Alex

He hadn't expected to be so easily recognized but was flattered beyond belief. It mean't that someone knew his music, that they understood even just a small bit of him. It made things more comfortable. The other girl seemed friendly enough. Maxinea was her name? He kept his eyes detracted from both.

They approached another girl, the one named Sabrina or so he heard. He did not know why he had followed instead of going in search of Eph, but he had and he wouldn't regret that move. Biting his lip, he watched as the girls started talking to eachother, in which was blurred by the fact that his ipod was once again blasting rather heavily in his ears.

...you can run away, do your best to hide your face... Cartel. Their lyrics were usually somewhat interesting, though this song had not been his favourite. The male singer had a perfect voice, loud and strong. Far from the feeble, whiny voices that filled many songs of this generation.

"Alex?" Elaine asked suddenly, in which he had barely caught onto, pulling the skull candies off fluidly.

"Hmm?" he felt his cheeks colour in embarrassment as being caught for not paying attention.
Suppose for a moment that the heart has two heads, that the heart has been chained and dunked in a glass booth filled with river water. The heart is monologuing about hesitation and fulfillment while behind the red brocade the heart is drowning. - R.S

Maxinea

“Well, do you think she should stay?” Elaine said.

“I do know, sure, why not?” Alex said.

“Sabrina thinks the rest of the camp should take a vote, you know, since I did not really know you beforehand.” I said. Alex nodded.

“We should give her time here so the others can get to know her before we vote.” Alex said. I let out a little sigh.

They were being so nice. I was so grateful to all of them. They could have just left me for wolf food. Maybe they understood, maybe they knew what it was like to always be ahead, wanting to know more but still holding back. Maybe I could be of some use to them. I hoped so; it would be nice for once in my life to belong.
Even my parents, before they drowned, had known I was different. They never said that aloud, but simply implied it. A distance grew between us, and I never got to say goodbye.

*I have no idea why this one suddenly stopped. It had the potential to be so good*

Regis

Regis stopped fiddling with the spike on his bracelet and fixed his gaze on the others. They were dicussing something. He walked over to them, slowly, and tapped the main guy on the shoulder, "What is this voting about?"

The teen in question shot away in surprise and one of his earphones fell out. The others stared at Regis. Regis stared right back, before bowing to the one he had scared, "I apologise if I shocked you, but it would be of some assistance if you were to tell me what said voting is about."

Regis was getting the feeling that they were not completely enjoying his intrusion. He grinned at them, a tight grin that did not reach his eyes. Perhaps he had been wrong in thinking that the other prodigies would accept him. Regis sighed inwardly and waited for a response of some kind.

He, rather unintentionally, ran his thumb over the spike in his bracelet.

I watch the guy beside me run a finger over his spiked bracelet. Once, twice, three times. He seems thoughtful in his own little world. The others walk off, talking amongst themselves. He seems lonely, so I go sit beside him. He looks up at me.

"Your hair looks like something attacked it." He said. I was surprised by his bluntness, but kept the shock off my face.

"Oh, well sorry. Just almost drowned a few days ago and havent had access to a hairbrush." I said, shocked at my sudden courage.

"Ah, so your life is as troubled as ours, and mine. It seems you do belong here."

"Yeah, I guess I sort of do." He seemed nice enough. But there was something he was hiding I couldn't quite pick out.

"What were you so good at that it got you here?"

"Computers, and biology in general." As he said this his eyes seemed to search my face, like a scanner would run over a piece of paper. Like he was trying to read me.

"Yeah, well I can't do biology to save my life. I am more of the writing type."

"Ah," He said. Then looked down and started playing with his bracelet.

Regis

Regis' hope that he would find someone such as himself was quickly and rather pre-maturely squashed. He sighed inwardly and glanced up at the girl, her brown eyes met his, but he continued to stare. All the while running his thumb over the spike on his bracelet.

Soon her face grew red and she looked away. Regis raised a thin eyebrow and asked, "What's your name?"

She smiled softly, "Maxine. Everyone just calls me Maxi though."

Regis bowed, "I am Regis. I do not intend to tell you my nickname, nor my full name as that could one day harm me if I shared the information."

Maxi nodded slightly, "Doesn't Regis mean King in Latin?"

Regis stopped thumbing the spike and locked eyes with her, "It does. As your name is derived from Maximillian, also a Latin word. Were you aware your name, slightly deviated of course, meant the greatest? While just your nickname is . . ." he sighed softly, "Never mind."

He subconsciously began running his thumb back over the spike.

"Call me what you want, I do not care much. I do not care what my name means either. I find usually a meaning to a name is not at all like a person. But this is coming from the girl who was raised on a boat, so. I never met many people."

"And, what happened to your parents." I sighed. This was a topic I didn't want to talk about.

"Drowned."

"Ah," I almost asked him about his past. But I had a feeling that would be a bad idea. But I had no clue as to why.

"I was able to get my computer away from the water, and I have it in my bag. But it is all screwed up. I tried to e-mail my aunt..."

"Do you need me to take a look at it?" He asked.

"If you think you could help it..." I slowly took it out of my bag. I remember the picture of my family that was my desktop wallpaper. I had taken it, so I wasn't in the picture. He took the laptop and opened it slowly, there was a hint of a smile on his face.

Regis

Regis opened the laptop and watched as it flickered on, he nodded towards Maxine, "It's always a good thing when it turns on."

The desktop wallpaper loaded on and Regis stared at it momentarily. Suddenly his sight became blurry and he blinked. Maxine was staring at him in shock. Regis then realised he was crying. He took a deep shaky breath, wiped away the tears and set to work.

His psychologist had said the best way to get through these bouts was to rely on something else to distract him. He swallowed, his throat dry, and locked his eyes on the computer.

Vista. He rolled his eyes and tried to think of something else. There was so much wrong with Vista. Now, Windows 7 - that was a spectacular system. Regis let his fingers travel over the keyboard as he opened a command prompt box. He typed in several commands and watched the screen intently.

Maxine knew enough to keep quiet. Regis' eyes sparkled with joy as he typed in more prompts. Maxine watched in silence. After about two minutes silence, Regis entwined his fingers and then pushed them forward to crack them, he commented, "No water got into this. It was a virus. Eats any type of code and program you were trying to send over the net."

He stood and put the laptop onto her lap, "I found the source and deleted it. I also took the liberty of upgrading your Internet security, deleting several spy-ware, creating a user-name for a site that should help you in the future with similar problems, reprogrammed your media player - it shouldn't stop randomly now - and updated all your driver software."

Regis' work done he stared complacently at the ground and used the tip of his foot to softly kick a hole in the ground. Maxine just stared. He stared right back.

I admit, what he did was sheer talent. I told him so. He smile.

"Thank you." He gave a little nod and walked off into the woods. I just sat back down on a log and scrolled through my family photos. They all had water in them somehow. I hate water, it killed my parents. Too bad it was a part of me. I wish it wasn't. I didn't realize tears were streaming down my cheek, until a girls voice, Star's, asks me if I am okay. I solemly nodd. Then I go back to staring at the screen. Into a picture of a life that made sense.
