Not Good Enough

I feel like
I'm not good enough
to write.
Like everyone's better
than me.
'Cause when I read
theirs I
feel
what they mean.
How they act,
what they do,
when they cry,
I feel it.
But when I read
my work,
it's different.
As if I'm a
failure.
Shouldn't be doing
this. Shouldn't
be having my hopes
and my dreams.
'Cause I'm not good enough.
Maybe I'm
being too hard
on myself.
Or maybe it's
true.

Hey i think this is good. You've put a lot of emotions into it. As for not being good enough well thats just silly. A lot of the people on this sight are older than you. I think as long as you enjoy writing you should keep doing it.. I understand what the whole poem is about and can relate to it. :elephant:

You grow from the inside
Destroy everything through
Destroy from the inside
Erupt like volcano
You flow from the inside
You kill everything through
You kill from the inside"

Hey, CJ... welcome to YWS! :D

Oy, hopefully this isn't autobiographical! Poetry takes a bit to learn. My best advice is to read lots of poetry, figure out what you like, and learn from there. :) And practice, practice, practice, practice... you get the point. :)

Anyway, this poem isn't bad... after all, I feel bad for you! XD But at the same time, it seems like you're taking a rant and putting weird line breaks to make it look like a poem... and that's not what poetry is about... I think. XD Mind you, people have been arguing about what poetry should be since the first critic was born, but still! Poetry, if it were put into a human form, would be a human who couldn't stop dancing and singing, I am pretty sure. The rhythm is perfect and the words are so beautiful together that the poem couldn't help but sing.

So... how do you make poems dance?

Simple. What makes you want to burst out into song and dance?

Write about that. :)

I agree with Mighty Mistress Snoink. I would describe it as telling, not showing. You're giving us words and thoughts, not evoking emotions and images to summon thoughts of our own making. Yes, your poem is sweet and relateable but is it intuitive, cunning, darkly uplifting? Is it dancing off the page at its own rhythm and melody?
I am saying this, of course, to inspire you to write more, not to put down your pen. Never, ever give up. This may sound weird and tacky coming from an Internet frog who calls herself an empress but I mean this. Never stop because everyone is better than you or you're not good enough, you grit your teeth and look and the page and synthesize more music, generate more ideas, continue to put your pen to paper.
Sorry if I went a little out there. But I want you to keep writing and keep posting on yws, so awesome people like me and Snoink can help you out.

Guess what? I've just been thinking the same thing for days now, I guess since I joined this site. I actually packed up all my writings, evey thing I 've done since 5th grade and put it away. Okay so I don't know if I'm helping you but you know what I realized that this is probably the only thing I'm special at compared to the average people in my school and even if I never become a well known writer I wanna ensure that I try at my dreams. God's watching, He'll help us if we deserve it. BTW, I think this poem did make me FEEL. N ur still young, life'll work out. You are a good writer, not every one can make words rhyme and write down feelings so smoothly. Best of luck fellow writer:)
