Written to the beautiful tale behind the song 'Where We Belong'
I panicked and screamed, but Patience trapped my mouth before the noise got too loud. It couldn't have been Mother, she was out until late tonight; we all knew that. I peered around the corner, and I saw it clearly. A tall figure with a girls hand in theirs. Rage.
‘Tidy it quick! It’s Rage and Chloe!’ I screamed, and Patience had the strangest look on his face. Huh, that’s what horror was. I picked up the towels and my breathing sped, fear and panic striking me through every vein. The soaked blood on the towels was splashing on the laminate, and I had to think quick. Then it hit me. Patience was sat on the leather sofa with his wrist in his hand, both of them crimson. Was a painful sight. I ran into the kitchen, putting some of the towels in the washing machine. Two of them were slung over my arm, and I opened the cutlery draw. At Christmas my mother always used the largest and sharpest knife in the draw to cut the turkey, and I held it in my hand. It glistened. Catching my eyes in the reflection, they were pitch black. Thirst. I ran back into the living room and threw the towels in a ball on the floor and curled up in a ball. I spread some of the blood on the knife and laid it on the sofa, tucking my head on my legs. I started to sob quietly, using the acting skills I had learnt at my drama school only a few weeks earlier. Rage and Chloe stepped into the room and Chloe gasped. Rage just stood there with a shocked expression on his face, when Chloe ran up to my side and hugged me tight.
‘It was an accident Clo! I didn’t mean to, I wanted some food and I turned around...I’m sorry!’ I hitched my throat on the last part, and she obviously had believed it. She picked up my face and told me it was all going to be okay, telling me to go play in the conservatory. Ah, how Rage’s girlfriend was gullible. As soon as I left the room, I heard the sound of fast pacing steps, and then Rage’s deep, shaking voice. It made me shake too. I hung in the door frame, just long enough to see Patience turn around and wink at me. So was that okay for a story, Lexy?” She smiled at me, her eyes coming back to earth. It kinda scared me when she told stories, looked like she was dead. Her eyes all black like that....
“Wait. Did you just call me Lexy?” I said, surprised. What did that mean? My name wasn’t Lexy, it was Lexus.
“Just a pet name, thats all. If you don’t like it, you don’t have to let me use it ever again. You can call me Tay if you want. All is out in the open!” She threw her arms up in the air on the last part, and it made me laugh. She seemed to be an eccentric person all round.
“No, I like it. I like it a lot. Tempest, can I ask you some questions?” I thought this was a good time to ask. Every time I asked her to tell me about her, she told me all the things I didn’t have on my mind. I mean, how was that possible, I thought about her so much. Was that a bad thing?
“Okay. I’ll answer all of them, like a cute game of truth or dare.” She smiled, and I got off her legs. I turned to face her, and she waited intently. Gosh, she was serious.
“What does your name mean?” I asked quickly, as this was one of the first question in my mind. I had heard a lot of emotions, rage, happiness, sadness, love, hate....but not tempest. What did it mean?
“It means violent or hostile. Apparently I was born with my fists clenched.” Huh, I never saw her as a violent person, except for that one time....I shuddered. We didn’t want to remember that time, right? We had only just got on the same page. But the next question I wanted to ask linked to that.
“You know the time when you asked me to drink your blood to make you feel better, why was that?” She sighed, and looked to the ground. I shouldn’t have brought that up. I muttered sorry under my breath then turned away. Before I had my back to her, she caught my arm. It made me feel warm inside, even though her skin was ice cold.
“I’ll answer it, but promise not to get scared, right?” She looked at me with her emerald eyes, and I nodded quickly before she could change her mind. “Well, I’m a vampire. Obviously. Angels blood contains something we can’t have, like rat poison to well, rats. It was slowly killing me Lexy.” She looked up at me, and her eyes were a molten gold. It stared at her for a long time, getting lost, just tumbling into her soul. But still everything was locked up, locked up tight. One day, I would find her key and all her secrets could be told.
“Okay....where are we going? I mean, I’ve been following you round like your caddy for the last three or four days and I don’t even know where I’m following you to.” I tried to think it through again, but the only thing I came up with was the puzzled look on my face. She laughed, and then her face turned back serious again. So it wasn’t just human women who had extreme mood swings. She took my hand, and her eyes glittered like a falling star. I was mystified.
“We’re different from everyone else, so why try and blend in? We’re going to start it off on our own Lexy, we are going to rule the world! Once we find a place to start there’s no stopping us. Those stupid weak humans will be kissing our feet!” She laughed and threw her hands up in the air with exhilaration, and I just stared back at her for a few seconds. Maybe she wasn’t the person I thought she was, but there was a strange emotion welling up inside me. Hope. Courage. Rage! Why did I listen to these stupid beings for so long? Me and Tempest could be free, the Final Night leading the world! I stood up and ripped my hand away from hers, a smile cracking across her face.
“Rebellion?” She smiled, a unique tint in her voice. It was like seduction, suggestion and violence mixed into one. Tempest.
