the horror in his face. Crouching I launched myself into the air, landing on the hard road, I began to sprint towards Rowan. I could feel the headlight shining into me; Rowan was crouched down low a mask of fear covered his face. Blood covered him, cuts and bruises shone.
“Rowan no!” I screamed, skidding to a stop, I fell to my knees in horror. Rowan threw himself into my arms bunching my shirt into his fists he began to cry even louder.
“You left Sissy!” I could feel his blood seeping through my shirt. The truck came to a halting stop just missing me; I ignored it keeping my eyes closed tightly.
“I’m sorry” I mumbled my voice croaky, I could see the pain and difficulty it was for him to move. He had hurt himself to find me; I was an idiot for running away. Getting slowly to my feet, I saw the teenaged boy staring at me and Rowan confusion lit up his eyes. The man in the front, jumped out of the car running towards us. Rowan began to squirm, holding on to his body I looked out at the man.
“Who is this kid, who are you?” the man asked confused, he turned to stare at the boy on the roof. “Ace what did you do?” the man asked again, my eyes flickered to the ace around the boy’s neck.
“Stay away…from…Sissy” Rowan began, screaming out his eyes rolled back into his head. Shaking him, I felt my heart skip a beat
“Rowan” I tried “Rowan!” I screamed even louder my voice wripping at my throat.
Shaking him even harder, I felt tear begin to fall from my eyes. My knees buckled, falling I held tightly onto Rowan pain shooting up my legs.
“Rowan no Rowan please say something!” my voice hard with sobs, sliding my finger under his neck I felt for a pulse, I couldn’t find any. I had never been good at finding a pulse anyway. Placing my hand onto his chest I could feel short breaths, looking up teary eyed at the man.
“Please you have to help!” I screamed
The man came around towards me; looking at Ace I could see uncertainty in his eyes. Why! My tears began to fall on Rowans blood splattered face, this was my fault all my fault, Dunce bag!
“I’ll see what I can do, take him into the front seat” the man instructed, walking quickly to the other side of his truck he opened the door. The insides smelled distinctly like fuel and mechanic oils. Sitting down on the rough cut seats I held onto Rowan, pulling his small hand to his face. I felt my cries grow stronger; shaking my head I pressed my hand to his cold forehead.
“Keep him moving” I heard the man say as he jumped into the front seat, turning the ignition the engine jumped into life. Flooring the gas, I felt the car push me forward. Holding my feet out to stop me from falling I began to rock Rowan, whispering his name over and over.
“At my house, I might be able to help him” the man turned to look at me “If you wish. I can ask for the hospital?” I shook my head knowing that it might be late.
“Hold on Ace” the man yelled from the front seat, I blinked at him had he known that I was on there.
“Stay alive” I whispered, the car took another sharp turn, until it began to jump as it hit a rocky road. I looked up, green grass flourished around a small cottage like house. Trees surrounded it, a tyre was tied to a top branch of a fig tree.
The car stopped in front of the small cobblestone path leading up the cottage, I saw Ace jump down. Placing his hands behind his head he began to walk away from the cottage.
“Ignore him” the man muttered, motioning me to follow he hurried towards the cottage. Opening the door, I followed him in. A small fire cooked in the corner of a living room, two handmade sofa chair’s surrounded it. Paintings were placed upon the walls, giving the place some colour. Walking through a room the man came back with a box, dropping to his knees he opened it.
“Place him down here” the man patted the ground in front of him, walking towards him I did as he instructed.
“I need water get me some from the kitchen” nodding again I moved towards the rooms until I found a small kitchen, a table placed in the middle. Opening the pale blue cupboards I pulled out a red bucket. Turning the water on, I placed it underneath, the sound of water being filled scratched at my insides. Turning it back off, I rushed back towards Rowan, water sloshing on the ground. Dropping to my knees I set the water near the man’s leg.
“Use the rag to wash his face” he pointed to a small yellow rag in the box, picking it out I dunked it into the ice cold water. Ringing it out, I wiped at Rowan’s face the blood peeling back to reveal his pale cheeks.
“What’s wrong with him, did he lose a lot of blood” the man looked up at me, sighing he got to his legs walking around he peered out a window a shadow sat on the tyre swinging on it.
“Yeah he has”
“What now!” I cried
“There isn’t much I can do, he needs blood. If we can cover his wounds maybe he can recover otherwise I am going to have to use other blood.”
He looked up at me expectantly, hanging my head I nodded “I’ll do it then” I looked at Rowan’s face the heat of the fire heated my back.
“Get him washed and I’ll start wrapping”, nodding I pulled the rag over any part of his body that was bleeding.
“It doesn’t make sense, these cuts look to bad to be from a fight or falling” the man shook his head, his golden eyes sagging slightly.
“What do you mean?”
“Look at him, his body is wripped” the man had already wrapped his forehead and was now working on his arm.
I looked away not wanting to see the damage of Rowan’s body, more tears spilled down my cheeks.
“How do we know if his body needs my blood” I asked my hands shaking.
“I am going to need to work on him, so you might be here for a while”
I nodded looking at Rowan’s body “What do you have to do?” I asked
“His cuts look bad, I might have to sew them” I looked back horrified
“But…”
He cut in before I could finish my sentence “Do not be alarmed I am part doctor part scientist. I know what I am doing and I will only be sewing the cut on his thigh that is the one that might be our biggest problem.”
Nodding I stared down at Rowan’s face, my heart began to throb butterflies hitting against the walls of my stomach.
“Do you think he will…live” I stared up at him as I said this, the man looked down at Rowan then up at me “Maybe”. Grabbing onto Rowan’s hand I held onto it.
“I do need to be alone with him” the man said “You can use one of the bedrooms to sleep in if you wish or you can eat otherwise you need to be out of here so I can work”
“Can’t I stay?” I whined
“You will only be a nuisance” sighing I stood up stretching my hand, I nodded. Looking down at Rowan I walked off, towards the fridge. Opening the door I looked inside, the image of Rowan kneeling in the road made my shoulders slump. Pulling out something that looked like a raw chunk of beef, I poked my head around the corner to see the man working his back to me. Looking down at the beef, I licked my lips, I was so hungry I needed raw meat. Grabbing at a knife I stabbed into the packet easing out the clump of beef. Staring at it hungrily, I looked around to see if there were any viewer, nodding I grabbed at the meat hungrily stabbing my canine teeth into its bloody contents. Tearing at the meat, I swallowed quickly licking at the drying blood as if it were gravy. I looked down at my hands they were blood drenched; my shirt had a few stains on it too. My stomach wanted more food yet that would keep my appetite down for now. Grabbing at the plastic I threw it away into a bin next to the fridge. Wiping down the mess I made, I gobbled down water trying to flush the bloody taste from my teeth.
Pushing myself away from the table, I walked towards the rooms. Two pale white doors were locked shut the only one that was wide open was the one in the back of the hallway and that one looked most scary! Walking towards it, I looked into the dim room. A bed lay in the corner a white rose bed cover hid the mounds of sheets buried underneath it. A cupboard lay in the corner, walking towards it I opened it a fraction. It was empty except for a white dress in the corner. It puffed out slightly like a ballerina’s clothing before it had changed into this new age short tutu.
Blinking at the dress I pulled it from the hook, it looked to pretty for me. Black lace twirled up the snow white dress, two black roses were tied to the sleeves, ribbons falling down on either side. Placing it back in to the cupboard I was towards the end of the bed. Sitting down heavily I sighed, Rowan was dying, my sister hated me and I was in the middle of nowhere! Just great. Kicking out in frustration I felt my leg hit something underneath the covers of the bed, rolling off the bed I fell with a thud groaning at the pain in my knees.
I saw a dark covered book, a red ribbon holding it closed. Pulling it out I blinked at the erotic design of a flower on the front. Sliding my fingers over it my mouth dropped with awe, plucking at the scarlet ribbon I watched it as it flapped back. Pulling back the cover I saw letters inside, a picture fell from the top. Picking it up I inspected it. Ace, well someone who looked like him stood in the middle of a group a sword held casually in his gloved hand. A man with cloth wrapped around his head held tightly onto a crossbow, a sharp looking arrow in its hold. A lady with a gleaming smile held onto fan covering some of her face. A pair of identical twins looked forward blandly, both with the same bowl haircut holding tightly on to each others hands.
“Hey what are you doing?” A voice shouted behind me, jumping forward the book went sliding from my lap and onto the floor. Turning I saw Ace staring at me, his features easier to see. He had ash black winged hair, with a long fringe falling into indigo eyes that looked more cat like than human.
“I…ah…the man....I mean doctor…scientist told me that I could go to sleep up here if I wanted” I said nervously trying to push the book under the bed with as much wind I could muster without giving myself away.
“Since when did go to sleep become looking through other people’s stuff” he snapped plucking the picture out of my hands.
I began to laugh nervously scratching the back of my head I bit into my lip, Ace looked down at the picture biting into his tongue.
‘Cabbage cabbage cabbage cabbage cabbage cabbage cabbage!’
“Is that you in the photo?” I asked
He nodded slightly as if uncertain he should be telling me. I clapped my hands together jumping to my legs I grinned
“I always wanted to get those olden day pictures taken it would be so much FUN!” Jumping on to the bed I fell into a cross legged sitting position. I was trying get make myself happy so I would forget about Rowan and the operation he was going through downstairs.
Ignoring me, he kept staring at picture a small smile on his face.
“Where did you find this?” he asked
I pointed under the bed where I had managed to hide the book, getting on his knees he pulled out the book inspecting it.
“It’s still here after all this time” he plucked at the ribbon watching it fall; smiling at my handiwork I cocked my head to the side.
“What’s still here?” I blinked
He turned to look at me as if noticing for the first time that I was still in the room with him.
“Kraal” he shouted, ignoring my question his eyes blazing with anger “You lied to me! You said it had been destroyed”
